Our Seemingly Silly Semi-Illogical Four Day Whirlwind Trip

Here's the latest news on Tornado,

It's still not good news, but there is a glimmer of hope.

Tornado has a bit of movement at the back of his tongue, but still nothing at the front. They are force feeding him somehow by hand to make the food go down. The swelling in the lymph nodes is a little better. The Vet thinks the nerve is not severed since he has partial tongue movement. (I think there was some speculation at one point that a different nerve controlled the tip of his tounge). So, the hope is that if we can stablize his condition, reduce the lymph swelling and get food and water in him, it may strengthen him and buy him some time for the nerve to regenerate. Per the Vet nerves can and do regenerate, but I don't know if full recovery is possible ,and if so, how long it takes. I'm not sure anyone knows the answer to that. They are hoping to reach a point in a few days where he is stable and we can learn to manually feed him, so he can come home and try to recover here. To all who are praying for Tornado, a big thank you!!!!!! and please continue, as he is far from being out of danger.

Kay......I am so very sorry to hear about Tornado. I know what it's like to love an animal.........I have 2 cats, Mickey & Minnie. I know, first-hand, how scared and sad you must feel. I don't think it's silly to pray for a cat at all! I thought I was going to lose Mickey at one time and I prayed like crazy. And guess what.......he pulled through! God has given us these precious little creatures as gifts (after all, Hecreated them). I will be praying for Tornado throughout the day.

:wave2: dizneydonna: Thanks so much for your support and for the prayers. You are a true friend, though we may never meet.

So sorry to hear about your cat's injury. I will keep all of you in my prayers. :grouphug:

:wave2: MomBoyd: To another friend and advocate. Thanks for reading my report and sending a word of encouragement when I need it.

So sad for you Kay, it's not silly to ask people to pray for a cat or any living being human or otherwise. You love Tornado and he needs the prayers so you've got them...take care.

PS whilst asking for support could I ask that as many people as possible pray for the safe return of the little girl shown below and for her family..thank you all

:wave2: 2ScottishPrincesses: Thanks a million for the kind words and prayers, and I will pray for the little girl and her family. What horrible torment for her poor parents.

KAY!!! I'm BACK!!!! Thanks for keeping me entertained while at the world! I gotta say you have got the gift for gab!! Your TR had both DH and I in tears!!
 I am so sorry to hear about Tornado. Our dog is like a child to us and if anything ever happened to him... :sad2: . You are all in our prayers. Keep us posted on the progress.

Shelley

:wave2: DISNEYDUET: Welcome back. I am delighted to hear you read and enjoyed my story during your vacation. And I really appreciate your sympathy for what we are going through with Tornado. He is like a child to us. He sits up straight in a spare chair at the table during meals, doesn't even beg, just likes to watch us eat and be with us. During much of the day he sits on my desk in my home office. He follows us and goes on 1/4 mile walks, like a dog. He loves to play games and interact with us. He's such a good natured and loving cat. Lowell says, "he's like a little person," and that really sums it up.

Back to earlier posts. . .

Wow.

And I loved your last chapter!!!!

Very very funny.

As are you.

In a GOOD way.

This makes me want to chuck our rental car and take the ME. Now.

So temptation, Dude.

Cheers, Mel.

:wave2: Mel. When I got the email alert for a new post on my TR I took a peek at my thread, as always, and said, "Wow." Thanks for taking the time to read my novella. ;) And thanks for the kind comments. While I love getting replies from every reader, it is especially rewarding when someone else who writes well reads and enjoys my work. I was surprised and pleased to see LaLa post recently. Gee, now all I need is Zzub to round things out with a post, and iI would "retire" this report with a satisfied sigh. :)

I am a new name, just found the Dis a couple of weeks ago...I'm spending HOURS at a time reading TRs.....DH says he expects me to be an expert of sorts by the time we get there next year :rotfl:

:wave2: ericamcl: Good. I'm glad to hear I am not senile. Welcome new reader # 144. It's true that you will become a Disney expert if you read enough trip reports. Hopefully your DH won't mind if you turn into a bona fide "know-it-all."

Hi Kay, hope you and Lowell have a great Memorial Day Weekend too!

:wave2: SunKat. I appreciate the return wishes for a good holiday, and I wish it had turned out to be a good holiday weekend. I desperately hope Tornado is with us, and normal, next Memorial Day.

Again, thanks for your prayers for Tornado, everyone. It means so much to me.

SIS, how sad about Tornado!!

Prayers and pixie dust to both of you! Hope it turns out well!

Kay, it is not silly to pray for a cat. Tornado is included in our prayers. :grouphug: Poor kitty.

OH MY GOSH! Poor kitty! I hope he'll be OK!

OMG! Mel posted! YOU, Kay, have arrived!!!!!

You are amongst the elite. Well, you were before that. You are a DISboards Superstar and always will be!!!!!!

