Over 50 DVC owners

Ok, serially now, I bought in just now in joint ownership with my 23 year old daughter who will 'inherit' when I die without having to deal with the dread Disney transfer fees and probate!

If you decide in 8 years to sell...you probalby won't lose any money. So if it seems like a good deal now, for the shorterm, I 'd say go for it, even if you didn't have any heirs to leave it to. (and of course, you could always leave it to me )

My wife and I are around the fifty age and own at OKW - we do like DVC/HHI. We never get tired at WDW but are taking a yr off & visiting HHI.

We joined last yr both 50. started with 200pts added 130 got the APs now adding the 120 pts so thats 450 for the yr.all SSR. now need 50pts to make things even for the two grown kids. 250 each. But will add more for grandchildren. Have to leave them something.Just wish we had started buying sooner.But we really did it for ourselves. We love the area and just sitting around the quiet pool enjoying the sunshine.Just one trip to the beach at ocean city, md cost almost as much as 3 trips a year to WDW.So it is well worth it to us.

I bought in at age 57, my purchase was a gift from my late wife to our 5 Granddaughters, ages 21 months to 9yo.3 of which will be with me when I make my 9th trip to BCV this Saturday. The youngest one will be making her 4th trip, I think I may be spoiling them a little.
There's nothing better than taking your Grand Children, particularlly when they get a little irritable then Mom and Dad take over.

DH and I made our first DVC purchase -- 350 VWL points -- three years ago when I was 52 and he was 54. It was a 25th wedding anniversary present to ourselves. Yesterday we sent in the paperwork for 230 OKW points. I'm very frugal (some may say cheap ) in most areas of my life, but we both love Disney and DVC is our big "splurge." We plan to retire in about three years and look forward to many happy Disney days.

We bought while in our 40's, but it's at SSR, so by the time our contract expires, my head will be floating in liquid nitrogen! (and I don't live that far from the cryonics facility ). Go for it!

You are too funny ColoradoBelle1. You put a smile on my face after coming in from shoveling about 6 inches of wet heavy snow when they were predicting a very light dusting!

My parents were 71 and 72 when they joined in 2000. My mom and I wanted to join when DVC first opened but my dad and Husband were not ready. Finally we convinced both of them it was a good idea. My parents have enjoyed it ever since. We're going on our 3rd Disney cruise since with my parents since we all joined. They said it was the best thing they ever did and wished they had done it sooner. They feel you're never too old to do what you want! Enjoy!

I was 50 and DH was 52 when we bought. Our kids were grown then, and we still don't have grandchildren, but we certainly do get lots of use out of our membership, and we will be in our 90's when it expires!

You bet DH 59 and me 54... that was 5 yrs ago........after bringing 3 families to WL (hotel) for a wk. 2 yrs in a row.....DH says lets check out this DVC....we own at BWV and love it....

...............this is a really great threat. Thank you OP for asking the question. We (DW and I) were both very close to 50 when we became DVC members in 2001. We had been to WDW a few times over the years but when we found ourselves enjoying it more each time we decided to look int DVC. At that time, only HHI and VB were being sold by Disney and we had no idea there was a resale market. But, we just weren't ready to make the commitment. About a year and 1/2 later when BCV was being built we decided to go for it and bought 300 points. No regrets here, no way at all. We bought it for ourselves for sure but equally for our family and friends to enjoy. Some people seem to be able to keep track of how many times they've been I not able to do that but what I can tell you is that we now go 2-3 times a year rather than just one before we became members.

We recently purchased a RV (trailer) and when I retire in less than two years we hope to spend even more time at Disney. We plan on spending some time at BCV using our points and then switching over to the Wilderness Campground just so we can have more time at WDW.

WDW is such a great place to stay with so many things to do and see, or not, depending entirely on your mood of course.

DW (53) and I (52) just purchased DVC in late 2004. Looking forward to vacations with DD and her family and DS and his family (which has 1st DGS) for many years to come. We will be at Vero and SSR in early May for our first trip "home".

My DH and I bought into SSR in October 2003 when we were both 52 (and after about 25 visits to the World through the years). I kick myself for not buying in earlier - we stayed at BWV in 1997 and at that time, the promotion was something like subtracting what you paid in rent for your stay (up to $1500, I think) from the purchase price. I don't remember the price per point but it was pretty cheap! Live and learn! We were afraid of timeshares at that point, but thankfully, got over it! We have one son who bought into BWV in 2000. My plan is to leave our place to our darling grandson!

I was 46 and DH was 45 when we bought....we do have 3 children and a grandson (3 1/2) We initially looked in 1994 when OKW was the only game in town........wrongly decided at that time we couldn't afford it!!! Finally purchased in 2001 when our grandson was 3 months old! We currently like to visit with the whole family for a week once a year and then just DH and I for a 4 or 5 day visit sometime during the year. We look forward to many more visits .....checking out the new add on incentive right now....and our son who is mid 20's has plans to make an initial purchase within a year or so. We also
plan on spending maybe several weeks during the northern winter cold after retirement.

I just completed my purchase of a resale of VWL and as of this week was in the system. I booked made my booking, which is for my 50th birthday bash in WDW. So, I guess I'm 49 years and 8 months old. Does that count?

DH and I were just under 50 when we first bought 200 points at BCV. Then a year later added anothe 100! Our only regret is that we didn't buy 10 years earlier. At the time we thought that once our kids were grown that we wouldn't keep going.....WRONG! We love to escape to WDW and plan to be escaping to DVC for many years.

I was 50 and my DH was 53 when we purchased DVC. We were upset because we waited so long to purchase it. We don't think age has a thing to do with it. We didn't even think about our age. If you enjoy being there as often as we do, it's a very smart decision. We are usually there 2 to 3 times a year and we would go more if we could get the time off work.
