Overhead bins and Overflow?

Before I assume that, I'd want to see the sticker tag on the handle that identifies the bag. When I've gate checked (granted on small planes where the bag is returned at the gate), all I get is a quick pink tag with a number & a rip off tab. Nothing to identify what the final destination is.
It is absurd and unreasonable to expect the pax to go to baggage claim at the connection point and come back through security where the only reason was that the overhead bins were full, and most likely there isn't enough time to do all those steps. Ergo you should expect the airline to do that for you and even assume that they will.
Sadly that is due to an airline that doesn't enforce the rules they set. Most airlines will eyeball a carry on and if the bag looks like it is too big for the bins they will use a sizing stand to measure it.
The airline probably caught most of the oversized baggage but there has to be a happy medium in terms how meticulous they want to be about measuring the bags, and that outweighed the problem of six or so pax' gaming the system.

If your arry on bag is taken from you at boarding and checked due to bins being full on non-commuter flights, it is checked through to your Final destination, not your connecting airport adn you will be given a claim check to reflect this.

The exception is if you are flying on an airlien that lacks interline agreements for part of your trip such as Southwest, Je tblue, Spirit, Air Tran.

You should look at your baggage claim check and verify that the airport code shown is your final destination - you should do this even when checking bags at the curb or counter.

Easiest way to totally avoid this scenario all together - check everything excpet for a small bag capable of fitting under the seat in front of you. Then, you will never have a problem.
