Hi All!

We just got back from a 8 night stay in the world and ate at some pretty amazing places. Before this trip, Le Cellier was my favorite but then we dined at California Grill and really enjoyed the food there.

Well, then the last night of our stay we went to Raglan. Now, before I begin, I must state that DH is a very basic eater...no fish except shrimp cocktail and his meals usually consist of meat and starch with minimal veggies thrown in. I eat basically everything...but no salmon except for lox...and that is minimal.

The cast of characters: Me, DH and DS9

We discussed the menu prior and DH decided he would try Kevin's Heavenly Ham. This is no longer on the menu...he then was disappointed with the other options.

The service: Vinnie was our server. He was very good and informative...very laid back, could have been mistaken for slow at times (I don't know if that makes sense), but was great dealing with all my questions.

Drinks: I had a beer flight, then a pint of something...they were all good...if only I could remember what I had...;) I do remember the Grand Marnier with dessert. They had better coffee than the rest of the world too.

For appetizers we decided to share the:

Colpucinno - frothy Colcannon soup, a creamy potato, bacon and cabbage soup

Drunk Chicken - a whiskey glazed chicken kebab served with lime cilantro dipping sauce

Heaven on Earth - baby back ribs in a Guinness and honey glace

We enjoyed the appetizers very much...although, the chicken was a little bland and the dipping sauce was like mayo. My son didn't seem to mind and gobbled them down.

We also enjoyed Soda Bread and Guinness/Brown Sugar dipping Sauce. (We had to ask for this). This was not like the traditional bread that I have had. It was a dense, brown oatmeal bread. It was very good.

For entrees we had:

DH: Serious Sirloin Steak - 10 oz sirloin topped with Irish whiskey glazed, drizzled with gresh basil oil. Served with mashed potatoes and topped with crispy fried onion strings.

He also ordered a side of Creamed Corn (not sure of the name of this on the menu). He was very pleased with everything and said the steak was better than Le Cellier and California Grill. The side of corn was amazing!!! :thumbsup2

Me:
Now, I was going to get the fish and chips but asked the server (Vinnie) what he recommended. He said he recommends fish dishes since all the seafood is flown in daily...he said to try the:

It's Not Bleedin' Chowder - It is potatoes, mussels, prawns, scallops and fresh seafood infused with white wine and finished with cream. ***This is not a soupy, liquidy dish...it is very thick...definitely not like a clam chowder.***

What I didn't ask was what kind of other seafood is in this dish. Well, it came out and there it was...SALMON...:scared1: I decided that it shouldn't be that bad since I could probably pick it out but when I tried it...I LOVED it!!! :cool1: :woohoo: It was the best thing I had on the entire trip.

DS9: Gold'n Chicken - Two deep-fried chicken goujons - This was a nice plate of chicken tenders and "chips"/fries. He was very happy with this...the fries were great!

For dessert:

DH: Me Ma's Apple Pie - Cooked apples, mouth watering pastry and ice cream He said this was unbelievable.

Me: Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding...Yum, Yum, Yummo! This was very buttery and the two sauces that accompanied it were great!

DS: Plain old vanilla ice cream...;)

As I sit here and type this, I am salivating and cannot wait to plan my next trip to Disney so we can dine at Raglan again.

I hope you have enjoyed my report...please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your great review! I have been going back and forth about RR. We were going to go this past Feb. but then we changed our minds, and went somewhere else. We are going to WDW again this January and were considering RR again, but I haven't made up my mind for sure.

But, I think we are going to give it a try. We do have one day that we still have not made an ADR for, because I canceled something and haven't made another one yet. So.....I think we may finally go to RR. I think I am going to give the It's Not Bleedin' Chowder a try, it sounds yummy!

Thanks for the review! :thumbsup2

If you don't mind answering, could you tell me a little bit about atmosphere of the place? Noise level? Crowd? Entertainment?

We were there in September and it was an amazing meal! I had the chowder and it was absolutely delicious! The Dalkey Duo has us salivating again too. I cannot wait to go back and next time I am seriously trying out one of the beer flights!

Thanks for the review! :thumbsup2

I don't mind at all. We had a 6:45 ressie.

It is a pretty big place, very high ceilings with 2 (I believe) big bars in the center. It was a little noisy but nothing for us to say, "Hey, its really noisy in here". There were a few restaurants that were noisier, Marrakesh for one... It was pretty crowded but we got our table within about 5 minutes. It was a mixed crowd...there were alot of kids. While we were there, there was no entertainment, so I cannot say too much about this. I believe it starts around 9pm.

I hope this helps!

I too LOVE the It's Not Bleedin Chowder and often have dreams about it!! I will be eating there in 9 days!!! Can't wait...glad to hear a good review...things have been hot and cold about Raglan Rd on these boards.

It does help me a lot--thanks! I think I can convince DH and ILs to give it a try!

I just edited my original post to say that the Its not Bleedin Chowder is not really soupy or chowder like...it is very thick with minimal liquid. I just wanted you guys to know since I just read that someone on another thread did not like it and that it did not have alot of broth...

I am rambling but I tend to be talkative.

Enjoy!

Nice review of Raglan Road. Hopefully our experience will be as good as yours.

I noticed you said you went to California Grill. Planning on a review of that? :rolleyes1

:goodvibes

Jeez, you're really gonna make me do it, huh? I will...maybe tonight. That was an amazing meal too but not as WOW as I expected. I may get flamed for that...

That should start the vacation out on a high note. :thumbsup2

Since this is Abi's first time at Disney we're going to MK around 5:00 for the castle lighting followed by Wishes then dinner at CG. I'm trying to make her first night as magical as I can.

Sorry, Lauren, for going way OT here.:guilty:

Great review! Seems like it has been pretty mixed lately, but I am glad to hear its not always so. Looking forward to sending the kids to the movies and taking this in!

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

Thanks for the review...I LOVE ham and cabbage so I am sad it is not on the menu anymore. I am not going until July so hopefully I will see an updated menu before then

DH and I had an unplanned lunch there yesterday - seated immediately and had a great server named Colin. We mentioned that we had hesitated because of bad reviews on this site and he was very concerned. DH had the lobster sandwich with ceasar salad and I had the steak sanger but substituted the potatoes instead of chips. DH told Colin his usual beers and asked what he reccomended and that turned out to be Murphy's (which DH loved). I had a Stella Artois because I drink that occasionally, but during the meal Colin brought by a sample glass (from the beer flights) of Harp and I liked that even better. DH had a second Murphy's but I switched to water. The food was delicious, the beer was good, and Colin was wonderful - he only charged us for one beer even though we didn't expect any special treatment.

It sounds like they are really trying hard right now - Colin asked me specifically where I read the bad reviews and said he was very glad we gave them the opportunity to impress us. Even without the comped beer I would have reccomended this restaurant and very highly reccomend Colin just for his attention and knowledge of the products.
