Our Seemingly Silly Semi-Illogical Four Day Whirlwind Trip

Okay, Back again! Time to get caught up with "Shout-outs."

Yay! I was first to respond to the segment dedicated to me! I used the age old trick others have used - I posted a fake post, went and read the segment, then edited.
First.
I LOVE the caveman commercials. Especially the roast duck with mango salsa. I even love his slight lisp. And his friend who lost his appetite. It made me laugh out loud. Which normally would be ok, except right now I'm being babysat by my brother. Who doesn't know about my DIS addiction. So I told him it's a board where disney freaks sit and talk.
Thank you for the glimpse of the DIS through time. It was enlightening.
I love el rio de tempo. I'm kind of nervous to see what they do to it. The only part that needed changing was the beach scene. Those people came straight off Magnum PI.
Here's my bit of Mexican trivia: My ex husband's grandfather helped build the pyramid.
Kinda weird, eh?
I liked my recent trip to the real mexico - but it was only for one day and in a relatively less commercialized port (Costa Maya).

Great episode. Especially the part about me!!!!

:wave2: celerystalker. I am so glad you enjoyed your episode. And thanks for all the fun comments. I like the GEICO cavemen commercials, too. All of them. I am a commercial critic in general, and enjoy series commercials. Some have a good idea but bad execution. Some have a poor idea, but the execution is so good that it “works.” The cavmen series strikes me as one of the second type: an odd concept to use for an insurance ad, but it was done so well that it works beautifully. Like you, I am curious about the new El Rio del Tiempo, or whatever it turns out to be called when it’s remodeled. My next episode will cover that ride prior to renovation, and speculate on one element which may remain in the new version, only with a twist.

What a great idea, Kay, dedicating a post to the 100th reader.

I really love SpaceShip Earth too. It's our first ride at my favorite park. I like everything about it, especially the air conditioning on a HOT day!

I've never thought about the fact that we move backwards to the future. I bet there's some DEEP meaning. Some symbolism :confused3.

I didn't know they were re-doing the El Rio deTiempo ride. Huh. I hope it's better. It's a smidge out-dated currently.

Ya did a great job again Kay!!!! I love your style!

I love your spirit and spunk!

:wave2: UtahMama. Thanks. I thought the 100th Reader dedication would be fun. I really appreciate everyone who reads and takes time to tell me so. And I only need 162 more readers to catch up to Zzub. Not that I’m counting or anything. ;)

As for Spaceship Earth, if you work out the symbolism of going backward into the future and forward into the past, let me know, ‘cause I’m still befuddled about that! :confused3

Liquid papyrus :lmao:

Thanks for posting again before taking off on your vacation. I'm rooting for the Lucky Fourteen weather phenomenon!!!

:wave2: Minnie_Moo: Thanks. That Liquid Papyrus thought came out of nowhere and surprised even me. Thanks for the vacation well wishes. The weather forecast is starting to shape up favorably! I’ll post El Rio del Tiempo before I leave.

Dag Nabbitt!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried the multi-quote button. It even lit up nicely in red, like it was actually working. I had high hopes.

But NADA, nothing!

I tried to quote a lot, about the bus ride and Spaceship Earth. I pride myself in being an Excel expert, but apparently, a DIS qouter expert I am NOT (by a long shot!) Apparently one program talent does not translate to another. And I read about 100 posts about how to multi-quote!

Loved, loved this installment, Kay, Bravo!!!!!

:wave2: Backstage_Gal. I sent you my multi-quoting tutorial so you can give it another try on my next segment. I’m glad you liked this episode. I had fun with it. The “what would DIS members be doing during each era” angle was another one of those “came out of nowhere ideas” that I couldn’t resist.

And they STILL haven't called me back (for Cirque de Soleil)... :confused3 I mean, I thought I looked pretty good as I balanced on one foot with baby on hip, stroller jammed between the adjacent seats, keeping the twins glued to their seat using my super-mama not-quite-angry-but-I-mean-it eyes....

I have always liked Spaceship Earth too... you did know that to cut costs they re-used the molds from the hall of presidents to poplulate the history of time? I love trying to find the president even though I can only do the easy ones (who knew that Taft was Egyptian?)

