Ovarian cancer - how long is surgery?

Please help if you can - the waiting is killing me! My mom is having a complete hysterctomy right now, she has ovarian cancer. She went in 3 hours and 15 minutes ago and is in another state. My dad is supposed to call when it's over and I can't reach him.

Anyone have any ideas on how long a surgery like this takes? I can't really find an anwer and when in doubt, turn to the Dis!

First of all, are you sure she went in at the time you expected her to? Surgeries are often delayed, even after the person is brought back from the waiting room.

Second, you probably won't be able to reach your dad in the hospital since cell phones are supposed to be turned off.

Third, even if she is out of surgery, your dad may be allowed into the recovery room with your mom, and possibly talking to the surgeon, so he won't be able to call you right away.

Fourth, I am sure surgery times vary widely depending on the person's body type and the amount of work required.

Try to relax (I am sure it's hard) and you will hear soon enough. Hope all goes well.

Thanks!!! Someone else just mentioned that about the surgery being delayed, I never even thought about not being able to use the cells around the surgery area or if he was in the recovery room with her. He probably left it in the car. My mom is 72 and overweight and the mass was huge, so I expected the surgery to be around 3 hours. I read that around 2 hrs was average and up to 400 minutes so I need to go for a walk (with my phone forwarded to my cell!)
