'Out of the ordinary' surprises for my future husband's first DLR trip.

Hi folks! I'm planning my honeymoon at Disneyland in December. It will be my third trip to DLR and my future husband's first trip. I also planned the wedding date so that we would be at Disneyland for my FH's birthday (focussing on the important things, right?!). I once celebrated my birthday in Disneyland Paris and it was amazing, and I want him to have an incredible experience as it's probably the last time we'll be able to visit for many years (we're from Australia).

So, my question is, do you know of any special surprises I can arrange for him? I'm planning to have breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen so they can sing Happy Birthday, then lunch at the Storyteller's Café (because the Charred Nebraskan Corn Chowder is to die for) and dinner at the Blue Bayou with the Fantasmic! dining package. At lunch, I'm going to arrange for a cake to be delivered. Is there anything else I can arrange, maybe by asking the right Cast Member on the day, or arranging it with the Dream Makers in advance? We'll be staying at the Desert Inn and Suites so I can't have the room decorated.

The ultimate date night would be the Chef's Counter at Napa Rose if he is at all a foodie...or not and just likes food!

Just remember...almost EVERYONE is there celebrating a special occasion... magic DOES happen but don't expect it.

Look at the guided tour options as well and see if there is one that would interest him.

When making any dining reservations let them know that you will be celebrating your honeymoon and your FH's birthday. And be sure to pick up buttons at City Hall.

Are you planing on doing all those restaurants in one day?? thats how it sort of reads.... if you are .. then thats a lot in one day.. I would spread them out over your trip. it extends the magic that way...
as mentioned above get your buttons from city hall... do a tour... there are Bride and groom MIckey ears that you can buy... get a T shirt printed up before you leave..... I always print my family shirts before we go... this year my son has Mickeys head and the words happy birthday all the way through his head...

We went for our honeymoon a year and a half ago. It was great! While it wasn't his birthday or his first trip, it was still full of magic!

We bought the Mickey and Minnie wedding ears, and got our "Just Married" buttons. We loved hearing all the congratulations. It was fun seeing other couples wearing the ears too--we found several couples that had been married the same day

Like a previous poster said, your post reads like you are going to be doing multiple restaurants in one day, which may get a bit hard on the tummy! (A meal from most any restaurant there leaves me full for 4-5+ hours!) We like to do 1 restaurant a day, and we spread our celebration out for the whole time we are there (including a "birthday week" instead of just a birthday!).

The Chef's Counter at Napa would be an awesome treat. We enjoyed doing the tour at Carthay Circle, and then eating there for a late lunch one day.

Thanks for all the help! Doing a tour sounds like a really great idea, and I'll definitely try the exotic dancer idea, too I'll try to convince him to wear bride and groom Mickey ears, but I'm not sure if he'll go for it. Having never been before, he just doesn't get it yet

We are planning on all three restaurants in one day. I tried to cut one out but couldn't! I'll be booking breakfast for as early as possible and for lunch I'll only be having a cup of the Chowder, so hopefully I won't explode by the end of the day! I don't want to miss his birthday breakfast because breakfast is kind of a thing for us. I chose the Blue Bayou for dinner because he loves Cajun food and we don't get much of it here in Australia! Plus, my memories of Fantasmic! are of huge crowds, so I really want the Fastpass and reserved seating that comes with the dinner. I also found out that we can order a special cake for him, but the Blue Bayou has dessert included, so I needed to go somewhere for lunch where they would deliver a cake. I make wedding and birthday cakes and always make him a special cake for his birthday but I won't be able to this year, so that was the next best thing. The meal choices are more about the experiences at the restaurants, rather than eating until I'm full.

I'll definitely keep the Chef's Counter in mind as well, I hadn't thought of that as an option! We're there for five days, so there's plenty of time

If your FH loves Cajun food, Ralph Brennan's would be a great choice (the restaurant, not the Express). The whole menu is Cajun, if I am not mistaken.

There was a couple in front of us in line at Small World wearing the bride and groom ears and buttons that said "Just Engaged". The cast member gave them a boat to themselves so they could have a "romantic" ride. It was really cute. If you can get him to play along, it might be worth the special attention to wear the ears/button.

They do have a private balcony dining experience at the Grand Californian. Food is brought up from Napa Rose. Private waiter, bottle of sparkling wine, fireworks viewing, etc....very special!

another cool "hidden" tip is to help pilot the Mark Twain riverboat. I did this in 2014. When you go to the riverboat docking area, ask the CM about riding with the Captain. You might have to wait for the next rotation but it is well worth it. You get escorted onto the ship before the other passengers, right up to the Captains Bridge. Then once the Captain has been give the go ahead by radio control, you pilot the boat around the river Its soooo much fun, and you get to do things like toot the horn. Just before the boat docks after the doing the river circuit, you sign the log book and get a certificate.

I'd definitely do the Chef's counter. You can also have a private dinner on the balcony adjacent to the elevators on the top floor of the grand. May want to look into that. If you want to see what the Chef's counter is all about, check out my October, 2014 trip report in sig.
