Darling Husband and I enjoyed a fabulous lunch at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite today watching the snow fall. While later exploring the hotel, we sat by a huge fireplace and overheard a couple discussing some fabulous suites booked by their friends. The woman gushed over the the space of the 2 bedrooms, the kitchen, the laundry area ... even the countertops. I supposed she was talking about the suites here at the Ahwahnee -- but later really perked up when the woman said her friends had booked the place using their "Disney points." Turns out she was describing the Grand California Villas!

Ah, wished all she said were true. When her husband asked her about rates, she reiterated, "They booked it on their Disney Points. Something like a timeshare -- but you don't have to pay maintenance fees and you have it for life." Hmmm ...:sad2: Wish it were so!

The woman was convinced that if you spent enough money at Disney that they would give you these points for free. :rolleyes1

Cool! That sounds like a deal we all need to get into! :rotfl:

How's the Ahwahnee to stay at? We've camped, done the tents at Curry village and stayed at the Yosemite Lodge and the Wawona. Someday I'd love to do the holidays at the Ahwahnee. Or really anytime will do - it's such a neat hotel although I've never seen a room.

Staying at the Ahwahnee was wonderful!! We won 4 nights there from a charity event. The service was superb. The food was great and loved eating in the huge dinning room! The location is just beautiful. It was so relaxing sitting by that fireplace too. Even just sitting in the sun room looking out. We were there in the summer. I too would love to go during the holidays. Yosemite is our favorite National Park so far. Hopefully some day we will get back!

You know some people will never get it (DVC), and one of those people being MY HUSBAND!:rotfl:I can't tell you how many times I've explained the points charts, when you can book, when you get new points, when you can cancel. Anymore he just asks "When are we going and how long do I need to take off of work"....:rotfl2:

I'm afraid I might never know! I checked rates -- but was quickly scared off (they start at $479/night this year). We are staying at the Worldmark Bass Lake for something closer to $50/night using Bonus Time. ;)

Ouch - that much now?! I think I need to plan something sooner rather than later or it will be hitting $800-$1,000/night on the low end! :scared1:

:lmao: Much like free dining, if you spend $15,000 on one night in a 1BR villa, the next 40+ years are free :rotfl:

BWVDreaming, are our DHs twins? I just banked 28 points, and when I told DH (why did I bother telling him?), he just gave me this blank stare because he had no idea what I'd said.
I want those free points without maintenance fees!

Those prices scared me off, too. :scared1: DH and I are going this summer and staying at a Yosemite West condo.
