We do have a microwave, toaster, and free standing rotisserie that all work.
We may wait till President day sales
We need a free standing oven/broiler with a stove top.
We are electric, not gas.

I found good review for a GE 5.3 cu ft Freestanding Electric Range with Self-Cleaning - Stainless Steel model
Model JB645RKSS
Home Depot & Lowes has it for $809
Best Buy has it for $854
It is a 2022 model

So I am hoping in Jan/Feb 2023 it will go down in price

Anyone own it ?
Do you like it ?
Any comments welcome before we go out an buy it

I just wanted to commiserate with you. Our oven has not worked since July--though the stove top is fine. It is built into an island and the whole house was built in the 70's. Appliance dimensions have changed over the years and it's been a struggle to find a slide-in that is 26" deep. So we are considering swapping appliance locations but are waiting for the electricians in the family to have time to check it out. I bought an air fryer to help tide us over until we get a working oven and have been happy.

I was considering replacing my oven in summer 2021, but decided to wait for Black Friday deals. By the time that rolled around the model that would sorta fit in my island was discontinued and sold out. The next model was over an inch deeper. So, if you find something you like and the price is fair, my advice is to buy it vs. waiting for the next holiday sale.

The same thing happened to us on Valentines Day. The stovetop still worked but the oven went kaput when I was going to bake stuffed shells. We started looking for new stoves at Presidents Day but the one DW insisted on took 6 weeks to arrive. So we did without until then.

As for Valentines dinner, we went out for pizza and they had these small heart shaped pies.

Our stove/oven work but the are really old, beat up, and nothing keeps the correct temperature anymore. It's a Jenn Air slide in, probably 30+ years old. I am having trouble finding a slide-in we can afford, and I am not interested in a Jenn Air or top-flight appliance, just need a sturdy, reliable stove. And what's all this with "smart" appliances? Prices just go up and up as appliances (cars, etc.) come with bells and whistles that I don't want and have no intention of using (I don't even HAVE a cell phone)!

We have GE appliances and have been very pleased with them. If something isn't working right, you might get an estimate from a repairman since it might be something easy to repair and less costly then buying a brand new stove/oven. I also agree that the various 'smart' features are mostly added cost and likely expensive to maintain. Who really needs their oven to text them when the food is done? Any appliance that uses the internet will also likely be complicated to setup/configure and who wants to be doing software updates to an appliance? Good luck trying to get 'customer service' phone people trying to assist you with an internet related appliance issue. I would imagine the IT people will refer you to the service person who has no knowledge of IT issues.

Timely topic for me! Our oven still works, but only 3 of the 4 stovetop burners work and it just looks beat-up. It's over 10 years old so it will be failing sooner than later. We'd get an electric one, and the only thing I hear consistently is don't buy Samsung! I guess they make pretty good tvs, but their appliance line is lousy. Not sure about a "Smart" version, probably wouldn't use many of the features, though our microwave has some smart features that are handy. Anyway, following along with the brain-trust that is the Community board on the Dis!

I have had experience with a GE electric since 2000. The oven element did burn out once. It must be six to ten years ago now. The replacement element was very inexpensive and simple to self-replace. Otherwise no other issues in now over 22 years. Good luck!

I changed one of the burners on our flat top stove. It was REALLY easy... open the oven door, undo a couple of screws holding the flat top down, raise the flat top, swap the coil, lower the flat top, reattach the screws.

Pretty sure I just googled the manufacturer and model number to get the correct burner coil.

ETA: @pooh2001, don't forget to find out how much delivery/installation/haul off of the old is going to cost. Unless you're going to do all of that yourself.

They don't make 'em like they used to. And that goes for all appliances; every brand. If you bought a new electric range today the best-case life expectancy is 13 years and about 9 years for fridges and dishwashers. Fancy digital features make repairs difficult and expensive; they're designed to be replaced now, not fixed. :(

Whoever would have guessed that the year 2000 would one day be “the good old days”!

So true! When my mother sold her long-time home to move to assisted living in the early 2000s all of the appliances still worked--some were 35+ years old. But we have to come to terms with the new shorter-lifespan appliances, it is what it is. Doesn't mean we have to like it;)

Who needs the oven to text them when their food is ready?

The same fools who bought that Juicero machine or those Tovala ovens.

Fun fact about some models of wifi enabled ovens: they don't work without wifi. Tons of our customers have made that mistake; once the wifi features are enabled, the oven won't start without the command from a device. The feature also needs to be disabled via wifi, which means if your wifi is down, so is your oven. And no, sir or madam, that is NOT a warrantable issue...stop calling me. :sad2:

Um, yeah...I can unfortunately see that coming as a revenue maximization stream for lots of things. :sad2: DH's year-old Toyota now requires a subscription for the remote-start to operate. I'm sure it was in the fine-print of the sales agreement somewhere but must have been completely glossed-over. It's been a BIG DEAL in our house here this week (-30C) and the term "crooked bastards" may have been uttered.

Well if the food is being cooked in the east wing kitchen and I'm in the west wing it could be a convenience. But it's just as easy to have cook arrange for the shuttle to get me to the dining room.:snooty:

We had that happen Thanksgiving morning a few years ago. Turned it on to preheat and the element caught on fire! Fortunately we had a countertop oven and countertop roaster we could use. It felt funny going out on Black Friday looking for a replacement oven element. The only day I use the main oven is Thanksgiving, so now I do a test run a week or so in advance, just to make sure it’s working right.

We had our oven go out and hubby discovered it was something to do with the circuit board (or something like that). He ordered a new one, watched a ton of videos and when it arrived replaced it. Works fine now. We bought a pretty big toaster oven while we were waiting on the part that served us (and still does if we are cooking small things) as an oven. We were going to replace the whole thing but it was during the whole "trying times" and we couldn't find what we wanted anywhere within a 100 mile radius of us.

I buy Costco with the Citi Costco card. Four years of warranty, and Costco warranty means something.
Another vote for Costco, for appliances it should def be on your list of places to check. Same with TVs and computers.

Before you buy a replacement, consider that the heating element might be the only issue. It was when my oven stopped working. I searched the model number, and ordered a new heating coil from Amazon for about $30. With the help of a You Tube vido, I replaced it all by myself in about 15 minutes, it was just a matter of unscrewing a couple screws, inserting the new one and replacing the screws.
