Outlandish discussion - Jamie Fraser & the Outlander Series!

I was thinking the same thing; that she should update the Companion since more books have come out. Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas.

I am reading Voyager. Jaime and Claire just got back together.

I just finished Outlander and stayed up until 1:30 a.m. to do so. Oh my goodness! It was absolutely one of my all-time favorite books!! I read it on my kindle and now I may consider buying a hard copy so that I can flip back through it while reading the second book, which I intend to buy today on kindle. LOL!! I am so excited to read the next one, even though I've read many reviews and know many of the spoilers.

Thank you so much to all of you -- your recommendations encouraged me to read this and now I have many more books in the series to read. I LOVE finding a new favorite author or a new series. :cloud9:

Ok so I'm 2/3 through Fiery Cross... and I'd like to discuss Bree and Roger so I'll put it in white as to not give any spoilers:

OMG What is with them?? I don't like their relationship at all. Bree's caring for him and tells him "I love you" but they just seem so distant from each other. But it's not just that he nearly died. They've seemed that way since Roger found her, and I place the blame on Bree. I'm wondering if it's to do with Bonnet and what happened. I just don't like the invisible wall between them - it makes me uncomfortable :rotfl:

BTW I love that Claire is over 50 and camping out with militia :lmao: She is one tough cookie!

:goodvibes I was so mad over Dragonfly in Amber. And I was of course thrilled with Voyager but still... all that time lost... makes me sad

OP, I love you! Because of this thread I went to the library this weekend and picked up Outlander, and it's AMAZING! I'm almost finished with it but I know won't be 'book depressed' because there are so many more to look forward to reading! :woohoo:

Ooh, I love the Outlander series, too! My MIL got me started on them about 10 years ago- got me the first 4 for Christmas.

I always pictured Sean Bean as Jamie. He's a British character actor best known for the following roles:
Sean Miller, Patriot Games
Ian Howe, National Treasure
Boromir, the Lord of the Rings trilogy

I used to picture Emma Thompson as Claire, but she is too old now. I could definitely see Kate Winslet in the role.

Thanks, I love you too!!

These books are soooooo addicting. I am almost done with ABOSAS and I can't wait for the new one in September.

Yeah, but it is not as bad when you know how it all turns out.

OMG!! It's dumb but I have to share this. I want to shout with Joy :rotfl: But I'll kindly explain so as not to give away spoilers:

My dear dear Ian has returned!!!!! Hahaha I'm at work and just read that chapter with only one more left in the book, which I'll finish presently, even though I'm at work. But I feel like laughing and screaming with happiness and just had to say something to someone.:love:
Of course Diana's mention that he returns in the new one coming out leads me to believe he will part from family again, which will likely make me cry... but for now... I'm just happy to "see" him again :goodvibes.

I can't even count how many times I've read the first three books in the series while waiting for each new installment! For some reason I always get the urge to read them in September:confused3. Am I alone in thinking that the series could have ended with A Breath of Snow and Ashes?
Sorry Just realised I\d posted a little bit of a spoiler so I edited my post and the rest is whited out.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't want to read about Jamie dying:sad2: I know that of course he will, but I don't want to be there when he does...he is invincible! (maybe because he has always reminded me of my husband) I will of course still read the next book, but I will be protesting the whole way through;)

Hi Sue,

Regarding your spoiler. Why do you think that about Jamie? Have you heard something about the new book coming out?

I would be really, really upset as well. I don't want that to be part of the story.

I don't know any spoilers, but Jamie isn't a young pup, after all. He is getting older, and he is going to have to die eventually. That's how we get our ghost, after all. :sad1: I would just assume it will be part of the storyline somehow. JMHO though!

I first read books 1-4 about 7+-years ago, heard The Fiery Cross wasn't that good, so I didn't read it. However, I just re-read books 1-4 because I want to read the last 2 books to see what happens next, NOW you tell me another is due this year!!!!! Ok, I've got some serious reading to start doing.
I love these books too, love Jamie & Claire, they are great.

If you haven't read book 1 yet...don't read...possible spoiler coming...not much....but still
I have a question for you, have any of you ever thought about the ghost Claire's husband sees before she crosses through the stones for the first time? When they are in their hotel he said he saw a man, a huge man with red hair (presumably Jamie) standing watching Claire, then he turned and walked away. It's something like that, and I think it was before she goes through for the first time, so I was wondering if that ever comes back to the story at all, or was that just foreshadowing? Anyone?

That is exactly what I was thinking. I think the ghost is just foreshadowing as mentioned by a pp. But I like how DG ended the last book with them getting the box and all the contents. Given the contents and the circumstances (trying not to give too much away here) it is obvious that they have died, and I didn't have the heartbreak and blubbery nose of having to read it. Of course nothing is ever that easy, is it :sad2:

Sue

I don't know how much to say, here, but please go back and read the timing for when they got the box. I'd spoil it if I went much farther with this.

Spoiler Alert! text in white

Do you mean that Bree and Roger get the box when they are back in the future, Jamie and Claire are obviously dead at that point. And given that the little carving from Jamie's sporran is in the box, to me anyway, shows that Jamie was dead when the box was given to the lawyer. I really thought that was the last book and was happy about the way it ended. Or did I miss something when I was reading, which is entirely possible. Hard to discuss at length while trying to not to spoil it for others. ;)

I was reading Voyager the other night and found tears rolling down my cheeks even though I know how things turn out. Text in white below.

I was just so angry with Jenny for the way she treated Claire when she came back to Lollybrach. She brought Laoghire into the family even though that witch tried to get Claire killed, and then Jenny wanted Claire to leave.

OMG Yes! I was really upset about that too. I would have thought they had developed a close enough relationship for Jenny to be happy about the return. I was suprised to say the least.

Ok... now I'm super anxious to get to the next book A Breath of Snow and Ashes... I tried not to read the spoilers. :goodvibes I'm kind of sad about it too. I'm afraid of how it's going to turn out... but since there's another book, how bad can it be? :confused3

OK, spoilers in white.

I am not convinced that Jamie or Claire will die in the next book. They are still only about early fifties (Jamie) and late fifties (Claire). If you think about the fortune teller from France, she said Jamie would die nine times and he had only "died" about 5 then. So even if you think the fire might be one (which I am not sure) then there is still plenty of living to do.

Any thoughts?
