Nothing like being awakened with the fire alarms going off... we dashed downstairs to find it pouring rain inside. :scared1:

my husband shut off the water, but oh man... it's bad.

Thank goodness for those alarms.

I need to call the insurance guy, and then go to sleep... going to be a long long long day tomorrow.

That really sucks. I'm sorry that happened!!

My friend's parents recently redid their bathroom with new flooring. Well the pipes burst and ruined the flooring and leaked into the ceiling and was dripping out of a chandelier.

What a way to be woken up!

That's terrible! I had that happen to me when I lived in Virginia...it's not fun especially at 5am when you're trying to get ready for work. :sad2:

It's been along night, but my DH managed to valve off all the pipes so we have water downstairs, but none up, But I'll take it.

sigh

Aww! Hugs, Bears. What a way to be woken up.

Doesn't it always seem that the worst things happen right around the holidays?

We had a laundry room full of water yesterday. We think the drain hose got dislodged somehow but we're not sure. The pipes are all on the garage wall and we're afraid something froze. Nothing to compare with what you're experiencing, but I feel your pain.

So sorry to hear that, especially around Christmas (as if there is ever a good time). We had the main line into our house pop off an elbow one month after we bought the place one morning while we were out to breakfast and came home to find that end of the house with a few hundred gallons of water in it... luckily we had forgotten a coupon at home and stopped by on our way from breakfast before going shopping or else it could have been worse. Still had to completely gut the family room - floors, walls, insulation, etc. and redo everything. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, though - the contractor discovered that the wrong electrical wiring had been used in the walls when the previous owners had remodeled that room and he was surprised the house hadn't burned down yet. Yikes. Needless to say we replaced the wiring. The room is now actually much nicer and the insurance paid out great and we were even able to get a few good deals and make some upgrades compared to what was there before. Would I want to do it all over? No. Am I glad it happened now? Yes, I guess so. Not fun at the time, but the end result is nicer - and safer! I hope your situation turns out the same. :)

Well that's a crummy Christmas gift! :headache:

Hope you can find someone to take care of it for you today..

Oh man! Horrible timing! I feel your pain...

On our way home from the airport from our October trip to DLR, my husband jokingly said "I sure hope our house is still there, and not flooded or burnt down.":rolleyes1

Arrived home to find the mainline from the street had blown it's pressure exchange valve, and water was pouring in our basement at about 5 gallons per minute. Couldn't shut it off, so while we waited for the water company to fight morning rush hour D.C. traffic, we filled bucket after bucket...

Contractors are almost finished 3 months later... all new floors, drywall, cabinets, moldings, and carpet padding. Ack! But, it could've been worse. The pipe must've burst just a few hours before we got home (only about 6 inch of water on floor). Any earlier in the week, and we would've come home to an indoor swimming pool!

Hope insurance is as cooperative as ours has been, and that everything gets fixed ASAP!

Bummer! Did the pipes freeze? It seems that every problem we've had with our home has to do with water, too. DH accidentally broke the valve where the main came into the house and flooded the (already very wet) basement. Then our kitchen sink was leaking. When we touched the pipes, they fell off the sink! Many more water problems have happened in the 6 years we've lived here. So while our problems are minor compared to yours, we know the damage water can cause, and the pain it is to deal with. Here's a hug! I hope you can get it fixed today.

Yes, the pipes froze and broke.

We are not calling a plumber today (or tomorrow for that matter) We have people coming over and frankly we dont want someone here who rather be at home with their family on Christmas. Nor do we want to incur any holiday pricing that may be involved.

My Husband was able to value off the pipe that is broken so can use water in about half the house (Kitchen, 1st floor bathroom and basement bathroom) Just the second floor is off, which is another bathroom and the laundry room. I am thankful i did a load of the kids clothes and washed all my jeans yesterday. :woohoo:

I have a great insurance agent and great insurance :thumbsup2

Most of the carpet is ripped up, and I have wet towels giong through the spin cycle on the washer, so we are in the groove. :laundy:

Live goes on, but I would really like a nap. :rotfl:

So sorry!!!!

We had that happen here too - we had been living in our home for 3 whole weeks and woke to the smoke detectors screaming and it raining in the family room!!! It is such a terrible feeling....

Hope the Insurance company is cooperative and the clean up smooth......

My husband's a plumber and fears holiday 'problems'. They tend to happen a LOT.

That totally bites, I'm sorry!!! I'm glad your hubby knew what to do so you have some water. yay!

This may be a stupid question, but why were the fire alarms going off?

This may be a stupid question, but why were the fire alarms going off?

Our fire alarms are hard wired to the house and to each other so when one of them was in trouble... it let the other's know and the whole house was blipping and bleeping.

I guess the gallons of water a minute rushing over the alarm set something off in it THANK GOODNESS!!!!

So both the roast and the ham are cooking away nicely. The veggie trays are made, and the fruit platter is practically perfect. Greenbean casserole has been constructed but not heated yet.... Oooh I need to get the shrimp out of the freezer and throw another load of towels in the spin cycle (washer upstairs and no water up there, but I can spin the towels dry before putting them in the dryer)

All in all things could be a lot worse. Can't wait to see family and friends in a couple of hours.

I would still love a smoke and a nap, but such is life :upsidedow

lol, I did neither...

All our guests have come and gone except for the man of the evening Santa...

If I can just get my wound up kids to sleep I might make it before passing out myself.

I wonder how many walls they will have to tear down before they find which pipe burst.... sigh

Man, that just stinks! Glad you & DH are OK though.
