Welcome everyone! For those of you that don't know me, my name is Stacy. I am a 41 year old wife, mother, and 2nd grade teacher. My husband, John, is an electrical engineering manager. I have two wonderful children: Ben who is 11 and in the 6th grade and Ellie, my 9 year old 4th grader. We are a Disney loving family and have owned DVC for a couple of years now.

Over a year ago my sister called and told me she was going to take her granddaughter on a Disney cruise during spring break. After a quick calendar check we realized that it was our spring break too. John and I discussed it briefly and quickly decided to book it too. Another of my sister's daughters and her husband were going to go as well but due to finances weren't able to in the end.

Details and cast of characters:
April 10-15th on the Disney Dream
Me-Stacy
John
Ben
Ellie
Melody (my big sis)
Alexandra-her 5 year old DGD

As I said, we booked this cruise in January of 2011 so it seemed like it would never get here. Then, when it finally got close, it seemed to come on like lightening!! I signed both our cabins up for our cruise's Fish Extender and Mel came down one weekend and we made our extenders. I made my gifts and some magnets for our door. It was a very busy time at school and one week before we were to leave my principal assigned us a project that was due during spring break. I worked double time to get finished as there was no way I could or WOULD be doing that on the cruise. By the time Easter got here, I was dead on my feet.:faint:

Our plan was to leave in the wee hours of the morning Monday and stay at a hotel right near the port. We'd leave the car parked at the hotel and they had a shuttle to and from the terminal. Mel and Alexandra were flying in to Orlando Monday and coming on Disney transportation to the port. We ended up renting a car to save wear and tear on our vehicle as we are driving to Vero and Disney in June and then again in December for the kids' surprise Christmas trip.

We picked up the rental van Easter morning and then had dinner with John's folks. We came home and packed the car, got showers, and prepared for the morning. I had scheduled a character call and almost didn't remember and let it ring but grabbed it just in time and let Ellie listen right before she went to sleep. I didn't think I'd be able to sleep because I was so excited but I did (probably because I was exhausted!!) and before I knew it the alarm was going off.
We quickly got up, got ready and headed out.
The time was

I don't have a picture of Ben. For one, he sits right behind me and it is hard to get a good one. Secondly, when I tried to contort myself and snap one, he covered his head so I gave up. Gotta love the tween years!!

The drive down was uneventful. A few rest stops, lunch, and the Florida welcome center for our free juice! A short (ha) 12 hours later we were at our hotel checking in!

I don't appear to have an outside hotel pic. It wasn't memorable anyways.
Next up: the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Off to a great start...can't wait to hear more.

Good for you for not taking your school work with you. :thumbsup2
Most people don't realize the many hours outside of class time that teachers spend grading papers, doing lesson plans, researching topics, or doing all of that extra paperwork we are so often given.

I am looking forward to reading about the cruise. :beach:

P.S. On Ben being a tween - the fun has just begun!

Helllloooo! Can I tag along? :)

I sure hope you enjoyed yourself on this cruise! You didn't give anything away in your intro so I'm wondering... :scratchin I'm so glad you didn't take that work with you! :headache: I can't believe how much older your kids are! I know time doesn't stand still, but Ben a 'tween :faint: and I think Ellie was in the 1st or 2nd grade when I read your last report! It just doesn't seem like that long ago! She looks so growny! Boy time flies!

I can't wait to hear all about your cruise. Hopefully since summer is right around the corner, you'll have time to give us all the details! :thumbsup2

Multi quote wasn't working for me before, but this time it took...weird. Anywhooo...

I know, right? I have learned to be a morning person due to necessity but still not in love with it. But on Disney days I am up and at em! Thanks for following along!

You are so right about what people think. I still have people that think I get off at 3:45 every day and have 3 months off every summer. I mean, really?? Join the real world...:confused3

As for Ben and the whole tween thing, so far it has been mild. He doesn't like pictures anymore and is resistant to wear shorts. He seems unimpressed with just about everything. I told him I'll deal with it everywhere but Disney, that he'll need to work on faking it. His reply was "I'll be at DISNEY mom, I love it and won't need to fake it." I sure hope at least that continues!

Joining in :)

Thanks so much for joining in!!

:goodvibescan not wait to hear all about it....

Welcome! I hope I don't disappoint!

Hi there my friend!! I am so glad to have you tagging along!! Hmmm, maybe I will leave you hanging about whether we enjoyed ourselves or not!! LOL! No, seriously, we had a wonderful time. It was very relaxing and what I needed, I think. I am super glad we went but came to realize a few things because of it. I'll talk about that more at the end!;)

The kids have grown up a lot, haven't they? The same as your DD and all the other kids that I follow reports on the DIS. It's just crazy!

I hope to get this finished before we leave for our summer trip. So, 51 days...I should be able to do it!

I'm joining in on all the fun!! Can't wait to hear more :)

Hi! Thanks for joining in!!

I'm joining in too..:)

Welcome! So glad to have you following along!

Yeah, another Castaway Crew trip report to read!!!

Hi! I am glad you found me!!!

So, we got to our hotel (Radisson) around 3 that afternoon. We checked in and unloaded the bags we were taking in. I had packed just one bag so we didn't have to lug all the luggage out.

On the drive down, I had started noticing signs for Ron Jon Surf Shop and it seemed to be close to where we were staying. After a quick check of Google Maps, we came to realize that Cocoa Beach is just a few miles from Port Canaveral. When John and I were seniors in high school, we took a class trip to Florida that included a stop there. We were both excited to have a look around and see some of the sights we had seen as youngsters including a stop in Ron Jon's.

After a quick freshening up, we headed out. We easily found Ron Jon's and grabbed a parking space. The beach was right there so we walked over--I can't be near the ocean and not have a look--I am a beach lover through and through.
The beach area was CROWDED! There was not an inch of available sand.

Then we headed to the shop. Boy, had it changed...seemed much bigger and fancier for sure!

After shopping (Ellie got a dolphin bracelet and Ben got sunglasses and a hat) we drove around a little more. I had intended on stopping at a drugstore to get some Allegra D (Ben got sick right before we left, of course) but he said he was feeling better and his nose was clearing up. I had some meds packed so we didn't stop and we headed back towards the hotel to find a place to eat. There was an Italian place right next door so we ate there. I was unimpressed but it served its purpose. We headed back to our room and got showers and just watched some TV. We were all exhausted and I knew we'd be up early the next morning.

Let me note, for anyone who in cruising in the future and stays at the Radisson-beware of the beds! They are Sleep Number and the one John and I had was like sleeping on a piece of plywood. I tried to get it to "deflate" or whatever but couldn't. John woke up and saw how miserable I was and he messed with it and made it a little better but it still wasn't comfortable. He said he was so tired he could've slept on anything but it was torture for me. The other one was a little better, but not much. Talk about a FIRM mattress!!
