ovarian cysts in teenagers

Thanks so much for all the info! It sounds like a lot of teens have had issues with cysts. DD has a follow-up appointment in two weeks with her regular doctor, and hopefully, everything will look okay by then. My worry now is that this could happen again.

I had virtually the exact same thing happen to me my Sophomore or Junior year of high school. The excrutiating pain, the trip to the ER (mine was at 3 in the morning), the Dad taking me (mine braved it out and stayed the whole time ). The did the scan on me and found a cyst about an inch in diameter on my right ovary. It had not ruptured yet, and they didn't think it was big enough to remove, so they sent me home with pain meds. It got better in a couple of days. I have never experienced anything like it since.

Your dad was braver than my husband! It's good to hear that you never had it happen again. I hope this will be the case with my daughter!

I remember when I was 16 at Bible Camp, a girl who was 13 had an ovarian cyst rupture. It was horrible!!! I had no idea what to do!! We had to call an ambulance to get her. One of my friends has had cysts since she was a teen as well. I don't think that they are common in teens though.
