Our Royal Adventure: Nine Nifty Nights in November (Updated 6/4)

What a great day! I just went to Magic Kingdom on Monday and you made me want to go again this weekend. :rotfl2:

I have to say the Talking Mickey kind of freaks me out...but that was cool you got to see him!

What a great day! It must be such a different experience with just the two of you.

Looks like fun!

Great pics! :)

Thank you!

I didn't know Mickey could talk!

He only talks at Town Square in MK. I know they first tried it out shortly after our trip in October 2011, but he didn't start greeting guests regularly until October 2013.

He is a little awkward, but we thought it was neat. On this visit, the Haunted Mansion talk seemed scripted, but on other visits during the trip, our conversations were a little more personal.

I had a video to share, but I can't find it on the computer (I deleted the files off my phone because I thought I had downloaded it to the computer).

It was great, and we definitely didn't have any sibling squabbles for the first two days (not that my kids would ever fight with each other).

Joining in!!! We stayed in the Royal guestrooms at POR in 2012 and thought they were very fun, and loved the details. We were at Disney World from November 27th- December 7th this year, and loved all the Christmas decorations. Can't wait to read more.

I left off with us falling into bed after a great day at Magic Kingdom. Truthfully, DD fell into bed, and I took the time to take a shower. (I am usually a morning shower person, but I clean up in the evenings at WDW so we can get out faster in the mornings.) Normally, I would have made DD shower as well, but she did not want to mess up her mermaid makeup. Since we really hadn't gotten hot that day, I let her go without. My apologies to anyone at Hollywood Studios on 11/21 who had to be around my unbathed daughter. :)

Despite her lack of a bath, her makeup did wear off some overnight, so it looked a little strange the next day. But, DD didn't care--she still loved it. So off we went to Hollywood Studios with a slightly faded painted face!

We made it to the Studios about 8:20. We've learned that they always open DHS before the posted opening time (they also got rid of the opening show). We've gotten into the park as early as 8:30, but on this low-crowd day, they opened at 8:50. DD and I went straight to Toy Story Mania, along with everyone else who was waiting to enter.

Afterwards, we headed over to Sunset Boulevard.

I get motion sickness pretty easily, but I agreed to ride Rock 'n' Roller Coaster once. After that, I let DD do the single rider line a few times and I waited for her at the exit.

No one will ever accuse my DD of not having easy-to-read facial expressions.

We also checked in to the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

After DD riding RNR 3 times and both of us riding TOT twice, we went over to see if we could meet Ralph. Although there weren't lines anywhere else, Ralph had a pretty long wait, so we took a picture from a distance. We wanted to have some pool time in the afternoon, so we didn't want to spend 30+ minutes standing in a character line. (The only two pics I wish I had gotten on this trip that I didn't were this one with Ralph and one with Elsa and Anna, but Elsa and Anna's line was 2-3 HOURS. We just didn't want to give up that much park time!)

We headed over to Star Tours next. I agreed to ride, but kept my eyes shut the entire time. This ride makes me SICK! At least someone was smiling...

We had an early lunch at Pizza Planet. My kids love this place. I'm not a fan of the pizza, but the Chocolate Cappuccino cupcake is FANTASTIC. I don't even like coffee, but I love this dessert. It is so moist and yummy. I highly recommend it!

After lunch, we made our way over to Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. Both were shows we wanted to see before our boys arrived. DS isn't a fan of either show.

After a fun-filled morning, we decided to head back to Riverside for some relaxing time at the pool. On our way out, we stopped for a few pics.

We had a great morning at DHS! Coming up...Our Girl-Time Grand Finale!

That picture of your daughter with Tinker Bell is so cute!

Have you ever tried ginger as a treatment for motion sickness? I get motion sickness really badly, too, and started taking the pills on my most recent cruise. They worked great, so I tried it out yesterday at DHS and didn't feel the least bit queasy on Star Tours! I'm recommending them to everyone now. :)

I bought some before we went on our first cruise, but ended up taking Bonine because I didn't want to take any chances and ruin the trip. I would much rather use a natural product, so I'll have to give them a try! I need to find a time to use them and test them out before October. We are sailing on the Wonder then, and it would be great to use ginger instead of Bonine!

WOW! What a successful day! I love the pictures, especially the one in front of TofT!

Thank you!

I love your Royal Room at POR! We'll be staying at one when we go next month, so it was really great to see so many awesome pictures of it!

