Overnight in Jacksonville?

Someone told me that Jacksonville is a "dangerous" place to stay. Has anyone had prooblems staying here? Is it not a good idea to stay here because of traffic problems? How do you "go around" it? Sorry for all the ?'s - planning the drive down is stressing me out more than planning meals and time at the parks!

Im not sure about the Crime of Jacksonville but if you can drive about 30 minutes S on I-95 the Comfort Suites at the World Golf Village is one of the nicest Ive stayed at, very convenient to I-95 with a great pool. This is about 5 mile north of St Augustine. Also depending on time of day and day of week will depend on your route through or around Jax. If its normal rush hour traffic time I would suggest takig I 295 around, if not bulldoze your way right down I 95.
