Welcome to my first PTR. “Hi, my name is Vanessa, and I am a Disney addict. It has been a year since our last trip and our next trip is less than 50 days away.”
A little background on us:
Me…I am 33 years old and I am in my 11th year of teaching. I love what I do. Even though I love Disney through and through, I told myself (before we had the girls) that we would NOT be lugging babies or young children through Disney. We would wait until they “were at least 5 and truly appreciate it.” Fast forward to after we have the girls. They have been 3 times and this will be time number 4.
My DH is 34 and works in the insurance industry. He is not a Disney addict by birth. He has been transformed into one thanks to me. I know that there are many other Disney addicts whose spouse either hates Disney or thinks it is a one time deal. Thank goodness he loves it as much as I do.
We have twin daughters who are turning 6 next month. They love everything princess, Disney, etc. thanks to us. When we went in February 2011 the girls were in on our every move (except the BBB which we planned way in advance but surprised them with during the trip.)
Are you ready for the best part of this trip?
THEY HAVE NO IDEA WE ARE GOING.
It is going to be a huge surprise for them. Since we will be going in April we will be celebrating their 6th birthday (which is in March) and DH’s upcoming 35th birthday (which is in May).
Here are the details of this trip. Because I am a teacher, we have very limited times of the year we can go to Disney. I will NOT, I repeat, will NOT ever go in the summer.
(Although…you never know…see above about how I was “NEVER” lugging babies/toddlers through WDW.)
We live in CT and will leave home on Sunday, April 15 at around 5:00 p.m. We usually drive straight through. The girls have their 5th dance recitals that weekend and are in the Saturday night show and Sunday morning show. (DH will go to the first show and be home sleeping during the second show). After the show, I am going to surprise them with mani/pedis to let my husband sleep a little longer. When we get home, they will need to get right into the shower since they will have their hair/stage makeup on from the show. They will think they are getting ready for bed. While I am helping them in the bathroom, DH will be setting up a treasure hunt around our house. The little slips of paper will lead them to a new spot with a little gift with another note leading them to the next item. So far, I have the following clues in mind for the treasure hunt: 1.) New crocs with Disney jibbitz, 2.) Ariel bathing suits with matching towels, cover-ups, flip flops, and sunglasses, 3.) Disney activity books (an idea I got last year from fellow DISer 1308miles). I made them last year and they came out awesome. I will explain more about how I made them later, 4.) Disney autograph books and pens I preordered from the Disney Store, and finally 5.) The last clue will lead them to our minivan all packed and ready to go!!!!
I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. We often reminisce as a family about our February trip. They ask us almost daily when we can go back. Our answer is always the same: “Disney is expensive…we can’t go every year…blah blah blah.” They are sweet girls who always answer us back with, “I know Mommy, but wouldn’t it be great to go again?”
It is not unusual to hear any one of us randomly bust out in song at any time in our house.
At any given time you might hear: “Hoop de doo…Hoop de doooooo” or “Good morning, good morning, it’s great to stay up late…”
I am so worried about the ruining the surprise, we have only told our parents. I haven’t told any of my friends because most of them have children our girls’ age and I just don’t want to risk it slipping out by accident. Everyone else in our life will find out the night we leave when we post the video of the girls during the treasure hunt on facebook.
Stay tuned for more details on our upcoming trip.
