I have about 145 pounds to lose and it seems like a million pounds!
I would like to hear from others who feel this way or from those who have lost a lot of weight and can offer words of encouragement!

Thanks :goodvibes

Hi there! I am right there with you!

What is working for me right now is I have set up a smaller weight loss goal of #25. I will plan on loosing this every 3 months. by 1 year I will be 100# less! I started Tae Kwon Do in January and we have to test every 3 months. I got so excited at my first testing, that it created that spark I needed. I wrote a note to my master instructor that I plan on losing #25 by my next testing, which is in June.

I guess it boils down to this...
1. breaking up the amount of weight to loose into reasonable smaller goals.
2. TELLING someone your goal who will keep you accountable. ( I know my master instructor is going to kick my but if I don't do it! That is why I told him, because now it is not only a health related goal, but it is on my honor that I pledged that weight loss... so I need to keep my word and commitment)
3. come here for support!
4. KNOW THAT YOU ARE WORTH IT AND YOU DESERVE IT!!!!

Good luck

I decided last year to try to be a healthier weight by my 50th birthday. I had over a 100 lbs to lose....so far so good.

There are a couple of things that I have been focusing on....

1) This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. This is a toughie for me because I like to eat, especially rich foods. Now I really do think twice about what would be best for me to eat.

2) Don't beat yourself up if you don't make the food choices that you should on a particular day. Notice I don't say bad....my friend does that. She'll call me and say "I was bad today". There is no such thing as bad....it's all about making the choices that you need to make in order to reach your goals.

3) If you want something eat it, just not as much. Chances are if you don't, you will wind up eating everything and anything until you satisfy that craving. Friday I wanted a whopper with cheese and fries so I went to Checkers and Burger King for lunch. I ate the fries and about a third of the whopper then for dinner I had a weight watchers frozen entree. Eat what you want then follow it up with good choices.

4) Read labels and measure your food. Eventually you will be able to eat less on your own.

5) Pay attention to your body. Eat your food slowly and take small bites. When you feel full stop eating (another toughie for me)...throw the food away if you have to.

6) If you're hungry have some water instead and wait a half hour. Sometimes when you feel hungry it is actually your body saying it is thirsty (weird huh?)

7) Exercise Exercise Exercise!!! I know it's tough to carve the time out of your day to do it but it will definitely help. It will also help to tone your skin as you lose so that it doesn't get so saggy.

I hope these help. Realize that you can do this and it will take a long time. I've been at this for about 7 months now and have lost quite a bit of weight but I have a lot further to go. You didn't gain it overnight and you won't lose it overnight.

You're getting some great advice from the PP's. Just get in there and get started, and remember that ANY loss is a step in the right direction! As you can see from my ticker, I'm in the battle with you! You can do it!

There are several of us that are right where you are at and you have already received some great advice. What it ultimately comes down to is you just have to jump in and keep going, no matter what.
We didn't get this way overnight, and it will take a while for all the weight to come off. It's going to be frustrating sometimes and you will want to give up. I've "given up" too many times to count, but ultimately I realize that for my health and in order to be around for my kids in the future and to do all of the things I want to do, I have to try again.
So I pick myself back up and try to jump back in again.

I have to say, I think one of the biggest factors that contributes to me being successful is community support. I run a daycare from my home and don't get out much. The WISH board is where I get support from my "friends". I find that if I visit and post everyday, I am much more successful.

Find a thread to join - you could probably hop into the Biggest Loser challenge, there is a "Massive" thread for those of us with huge amounts of weight to lose, join the exercise or weight loss challenge...wherever you feel comfortable posting. Everyone I have "met" on this board has been so helpful and there are so many people here that are truly inspirational with their dedication to becoming healthier.

I look forward to seeing your around and chatting!:goodvibes
