Hey guys I have a weight question. I am about 280 I know a real fat butt. But that is life. What can of problems will have at the parks and and getting on the buses at the resorts. I am trying to lose weight but it is so HARD... Any help would be great.

Welcome to the DIS, I'm really glad you decided to join us. I know that there are several threads about this topic on the Theme Parks Attractions & Strategies board but with search down right now, I can't find any of them.

I'm pretty big myself but I've never had any trouble with rides or anything in the parks.

I'm taking the WISH challenge right now and trying to lose weight myself.

Hi Stacey and welcome to the DIS!

I am overweight and was a size 26 the last time I was at Disney which was in September. I have been about that size each time we have gone and there are only 3 things I can think of that I noticed.

1. The Seats in Muppet Vision 3D at MGM are very very small. You can still see the show and I definatly wouldn't avoid it but you do have to squeeze into it!

2. At Blizzard Beach sometimes it can be hard to get off the ski lift. You almost have to run a little. I finally learned that when I get off to take a little running jump and I would be fine.

3. At Typhoon Lagoon on the family raft ride when they first push you off my fat butt got stuck and I we had to push ourselves a little bit more. (This didn't happen at the ride at Blizzard Beach!)

As for anything else at the actual main parks I had no problem whatsoever! Feel free to email me at
disneysbelle@cox-internet.com if you have any specific questions. I would be glad to try and help you out.

Right now I'm in the process of loosing weight and can't wait until our December trip to see Disney from a much skinnier perspective but it was just fine from my "Big Butt" Perspective...LOL!!!

Stacey,

A wonderful lady named Deb Wills has a terrific Disney website called WDWIG (Deb's Unofficial Walt Disney World Information Guide) that has a whole section dedicated to this topic. It addresses ride seat sizes and lots of other topics you'll probably find helpful.

"Disney through the eyes of people who know one size does not fit all."

Stacey,
Welcome to the DIS!! I am a larger person also and had NO problems whatsoever!! Have a great time!!

nothing to add. just wanted to say welcome to the DIS!!:bounce:

The only problem I had was on Tower of Terror. The bar came down and I was seated in fine, but there was a thin mom and her 2 small sons. The bar wasn't able to come down on their thighs. They kept trying to push it down, and well, my body wouldn't let it come down. :( It was fine for me, but I left the ride feeling bad about myself. The other riders didn't say anything, but I know what they were thinking, as they exited the ride the boys were laughing about the ride. Not so much at me, but the ride they had because of me. I think honestly my biggest problem was that I was feeling bad about myself.:( But I did not find that I had any other problems. Getting on and off the busses, any of the other rides, or any seats in the restaurants.

If you are interested, come and join us over on the WISH board for support in your wt loss journey. It is hard, but it will be worth the effort. Welcome to the DIS!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Stacey we call ourselves Pooh sized around here. ;) As Beauty said the few challenges you may have at WDW can be managed.

Beauty I too was "butt stuck" on the raft at TL. LOL I tend to think it was because I was in the raft with my too little ones and there was not enough weight on their side. :p

I'm a Pooh sized 20 & I too get "butt stuck" on the TL raft ride. I think it happens to everyone. LOL

Only other thing I notice is the turnstiles in MK are smaller than all other parks. People were smaller back in the 1970's. But they just open the gate next to the turnstile if they have too.

Don't feel bad about your weight at WDW. You definitely won't be the largest person there --- that's for sure!

Have a GREAT time!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I actually don't even notice my weight at WDW. But when I go to a local amusement park.... THEN I notice my butt doesn't fit into certain rides.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents. I was a size 22 last summer when we went. Other than getting winded walking sometimes, no problems. I am gong back in a couple of weeks. I have lost some weight since then (size 18/16 now) and I am looking forward to not getting so winded. :p

I hope you have a great trip Stacey

Welcome to the DIS!

I am also Pooh sized and I did not have any problems at WDW. :) I have never felt that my weight prevented me from doing anything I wanted while there.
