Our thread for the Minnie!

Mel- that sounds good to me

I have officially signed up for the Minnie now. ::MinnieMo

Another transportation questions. The race starts at AK but ends at Epcot. We will be driving so where do we leave our car? They have got to be running busses for that. Either park we park at we will need to get to the other one somehow.

Welcome Keri and Kristi!!!

I am officially signed up now, too!!! YEA!!!! :teeth:

My little man will be 3 in May. We'll be at Disney for the Minnie (probably off-site because we will need to bring the dog... never stayed off-site before!!!) Then we will be back on Friday for DS's birthday and stay through the weekend for the triathlon - this time on-site without :dog: .

I vote for Earl of Sandwich - they have a pretty good outside eating area, and we love the food. Wolfgang Puck Ex is very good, but we have had to wait in long, slow lines there every time - maybe just a fluke, though. We've never been to Bongo's - that might be fun to try, too! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure about the transportation questions. I'm sure if we have to get ourselves to AK, they will bus us from the finish back to our cars. When we did the Disney 10K Race for Taste, we started at Wide World and finished at EPCOT and they just bussed us back to WW. I don't remember them providing transportation for the start, but I could be wrong.

Disneefun: I doubt we will get a packet for Minnie. For Race for the Taste we just got stuff at the expo and an instruction card as to where to be when. Don't stress over transportation, though. There should be enough of us there with cars that we can get everyone to the start line if busses aren't provided. WISHers always take care of each other!!! :goodvibes

Well, I need to get back to looking through race pictures. I'm taking a break after every 1000... :faint: I never found a castle pic for DH - now I'm trying to find an AK of him. See you all in a bit! :surfweb:

I am mailing in my registration today! How scary is that? :scared1:

I have a 2.5 year old son, Zachary. He ran the 100 meter dash at WDW earlier this month (don't get me started on how badly organized that was...). But he got his Chicken Little medal.

I am going to start researching airfares and hopefully find something somewhat cheap. I am also going to call Disney and book a room at a value so I have something definate for now. I really am hoping for a good AP rate - but probably will still stick with the value since this trip isn't exactly in the budget. (we were suppossed to be taking a "disney break" this year) ;)

I am really hoping Disney provides transportation to the race since our plan is to not rent a car. We normally do rent, but we were planning on just using DME to save money this time.

ETA: Just booked our airfare on a great Southwest DING that just came up - $136 RT - not too shabby!

I just signed up also. DH wants to run it too. Are males allowed in the field?

Anytime sounds great for a meet.

Mel - I'll wear my WISH shirt if we don't do new ones.

Sara...there's a space for gender on the Minnie registration. I doubt they could truly exclude men from the race.

Christa's photo on the other thread got me thinking...Kitchen Sink meet, anyone?

I was planning to wear my WISH shirt from the half, also. If everyone is interested in getting new shirts, we could start looking. Cam suggested a different color than lime since so many other people were wearing lime for the half/full. Anyone interested in new shirts?

The whole transportation question motivated Cam and me to rent a car so we'll have one for the weekend. We got an intermediate for only $77 for 3 days including taxes etc. so for that price it'll be worth it not to sweat if there is no Disney-provided transportation.

A kitchen sink meet does sound fun but you are right about how small B&C is - tough to get any sizeable group in there but there is some seating outside.

As for new shirts, I wouldn't mind having another one for Minnie - maybe in pink or red since those are Minnie-ish colors :) I loved the lime green ones but there were a surprising number of people wearing that color for the half and full. Anyone artisitic enough to come up with a good design? If not, then we can always wear our beloved green shirts instead.

Can't wait to see everyone in May!!

I'm down with getting new shirts. Red would be way cool!! Just let me know what you guys want to do and if my assistance is needed in any way.

I know no transporation was provided for the Race for the Taste 10K, so it might not be a bad idea to have a rental car.

I am hoping to stay at Pop but will wait for AP rates to decide.

Hello Everyone,

I hope that everyone is having a decent weekend. The weather here in DC has been beautiful and I was able to get out and run three miles today. I'm just getting back into the groove of running and it's tough :) Everyone just keep on keeping on May will be here before we all know it and we all will be grinning ear to ear as we run the Minnie!

Kim

I just realized I haven't posted here! I, too will be running the Minnie (thanks to these great Southwest Ding fares that are popping up!!) I'm working on my pace since the Minnie is even faster than the 1/2 and full (this morning was the first time I broke 13 minute/mile!!)