Another great episode!

:wave2: TwinkieMama. You are cracking me up! Yes, I definitely think you should get a part in Cirque with that performance. Maybe you need me as your agent. :thumbsup2

They reused the molds from the Hall of Presidents? No I have never heard that. Fascinating! You must have learned that in a “Behinds the Scenes Tour?”

:rotfl:

I submit for your approval, a few new phrases you might want to commit to memory for your next trip; handy to know in any language:

"This gentleman will pay for everything."
"Is it okay to bring my laptop into the sauna?"
"The children are sitting under the tree and learning physics.":thumbsup2

:wave2: bunnysmum: Love it! Numbers 1 and 2 would work quite well for us. I’m still noodling over the other one trying to figure out where you might have needed that quote!

This whole segment was hilarious. Thanks for taking us on a magical tour through history, Kay!

:wave2: Philadisney. I’m glad you found my slant on Disney education humorous. Thanks so much for the comments. :goodvibes

ditto on the "liquid papyrus" :rotfl2:

another great post!

Kay - I thought I was following you yesterday but I don't think you live in VA. The car in front of me had a license plate with "Kay" and a bunch of 7's and 9's. Does that tell you that I've been spending too much time on these TR's?

I was surprised you didn't do more with "celerystalker"... I thought you would have somehow incorporated that into the travel back in time or gotten a craving for some crunchy greens

:wave2: Suzflee: I almost missed your post. It snuck in when I wasn't looking. I wonder if that car really WAS me, or rather a duplicate me slightly out of phase with time, due to some distortion of the space-time continuum. Scary thought!

The entire episode was already written and ready to go before the "100th Reader" posted and "won" the episode dedication. That's why there was no direct reference to celerystalker in the episode. Maybe I'll do it your way for the 200th Reader Dedication!

Kay,

I'm another one who loved your Liquid Papyrus idea.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think I would have enjoyed this ride.

More! More! More!!!

Another wonderful report, Kay! I love Spaceship Earth. It's something we never miss. We do that first thing when we get to Epcot on our evening run. (Because Soarin', Test Track, etc. are always on the morning run, natch) Is it only me or does that backwards bit on SE make your back hurt? It never fails that our time travel vehicle gets stopped on that decline..ouch.

And, as we were supposed to be at Disney right now (but I spent waaaay too much on landscaping our yard this past fall, oops!) I need these trip reports to pretend I'm there. A year ago tonight we were there, ahhhhh, memories.

Thank you for my "pretend vacation"! :)

Hi, Everyone! :yay:

Kay,

I'm another one who loved your Liquid Papyrus idea.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think I would have enjoyed this ride. More! More! More!!!

:wave2: iluvsushi: Thanks. Aren’t you glad we didn’t live back then? Yes, I think you would like Spaceship Earth. It’s a classic non-thrill ride with lots of animatronic figures, and it’s something that people of all ages seem to enjoy.

:wave2: Sunkat: I’m sorry you have to settle for a pretend/vicarious vacation. I will try to make this one as enjoyable for you as possible! I didn’t notice any discomfort doing the downhill backwards part of the ride, and I have a couple inflamed discs that I have to go easy on. Maybe if the ride was stopped mid-way for a length of time it would bother me. After the next couple ride reviews, El Rio del Tiempo and Maelstrom (both funny if I do say so myself – I’m fine-tuning them now) I’ll take you back to the Wilderness Lodge and you can hop in the whirlpool spa with us. Maybe that will help your back!

I touch up the wrinkle with the clothing still on me.

This always ends badly.

I have a collection of odd little scars in assorted places. A couple near my collar bone, a few on my arm and wrist, one on my stomach.

Kay -- I gasped with laughter over this, because I do the same thing!! I have a scar on the front of my shoulder that I call my stab wound. ;)

This is my first official post since joining the boards last week . . . I am LOVING your "stories". We're taking our first Disney trip Nov 10-17, staying at the Wilderness Lodge, and I can't wait!

You rock.

And roll.

I'd say more, but my paltry "wit" (if you can call it that) is no match for yours.

Which is all a non-witty way of saying that I'm enjoying your tripppie ohsovery much.

