Our Thanksgiving Trip-It was like herding cats! 7/16-FINAL THOUGHTS ARE DONE!!!!

I've always had a dream about staying at one of the monorail resorts, but the budget doesn't allow it right now. Plus with our kids ages, it's nice to have that extra space - a couple of hotel rooms for me is not nearly as relaxing. Maybe when they are older and stay up as late as we do, but right now it would be putting the kids to bed and then sitting in a dark, quiet hotel room until we were tired enough to go to sleep. :rolleyes1

Sara
4 year old's smilies for today:
:laundy: pirate: :cutie: :happytv: princess:

That's a very good reason! Reading Texasbelle's report has REALLY made me want to stay at Boardwalk! It's beautiful! We stay out late, stumble into the room and all crash together so that's not as big of a deal for us yet.

On to the trip report from January of 2006 (all you lucky readers who thought you were just getting a pre-trip, get a bonus old trip report! Lucky you!

So, on with the trip report from our "disney disaster" trip from Jan of 2006:
This trip consisted of 12 of us – 6 adults (me, husband, mom, step-dad, sister and brother-in-law) and 6 kids (my three & my sister's three). As I said earlier, my brother, his wife, and their two little ones didn’t make this trip. :sad2: We were sad they weren’t coming, but afterwards I think they were happy they missed this one!

The 2 weeks prior to the trip, my DBIL had a stomach thing; however, no one thought it was a virus because he had had it for 2 weeks and no one in his own house had gotten it. They all thought it was his own personal "GI demon" to deal with! They made the trip down from GA with no problems and met us at the villa (we flew down from VA and got in about an hour before them). The kids had a blast playing in their “Disney house” while my sister, mom, and I headed to the grocery store to stock up on all the necessities. We got back, made dinner, and got the kids in bed at a reasonable time since we had a date with Cinderella the next morning! :woohoo:

The next morning I woke up with so much excitement – breakfast in the castle! I got up, got ready, woke my DH up, and started to get the kids stuff out. I went out to the kitchen for a cup of coffee and met my sister who informed me that my niece (5 at the time) had gotten sick last night and was still throwing up. OH NOOOOO~

So after much talking about it, we sadly decided to leave her at the house with her Daddy and the 10 of us would go to the MK for breakfast at CRT. I felt so bad for her. Being sick is the pits, and then for it to be at Disney, and on our 1st day, and on our day to eat in the castle! Geez! Could it get any worse?

1.jpg

Here we are walking up Main St towards the castle (almost sprinting, because we were running late for our ADR due to our unplanned discussion this morning). That would be me with the giant tan backpack and yes, if you can’t tell from the clothes, it was chilly that morning. Brrrr!

11.jpg

It truly was a beautiful day – look at that sky! Too bad we really couldn’t appreciate it too much as we were running late and worried about the sick one at home! :sad2:

We got to the castle, checked in, told them we were 2 short (not a problem, by the way) and headed into the lobby for a pic with Cinderella. The Disney pic came out better than ours and we did buy it, but for some reason, I can’t find it – I guess that was money worth spent! :thumbsup2 I swear I will do better this time with my organization (thanks to DIS and TGM!)

My daughters did not want to be in the pic with my son and 2 nieces, so this is what we got:
13.jpg

My son looks a little deranged and the pic is blurry – hence the reason we bought the much better Disney version – kicking myself for not knowing where it is now! Believe me, it was better!

Then my girls decided they would take a picture if they were being held. Um, Ok. Off we go, Grandmommy, Mommy, and the girls – neither one of which are looking at the camera or at Cindy! WTH? Oh well, maybe this trip we will see Cindy and get a better pic. Dreams to Dream!

14.jpg

Off to eat!

We enjoyed our breakfast, but since this really was our 1st character meal in a loooonnnng time, we forgot about having things out and handy at ALL times. Consequently, It went kind of like this:
Where’s your autograph book?
Where’s the camera?
Here comes Sleeping Beauty!
Ok, eat a few bites.
Ok get your book!
Where’s the camera?
Here comes Belle!
We enjoyed it but felt a weeeee bit rushed. In hindsight, maybe they WERE rushing us, since we WERE late! Oh well.

22.jpg

First up... the Fairy Godmother!

25.jpg

Then Sleeping Beauty and Ms. White:
26.jpg

And Belle... she was definitely the most interactive with our bunch.

17.jpg

I love how in this one it looks like my DD is copping a feel with Belle! And in the next one, Belle was asking my son if he was more of a Prince or of a Beast? He didn’t answer, really, and I think she said something like, Oh, definitely “Beast” and all the kids cracked up. It doesn't take much to get them going at this age!

19.jpg

We left and headed out to the lobby, with a few of us stopping at the “ye Olde teeny tiny bathrooms” in the castle and on the way out, we got a few pics of the Knight:

15.jpg

28.jpg

(I think the clock was going off or something, hence the covering of the ears!)

After breakfast, my sister decided to go to the kennel to walk their dog (if you keep your animals in the kennel you have to go at least twice a day to walk them). Um, okay, kind of a pain, but oh well, they didn’t want to leave the dog at home. So off she went!

