Outer Banks...Good vaca idea for early April?

We are looking to head south for spring break 10'. Is it to early to enjoy the beaches at Outer Banks in early April? Is the water temp bearable? Any info/past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Not enjoyable to me - would suggest going farther South, like Florida south...

Thanks for the info...according to those stats...it isn't that warm there year round. Our beach vacations are usually during the sumer, and it is HOT. If I took my family there for spring break, at those temps, they wouldn't take their jackets off.

Yeah, I wish. We are cutting out our spring break Disney vacation to save $$. Looking for alternatives, with a manageable drive. The thought was to visit the aquarium and other spots in Baltimore (2 or 3 days) then head somewhere else for the remaining 6 days.

I'm thinking that a stay at the beach is not going to happen.

My wife wants to go to the Outer Banks for our Summer Vacation in 2010. Has anyone ever been?

I personally want to go back to the west and visit Portland Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

We've been to OBX over Memorial Day and even then the water was pretty cold. We stayed on the beach. You'd have to go much further south to get a true "beach" vacation in April.