You're verrrry funny.

And pretty, too.

Thanks for bringing the World into my world in such a fantabulous way, m'lady.

xx, Sid

Ok, now bear with me for a minute here.

I have done some exhaustive research and calculations concerning this subject, and I believe a mistake has been made.

you see, when you were "encouraged" to do your qauntum leap into the future, we, the readers and posters, were unwittingly brought along with you.
Now, since we are now in the future, too, that post by Celerystalker, was in actuality, number 106, since the present time hadn't been counted yet, though they must. Ergo, to determine who the "actual" 100th new reader is, we must then backtrack from that point, into the present.
This would push us back to um,, page, uh, no, um Ah! Here it is! Page 20.
And, oh, what a surprise! That would make the 100th new reader, Nebo.
I'll be over here if you need me.

Your not buyin it are you?
Keep up the great work Special Kay

Why are you trying to take away my status?
It's all I have in this world!
I shall fight you for it if you keep it up!!!! :darth:

I hardly ever post but wanted to come out of lurkdom to let you know how much I enjoyed your trip report. Kudos to you!!

PART SEVEN:

I saw references to “Maelstrom – It’s a Fast Pass?” apparently some sort of inside joke that I’ve missed.

Yes, it seems the trip report board has become one big inside joke over the last 9 months, and personally, it's getting old. I've been on these boards for over 8 yrs now (despite my incredibly low posts -- I actually had much more but there was a huge system crash eons ago that wiped out the post counter---but for the most part I am a lurker) and have had the pleasure of reading many fantastic trip reports by very talented writers. You are definitely one of those writers. I appreciate it because your style is humourous and detailed without feeling contrived. And best of all it is not overridden with references to inside jokes, expressions and abbreviations only comprehensible to those fortunate enough to have been around long enough to even know how and why they started in the first place. Yes I'm ranting but with good reason...put in a blog already, so the select few that have been accepted into the TRC (Trip Report Clique) can chuckle to their heart's content. I think these people are fun and witty, but does every trip report have to include dozens of references to Maelstrom, ding, borg, mad props, puke, LYMI and countless other inside jokes to make it a good report and worthy of posting to??

I know that these are good people. Their passion for Disney, family are evident in their writing and I have enjoyed their trip reports. I just find it amazing that not one of these trip report writers has posted to your thread. (At least not that I've seen). It is good writing and reading --- even they could see that. It should be obvious by the number of readers and posters that it is worth checking out. Of course, they are all very encouraging within their own circle of DIS friends' threads and post with abandon being sure to continue the inside jokes ad nauseum. Sorry---it's all too high school for me.

OK rant over.

I apologize for hijacking your thread and using it as a platform to post my frustration.

Keep up the great work!

Super Soap Weekend is pure nuts for those who watch ABC soap operas. I have been there a bunch of times from 2000-2003 and there is no way to move in MGM.

Kay***** - (can't remember your numbers) Your TR is SO funny! We like Spaceship Earth as much as we like Maelstrom!;) At least it's not a Fastpass. I give mad props to the people who thought up the neato lights at the end. I could never, I'm such a ding(bat).

Well I have no puke stories, so I guess that's all.

Borg on the wallets on a string though!

LY/MI ;)

Now I need to go catch up. :rotfl:

I should go to bed I'm feeling snarky. :rolleyes1

:wave2: strongk Hello, new reader! That is amazing. I can’t believe someone else is nutty enough to iron on themselves. Stab wound! I love it! It looks like your trip in November will be approximately the same time period as our last trip. I hope you have a GREAT time!

:wave2: sdy: Hello! Thanks for joining me and for the high praise. Anyone who thinks I’m witty must be witty themselves, otherwise they could not fully appreciate my humor. As for the pretty part, that picture wasn’t me, it was my cat, Tornado. We do look somewhat alike, however. I am a little gray :lmao: at least until I touch up my roots.

:wave2: No Nebo, I’m not buying it, but I really enjoyed following your scientific analysis of the situation, and the fact that you would have been honored to have “won” the dedication episode. Actually, I was quite certain at the time that you wrote Post # 114 but now it shows one of my posts as #114. I’m not sure how that could change, whether the numbering takes into account my initial post. In any case, I still think you wrote post #114, which in the Lucky Fourteens scheme of things is some kind of neat cosmic karma.