While she was gone she decided she would call the house and see how DN was. The rest of us went through Fantasyland, which was already pretty crowded by then! This was pre-DIS boards and pre-TGM, pretty much pre-everything! The most planning I had done was to get the reservation in the castle and Dive Quest at Epcot for the guys – and I felt pretty darn proud of myself. :snooty: We rode Dumbo, Snow White, and the Carousel, and since the lines for PP and Pooh were so long (and we were coming back on our last day, ;) we passed up anything with too long of a wait – big mistake that I will explain later.

33.jpg

34.jpg

(Sidenote about Snow White - My son (age 4) and niece (age 7) rode this together and came off saying it was "terrifying" and then immediately wanted to ride it again! Real terrifying, huh?)

We went on to Toontown and rode Barnstormer and walked through Mickey and Minnie’s houses before walking back to the castle to meet my sister.

36.jpg

Me at Minnie's!

40.jpg

Outside the toontown tents! I'm honestly not sure what we were doing - I don't think we were tired enough for a rest, but why, oh why would we be wasting time? Soooo not a clue!

I will continue in a moment, too many pics for this segment.

Sara

:groom: :coffee: :grouphug:

Ok, so where was I?

Oh yeah, I remember.

So, my sister had called to the house after walking the dog, and my niece was feeling better and wanted to come to the MK, so here they come, pushing her in the stroller, and she is…drum roll please…sound asleep! She stayed asleep most of the day – poor thing – but thankfully, never got sick again.

If you look closely in this next pic, you can see her in the background wrapped in a pink blanket on my sister’s lap!

mklunch.jpg

Pitiful way to spend your MK day! :sad1:

We went and got FPs for Thunder Mountain and while we were waiting we went to Tom Sawyer Island. Here are the kids waiting for their raft to Tom Sawyer Island.

157.jpg

Ok, so I have to mention my DD’s hair – that’s her on the end in yellow.
About 4 months before this trip, my DS (4 at the time) decided to give her a little haircut! :scared:

Has this happened to anyone else? :confused3

Keep in mind that the above picture is after 4 months worth of growing out – she was really GI Jane -meets- mullet when it happened! It was so sad. Happy to report that her hair is back to normal! But just for laughs, here is a picture right after Mr. Jr. Vidal Sassoon worked his magic! All sculped with kid's scissors no less!

haircut.jpg

Scary, isn't it? And yes, thoses are some bald spots, if you are wondering. It was downright pitiful and she wouldn't wear hats or anything!

Back to the trip report...
So after Tom Sawyer and Thunder Mtn, we headed over to ride Pirates. We came across a few characters on the way:

51.jpg

46.jpg

(I think technically this was taken on our way to Thunder, not Pirates, but I'm putting it here!)

Here is my DH and DD(1) waiting to go:
160.jpg

53.jpg

After Pirates, we headed to Magic Carpets. Here is my mom and 4 of the 6 kids:

161.jpg

So our 1st day consisted of riding Dumbo, Snow White, Barnstormer, Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, going to Tom Sawyer Island, and riding Pirates and Aladdin. I think the guys went at some point and rode Space with FP. Not a whole lot accomplished, but hey, we would be back! Or so we thought!

We headed back towards the castle right as Cinderellabration was wrapping up (we saw maybe 5-10 minutes of it)

162.jpg

55.jpg

The castle looked so pretty at dusk! :goodvibes

So as we headed back to Main St, my niece was just starting to wake up! She was hungry, so we cautiously let her have some ice cream and left for the day. Poor thing she pretty much missed the entire day and only got to see Main St before we had to leave! The Photopass guy got this pic of my son and hubby right before we left:

3.jpg

Up next, Day 2, Animal Kingdom, and a wardrobe change!

(Cliffhanger, cliffhanger - probably not a very good one, though. Kind of obvious!)

Sara

Great report. Love all the pictures. That is awful that your niece was sick and missed the castle breakfast. :sad2: Nothing worse than being sick on vacation.

Love the pics of your daughters "haircut"! :)

Just wanted to let you know I love your report. So happy that Kimmy brought us over!:)

I love the way your pictures tell the story. I can't wait to read and see more.

Thanks Michelle, Monica, Kimmy, and Roxanne! I do sooo love having readers. I get all giddy when I see that someone has left a reply. I'm such a dork! :yay:

I went yesterday and swiped as many Mickey Head paint samples from Home Depot as I could to make my countdown calendar. I'm such a rule follower, so you have no idea how paranoid I was. I had to keep telling myself that these are FREE samples, Sara. Geez! Stop worrying! I was having a kind of "fake" conversation with my almost 3 year old about all the pretty colors, and what color would her brother and sister like, yada, yada, yada, all the while trying to shove 30 + Mickey Heads in my purse at the same time! :worried:

Then when I had to find the bathroom for her to go potty and I took my purse out of the cart to go in, I thought I'd come out to see a security guard wanting to see what I had shoved in my purse! ::cop:

It didn't happen! Whew! :tiptoe:

I think I got enough to start my calendar this weekend! Yippee!

