Well, let's just say it was a bit of a disappointment. We just wanted to get away for some peace & quiet. We went to a campground in Saugerties, NY.

For some reason this place thinks that fire truck rides complete with SIRENS BLARING FOR AN HOUR is fun on weekends...I can see giving the kids a ride, but must you use THE SIREN? I work in NYC and hear sirens ALL DAY, I don't need to hear them on vacation, esp when I was trying to nap.

Our SMALL site was RIGHT BY THE BATHROOMS and there was no path to the bathroom. People had to walk through our site or the one next to us.

Speaking of the site next to us...the people there (pleasant and quiet) decided to waterproof their tent with this toxic smelling spray. It was so bad we co uldn't sit outside while it was being done. I have hyper-reactive airway disease and migraines...so there is no way I could have sat there and inhaled that stuff. Not sure how they could stand it.

Next was the Cujo incident. I have to laugh at this now, but at the time I was really scared. Our bulldog, Winnie, had to pee at 3 a.m. I took her outside and heard a rustling. My immediate fear was of a bear, but it was a Great Dane walking around by himself. He had on a collar. Usually my first thought when I see a dog all alone is to help him/her, but I was afraid for Winnie's safety. The dog began to walk toward us and was barking in a not-so-friendly way so I rushed Winnie to the door and banged on the window hard for DH to wake up. Poor thing got so startled, he jumped out of bed thinking we were being attacked by Jason or something and he FELL and hurt his leg. I open the door and he's just LAYING THERE...yes, we laughed hard about it later on. So, I practically threw poor Winnie into the RV and we went back to bed. Left early the next morning.

Your weekend sounds like ours!!!

We always camp on Memorial Day weekend at a campground owned by a family friend. One of my "traditions" is to come outside and sit under our awning and read after everyone goes to bed. It is very peaceful and I can read by our "party lights" we hang on our awning. I was putting the kids to bed and was about to come out when this very drunk, scary man beats on my door. I thought it might be my parents who camp with us so I open the door. He yells at me to turn off my lights because he can't "enjoy" his campfire. He was a site over from us. I told him I sure would when I was ready to go to bed. I don't deal with drunk people, they are unreasonable. I'm about ready to come outside when he starts hammering on our door again....my babies are finally asleep which is a small miracle.....so I am trying to wake my husband who is in a deep sleep. He has to wear a mask to sleep because he has sleep apnea and he is confused, the door is hammering, he tangles in the tube. I'm scared, the dog is barking now and our youngest wakes up. THEN the drunk guy unplugs our lights. That's it, I'm going home. Of course, I was acting unreasonable. My DH did go outside and spoke with the owner. Seems there were several complaints about this guy already so he was going to be moved the next morning to a remote area. Funny thing is....this guy told my Dad the next morning that he very politely lightly tapped on my door and asked me to turn out our lights because he couldn't sleep and I told him to **** off. Quite funny considering I do not use that word and would never tell anyone that!!! He did not lightly tap my door either.

That was just the start...more happened but I've highjacked your thread enough. I hope next time you camp, you have a fantastic time.

The only good thing about Saugerties is it doesn't take too long to go thru it on the way to Woodstock. :hippie:

Yikes, even worse than our weekend! Hope your next trip is great!

Must have been the weekend for bad camping experiences. Only ours was our own fault!
DH had worked so hard the two weeks prior to the holiday weekend (it's our busy season) that I don't think he could relax. He was SOOOOO grumpy! :sad2:
He was very irritable the whole weekend, and it was even worse because DD had a friend with her. I felt very bad for the kids, and tried to make the best of it.
DH was so bad, the girls made up a song about how grumpy he was! :rolleyes1
(to the tune of Pretty Woman)
Kranky Kevin.....Walking down the street
Kranky Kevin......The guy I don't want to meet! :lmao:

It goes on and on. At least he had a good sense of humor and recognized his own crankiness!!!!

Maybe our everyone's next trips will be better!