Why are you trying to take away my status?
It's all I have in this world!
I shall fight you for it if you keep it up!!!! :darth:

:wave2: celerystalker: Don’t worry, celery, I’ll defend your claim. Drop the light saber and back away slowly from Nebo. I don’t want any severed limbs on my thread. Besides, I think in a future episode we learn that unbeknown to you all these years Nebo is actually your father. ;)

I hardly ever post but wanted to come out of lurkdom to let you know how much I enjoyed your trip report. Kudos to you!!

Wave2: :detroitdad: Welcome, to another new reader. Thanks for the kind words and for feeling I deserve to be patronized by the “Greats.” Maybe they’ll wander over here eventually. Some of the TR writers I feel are among the “greats” already have. I don’t think the use of catch phrases and inside jokes are meant to make anyone feel excluded, although I can see how it might make some people feel that way. I think it’s just that some people spend so much time on the TR boards and really enjoy it that these things naturally develop and some of them take on a life of their own. Many of the references like “Borg” came from very popular TV series like Star Trek, and a great many people automatically know what that term means. Others, of course, don’t. For all I know, some of my little fun things such as the Time Dilation Effect and the Chasm of Fire etc. may some day become funny inside jokes that people throw around. Who knows. If so, I hope no one will be mad at me. And in any case, YOU will be part of MY insiders clique. Again, thanks for the wonderful compliments. I am proud that so many people have “discovered me” and have taken the time to say they are enjoying my Story.

:wave2: KimAshton. And yet another new reader! Hi! Welcome and thanks for posting. I have never been to MGM during the soaps weekend, but someone on the bus to Epcot told me that it’s a great time to go to MGM and hit the rides, because most everyone is there to see the stars, rather than go on rides.

:wave2: MommyPoppins: Okay, you little troublemaker, you! Settle down or I’m going to have to put you in the Time Out chair: out on the ledge of my room at the WL. Shackled to the railing. Facing the service area view. You’ll sit there with no dinner. Until I bring you leftover pork jerky from Whispering Canyon Downs.

(Pay her no mind detroitdad. Some people enjoy inside jokes and eat all that stuff up, while others like yourself find it aggravating. I’m ambivalent!)

The fact that you took the time to acknowledge my rant is admirable. To be honest with you, I don't spend enough time on the boards for this to be aggravating. I was just making an observation. It is what it is and people will either read their story and enjoy it, inside jokes and all, or leave shrugging. I'm not losing sleep over it ;) I guess I was just in one of those crabby moods and felt like venting...sorry to throw you in the middle of it.

I got a chuckle out of mommypoppins' post. I was expecting something like that anyway!

For all I know, some of my little fun things such as the Time Dilation Effect and the Chasm of Fire etc. may some day become funny inside jokes that people throw around. Who knows.

Ooh, ooh!!! I got you covered!!! My new pre-trip report (last link in my signature) mentions your "Time Dilation Effect"!!! ;)

Detroitdad- "Deetdad" as I read your name in my head. I do know the inside jokes only because I'd post something like "HUH????" if someone posted an abreviation or phrase or word I thought was an "inside" thing. You are fine for posting your opinion...I totally agree with you. In fact, I will definitely be more mindful of this because I never want to exclude people or make them feel un- welcome when reading my TR. You sound like a good-guy to me. Dont mind MommyPoppins, she is really a funny gal and was just messing with ya! to you!

Special K- Girl, get a move-on on your next chapter. I need the funny! SHOW ME THE FUNNY! :rotfl2: (HA!)

Sorry to briefly jack your ride! I would not doubt it if your "Chasm of Fire" catches on!

Unless they are Coke drinkers:rolleyes:;)

Diet coke readers ROCK!!!! I dont care what ya drink as long as ya READ! Poor things just dont know any better, that's all. It's my duty to edumacate them.

Celery was reader number 100, what number am I. I would like you to catch up to Zzub, you are witty and dry and ohsofunny. I like your style, thanks for writing a great story.