Poor kitty! You and Tornado are in my thoughts and a prayer to St. Francis of Assisi - the patron saint of pets. I hope your little guy pulls through!

Kay, I'm so sorry to hear about Tornado. Of course I'll say a prayer for him. We went through something like that with one of our cats a few years ago. I'm sure your vet is doing everything possible. Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. Here's wishing Tornado a speedy recovery.

Keep us posted.

Kay,

I'm keeping you, Lowell, & Tornado in my thoughts. I know what a terrible time this is for you - I've been in a similar situation with my dog.

I know you're probably not up to, or have the time right now, but when you do, I wanted to give you the post number in which you appeared in our trip - page 21, post 313 - of the Flower Power Trip (last link in my signature).

I wouldn't bother you with this, but I'm hoping it brings a smile you your face.

Thanks so much, everyone

I really appreciate the concern and kind words for our ordeal with Tornado. Here's an update. The neurologist our Vet consulted said that nerves can regenerate, but it could be 30 -60 days. If it doesn't happen by then, they would give up the hope. In the meantime, we need to get food into him and buy him time to heal.

They are letting us take him home for the weekend and try force feeding him ourselves. They also believe it's possible for him to learn to eat with partial use of his tongue, (the back part is functional, helping him swallow if food gets to the back of his mouth) but that wouldn't be easy. He'd have to tilt his head back and move the food around to get it back where he can swallow it. I don't know if he can figure that out and do it. If we have limited success over the weekend, they want to insert a feeding tube in his neck and we would have to insert liquid food via a syringe. This doesn't sound very pleasant, so we would like to avoid that option. So, please keep praying. I believe Tornado can come through this and regain feeling and use of his tongue.

Oh, Kay. I hope you can handle teaching Tornado how to eat this new way. I'm praying, too. (Now, where's the praying smiley?)

Oh, the poor Kitty, Kay!

I wish you the best of luck for his recovery!!!!!!!!!

Kay, Tornado is such a beautiful cat! I am praying that he makes a full recovery!:goodvibes

I'm only on page 6 but am loving your report. I almost emailed the part about the refillable mugs to some friends of mine! You riding Mission Space is too funny!

Oh Kay, I'm so sorry to hear about Tornado. She's so cute. I'll pray that she does ok, and I'm sure being home with your tender loving care will be the best thing for her. Take care. Kathy

That is good news to hear they are letting him come home for the weekend. Drop us an update if you get a chance!

Kay, I just read the horrible news about your beautiful Tornado. I'll be praying for a full recovery!

OUR PRAYERS ARE BEING ANSWERED.

We picked up Tornado yesterday at 4:00 "for the weekend," complete with anti-biotics, mothers milk, and canned food to be watered down so that it could be injected into his mouth with a syringe. The attendant who brought him out said he was showing increased tongue movement. HURRAY! A day or two before, the Vet had not noted any change.

The attendant apologized that he had small furless marks on his face, apparently from trying to chew and bang his way through the cage door. She also said that he was "very messy." Every day he tore the papers in the bottom of his cage to bits. I reminded her that his name is "Tornado" for good reason! Naturally his cage was daily torn to shreds. ;)

As soon as we got home and went out to the kitchen he went to his bowl of IAMS dry food and started eating it! We weren't sure at first that it was really going down, but it appeared to be. Lowell and I had breaded chicken breasts as part of our dinner, and since Tornado was standing by the table looking interested we decided to see if he could eat any of that. We cut up some very small chunks and put them on the floor. He managed to get them down! Next, I chopped some turkey cold cuts. He ate the better part of two big slices.   We could see his tongue moving. He can't make it extend out of his mouth more than a tiny bit, but the main thing is that the tip is now able to curl and his whole tongue can flex and move around. We have every reason to believe this amazing progress will continue with each day. The Vet will be amazed when I phone her Monday morning.

THANK YOU all so much for praying with us for "our little friend."

I will be working on the next and probably final TR segment a bit this weekend. I'm not sure how far I'll get. I have a lot to do today and Lowell and I are going to the Buffalo area DIS Meet at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls this afternoon at 5:00 PM. :yay: :yay: :yay:

Have a great weekend, everyone. :wave2:

Kay.....thanks for the update on precious Tornado. What a beautiful little baby! I'm still praying for her; for some reason she'll pop into my mind at different times throughout my day and I'll say a prayer for her. I'm happy to hear there are signs of improvement. We must give great thanks for that as we continue to pray. Please continue to keep us posted as you get the opportunity. :goodvibes

Sis, what wonderful news about Tornado, YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you get a chance to write this weekend.

Have fun at your meet today!

I just read about your cute kitty and I'm so glad he's doing better! His picture brought tears to my eyes because I had a cat that looked just like him when I was little. I LOVED your trip report you are so funny!