Anyway, thanks for reading and I will post Day 2 of our Jan 2006 "Disney Disaster" trip maybe later today.

Sara

They're going to hang your picture next to mine at the Home Depot paint center! You're not the only one who's nervous. (For no reason I'm sure. Those workers could probably care less how many we're taking!) My mom will walk right in and take a stack!

Oh, to be so bold! I can only imagine! I had to secretly take more than one of each color with it still looking like I had only taken one! They totally would have been on to me, I mean, who needs 5 samples of "Ariel's Afternoon Swim" to take home? My daughter helped out by just swiping ones and throwing them into the cart and then I could totally blame her for taking "too many"! :thumbsup2

"Sorry, officer. You'll need to take my daughter in for questioning as she is the real culprit in all this!" :rolleyes1

Like you said, I'm sure that 19 year old working the paint counter could have cared less what I took, but it was the glaring eyes of the 60 year old cashier that I was worried about. Why, oh why do they have to put the Disney samples right up front? Grrrr.

We Disney Dorks stick together! :dance3: That would be great on a T-shirt!

I'm the same way with Home Depot. I look at all the brochures pretending like I'm looking for the right color combinations! :)

So this has nothing to do with my old trip report or current pre-trip planning, but I just have to say that TODAY IS MY BABY's BIRTHDAY! :bday:

I can't believe it! She is 3 years old today (well technically not until 7:45 tonight). Why, oh why does time have to fly so fast? I'm feeling this way :cool1:  , but also this way :sad1: about it. She is my baby afterall! No more babies so I'm a little :lovestruc with her.

So humor me while I post a few pics of her over her sweet little life:

Anyways, thanks for looking. She amazes me everyday and the other evening when I was holding her she whispered to me "I'm so glad you're my Mommy" and I whispered back to her "Thanks for letting me be your Mommy" and she whispered back "You're welcome" Then she laid her teeny, tiny hand over top of mine and snuggled in with me.

More on the trip report later.

That is so sweet! Just melts my heart! Just remember this moment the next time she has a meltdown! :rotfl:

Love the pictures - especially the Christmas one. :)

Aw, you brought tears to my eyes! I'm right there with ya! They grow up so fast, but every age brings such a new sweetness!:cloud9:

Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the day with your "baby"!

Wonderful Disney pictures and I love the ones of your little princess. Happy Birthday to her!!!

I am really loving your trip report, patiently waiting for more popcorn::.

What a great mommy you are! I loved all the pics. Please wish her a happy Birthday for me

Thanks guys (or gals I should say). They really do grow up so fast so I try to keep that in mind when they have their little "not-so-cute" moments, too!

Thanks for indulging me while I got sentimental! :flower3:

Sara

How are you feeling? Can you drive yet? I've been thinking of you. Have you passed the breathing test?!

How are you feeling? Can you drive yet? I've been thinking of you. Have you passed the breathing test?!

DRIVE? Girl, I've been back at work since Monday! Like I said, family business! The longer I stayed away, the more my uncles would blame me for! :lmao: I did stay home on Tuesday since my MIL (who watches the kids at our house) had her own Dr's Appt that day.

So I worked Mon, Wed, and today. Went back to the Dr. for the post-op appt today and he wasn't real happy that I had started back to work so soon. But I told him sitting at a desk is really LESS work than chasing the 3 and 4 year olds around while their brother is at school. All stay at home moms should know that! He agreed!

The breathing test. Ah, yes, the breathing test. Well, I've always been a good test-taker so it's been bothering me that I couldn't do very well with that. I can happily proclaim that I finally made the thing get to the spot that I did in the pre-op room when the nurse first gave it to me. (Which still wasn't all the way to the top where they wanted, but hey, cut the girl some slack). So I have put it away for now. Sometimes I pass it and think "try it again, Sara", only to be disappointed at my failures!

Now if I could only stop the itching. The "stab wounds" as we put it (sounds like I was a victim of violent crime, though) are seriously uncomfortable.

I have plans on holding on to all my other internal organs from now on! Don't care to go through that again!

Thanks for checking!

For my little one's birthday tonight we went for pizza and ice cream and gave her a couple of presents (One from a friend, one from my MIL, and one from us) to open. Her Mickey Mouse birthday is Saturday at a pumpkin patch (see how I'm killing two birds with one stone there? Party and Pumpkin Patch?) I really didn't have anything for her for today as I was going to give her the present I got for her on Saturday, but couldn't let her actual b-day go by without her having SOMETHING from mommy and daddy so I looked up in my Disney stash of stuff and pulled out a cute Little Mermaid light-up necklace and a Little Mermaid Disney Studio t-shirt that was going to go in her little "Disney trip goody bag" for the trip. She was so cute - she loved it! Said I would always be able to see her with her "lighty" necklace on! Now I've got to get a couple of other things to go in her bag, or her brother and sister will have more than her! Can't have that, now can we?

Sara

I just realized I have to change my signature with my kids ages because my DD is no longer 2!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I will get to that tomorrow - on to sleep!