As for the transportation-- I actually called WDW sports after I registered, and he said there would be no special transportation to the start for the Minnie. That kind of confused me, because on the website, they encourage you to use the Magical Express. He said the only transportation will be the regular resort transportation, so I should try calling the resort!!?? There is no "regular" transportation at 6:30 in the morning, is there?? I'm kind of inclined to try calling again and re-asking, because I wonder if he was talking about transportation at the end-- I can't see them not providing transportation when they are telling people to use Magical Express...

Now, to choose a resort to stay at...

It really sounds like Disney isn't going to offer transportation to the race start. THIS STINKS! This is truly a budget trip for me & Mom - I am only going because we got a great DING airfare. Oy!

I guess I have to decide to rent a car or just get a cab that morning. I guess a cab is alot cheaper. :sad2: Actually, maybe a cab isn't so bad. We would have to park at AK. Then after finishing in Epcot, we'd have to bus back to AK, then drive to our resort. This way, we just bus back to our resort. Decisions, decisions!

Hi everyone,

That wouldn't be good if we didn't have transportation but I guess if the event is small then it makes sense. So does that mean that they won't have the cheering squads and characters around like I saw on pictures at the Half and Marathon event?

So does that mean Sara that you raced the 10k run? I was wondering if they will have time markers out throughout the course or not?

Today I went running outside with my two half marathoner friends and just about pretended to have an injury or jump in the river because I was having a hard time, which wouldn't have been good because it was only about 0 outside(I live in Canada).

Anyways there is several weeks to go. Good luck in everyones' training effort this week.

From what other have said about the 10k's & stuff they have done, they don't do any special race a.m. transportation. They will bus us from Epcot back to AK to our cars. Maybe you can hook up with some other DISers staying at the same resort & share a cab. I know most people were planning on not having a car.

Yeah, I am thinking the cab is the way to go. At Epcot, we'd have to be bussed anyway, might as well go directly back to the resort.

You guys are talking about a Kitchen sink meet?

I was sitting here thinking that post-race on Mother's day, that's exactly where I wanted to go LOL! So if you meet up during the weekend, I may stop by--but won't be indulging until after the race.

I start training today. Wahoo!!

Just found this thread....duh!

I'm signed up for Minnie...

No tranportation in the a.m.? Great, I, like many others here, squeezed this trip in 'cause of the DING fare. I can't rent a car, too. Guess the cabs will be busy that a.m., eh? How far is it from OKW to AK anyway?

MMMMM....Kitchen Sink..... :cloud9: this sounds like a good meeting place!

I did run the 10K and they did have the time markers out.

I guess with no transportation provided, I am torn as to whether I will stay off-site or onsite. I guess it depends on the AP rates, if any, that are released. Right now I am at Comfort Inn Universal Studios with breakfast and internet access for $47.50/nt. The hotel got great reviews on Tripadvisor. I also have a car reserved - rates are kind of steep right now. Then I'll be able to get Rapid Rewards credits with the hotel and car. Pop Century would have to go for about $55/night to get me to switch...

I will be staying somewhere (???) and I will have a car. I would be happy to pick up some DISers. Hopefully we will have enough people with cars at different resorts to get everyone to the start!

:cool1:

OK. This time I am really going to do it. I signed up for the half, but wound up realizing AFTER I sent my money that it was the weekend of my best friend's daughters Bat Mitzvah. NO WAY I would have missed that!

I went to the Y this AM and hit the treadmill. I am using the Hal Higdon training plan. Stamina probably won't be a problem... TIME will (I am SLOW AND OLD LOL!)

Hope to get togehter with some of you. (I am amazed at how organized you guys are, planes, hotels, cars booked. I am the last minute type.... I was thinking of HRP.... Whrilpool ROOMS! LOL!)

I'd like to propose the Earl of Sandwich for our Minnie meet on Sat afternoon, May 6. We were at Downtown tonight and there's plenty of outdoor seating...there were a couple of large cheerleading groups eating there tonight with plenty of room left over. We could try to meet early (4:30 or 5pm?) to maximize our chance of beating the crowds. The Earl is also very close to Wolfgang Puck's Express, so anyone that didnt' want to get food from the Earl could bop over to Wolfy's then bring their food over to join everyone else.

And of course, Ghirardelli's not too far away either

What do y'all think?
