For my own curiosity

When you purchased your points when the resorts first opened what was the value per point?

Ex: Currently Disney is selling SSR for $85 point

Thanks

Angela

Every time I see that chart, I just CRINGE.

When we first came to WDW in 1991, we would have bought DVC on the spot. But we had no clue it even existed!!!!

Better late than never, I suppose :)

Another thing to keep in mind regarding the chart is that there have been discounts and incentives at various times over the life of DVC that aren't reflected. For example the free AP's for the decade of the 90's that many early buyer received (of which I was not one so fortunate) or even the times that the points have been discounted $10.00 per point. Only one of those shows in the chart, whether it be MB or a discount, they have happened and that has reduced the cost in many cases.

Price discounts like Magical Beginnings have been in effect since about 1996. These have usually been $10 per point, but have sometimes been as high as $15 per point (VB) and there were some $5 discounts for presales at BCV and SSR (these had no loss of first year's points as with MB).

The Admission Pass incentive was available into 1995 for OKW purchasers and for some early VB buyers (they had to use their VB points to stay at OKW to get the discount). The admission passes were good thru 1999 (even if points were borrowed from the 2000 Use Year for the reservation). Resale purchases of these original contracts also included the free admission program. The passes were not UPH, but were good for admission to MK, Epcot and Studios. AK was not included in the pass program and, in addition, there was no ability to access water parks, PI or DQ with the DVC passes. The passes were paid for by DVD and did not come from member dues.

Magical Beginnings was originally offered as a credit for those staying at a WDW resort at the time they took the DVC tour at BWV. They were credited up to $1500 on their purchase (and a corresponding number of points were debited from their first use year). This program evolved into the more familiar MB program later, where purchases were credited $10 per point and those points were lost from the first Use Year's allotment.