I understand. I brought Bonine along just in case, but thankfully I didn't need them. I hope the ginger works for you! It's so nice not to have to worry about being drowsy or groggy.

Great updates and pics.

Nice pics with Mickey.

Great shots in DHS.

Sorry for the delay, folks! It has been quite busy around here the last week or so. I'll pick up with my DD and I leaving DHS.

We left DHS and headed back to POR for an afternoon break. It was cloudy, but in the low 80's (doesn't that sound wonderful right now as we are in the coldest winter I can remember?). I didn't want to swim, but sitting next to the pool and relaxing sounded good to me! The pool is located on Ol' Man Island in a lushly wooded area. I loved it! DD enjoyed the slide and the poolside games. Like the parks, the pool wasn't very crowded. My DD actually wished more kids had been there. She always makes friends at the pool!

This was my view...

If you look in the back left corner of the picture, you can see part of a large oak tree. It is the largest living oak tree to be transplanted from one location (Animal Kingdom area) to another. I don't know why I didn't take a better picture of it because it is absolutely beautiful.

After a swim, we went back to the room to clean up for dinner. We had a reservation at Cinderella's Gala Feast at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian, which was our final girly event in our mother-daughter portion of the trip. After getting ready, we started for the bus and realized it was pouring. It rained for several hours, but we couldn't complain. We had to walk to and from the bus and monorail, but we spent most of the time inside. I felt so badly for those attending the Christmas party that night!

We got to 1900 and checked in. For some reason, we had to wait a long time to be seated (more than 30 minutes). This was our longest wait for a table during the trip. On the positive side, they gave us a pager, and we were free to walk around the lobby.

Our first stop was the gingerbread house.

Then we checked out the beautiful tree.

No page yet, so we headed up a level where a band was playing.

When the joy of exploring faded, we found a comfy couch and pulled out the iPod touch. Those devices come in handy! Finally, we were summoned to dinner!

I admit that this was one of my least favorite meals of the trip. For most people, this restaurant is probably more appealing than some Disney character meals because the choices are more varied (many of the dishes had some type of international touch). The downside for me was the many salads. I'm fine with a green salad, but not a fan of pasta salads, potato salads, etc... I also don't like sushi, and there were several varieties. I did enjoy the meats, but the overall menu didn't appeal to my personal preferences. On the other hand, DD was so excited to get some pizza, and she loved the french fries (hooray that there are always basic kids choices at Disney restaurants!). At least one of us enjoyed the food!

Although I didn't enjoy the food, the characters at 1900 are fantastic, and that's why we were there! Anastasia, Drizella and Lady Tremaine are hilarious and always put on a show. They kept us entertained!

Prince Charming was quite charming, of course, and Cinderella was her usual graceful self.

After another wonderful evening, it was time to head back to POR and meet our fellas! They called about the time we finished dinner to let us know they were at the airport. We told them we would see them at POR!

When DD and I returned to the resort, we waited for DH and DS in the gift shop. No matter how much fun we have separately, it is always wonderful to be together again, so we were very excited to see them step off the Magical Express. We showed them the way to the food court so they could eat dinner, and then we all headed to the room. Although our room could be classified by some as a "princess" room, DS (who was almost 12 at the time) was impressed. He thought the royal touches were great, and not too girly at all. Thankfully, our satellite signal had been restored, so my sports-loving boys wound down with some ESPN while DD got ready for bed.

We all turned in looking forward to our first family day in the Magic Kingdom!

Coming Up...A Full Day in the Magic Kingdom (in More Ways than One)

Great update! That is one character meal we have never done. The characters do look fun!

Loving your report so far! Sounds like you picked a good time to visit. I've often wondered how the crowds would be the week before Thanksgiving. My daughter is a vice-principal and I'm trying to talk her and our grandaughter into visiting WDW during that time. Since we would be coming from the west coast, I thought we could leave on the Wednesday in the week before Thanksgiving and return on Thanksgiving or the Friday after. That way we might be able to miss some of the crowds.

The stepsisters are a hoot! We also enjoyed the breakfast there a few years ago. The Mad Hatter is a riot, and he is joined by Mary Poppins, Tigger, Pooh, and Alice.

I really can't recommend the week before Thanksgiving enough. The decorations are up, the temps are great, and the crowds are LOW. This year, we overlapped with Thanksgiving week for the first time, and that was better than I expected as well. Traveling home on Thanksgiving Day is also more affordable because most people don't want to fly on the holiday.

Waiting 30 mins to eat is never fun but if I had to do it anywhere it would be the GF lobby.
