Here is a picture of my daughter's new bunny!
MA58.10976175-2-x.jpg

he is still at the shelter because he is going to get spayed either tomorrow or Tues and then we can bring him home.. They call him Dutchy but we are going to rename him.. Emma wants to call him either Fred, Max or Pip but none of them really suit him. He is very friendly and very curious. The best thing is that when he gets upset he stamps his foot and gives you this little "brat" look...

What a cutie....What about "Thumper" he sounds like he has got a great personality.

He is so adorable!! Hope you enjoy him as much as we enjoy ours! We have a Lionhead bunny and just love him sooo much! Ours is named Ollie - Sir Oliver to be precise... :)

Congratulations. He looks adorable. We have a Holland Lop and we LOVE her. She really became part of the family....more than we ever thought a rabbit would.:thumbsup2

He's so cute!! I think Thumper would be a great name for him. Male bunnies make better pets if they are neutered.... otherwise they "spray" YUCK! Keep us updated!

i have to call the vet this afternoon to see what time today I can get him so Ill update with pictures later if he is up to it..

Oh he is adorable!!
So where do you keep a rabbit? My kids are dying for one as we had the baby bunnies in our yard this year. And we still have about 6 of them hanging around our yard-

our first rabbit we kept in the bathroom in a huge cage and then he got moved to the barn in a wooden hutch because he didnt like being inside..

Max...(we finally decided on a name) will be living in the kitchen in a 2 story rabbit condo that we made from the wire cube shelves.. its cheaper than buying a real cage and you can decide on how you want it..ill post pictures soon

Well, Max came home last night. We werent sure if he was going to because he started to bleed a bit and they needed to put him back under again to restitch him. Turns out it was only a skin bleed so they let him come home. The only thing is that is I need to ice his "boy bunny parts" I wish I had a picture of him in my lap on his back with a bag of peas between his legs!:rotfl2:

He was quiet last night but up and moving around better this morning. He let me ice him again and ate his salad and his banana slice. At the shelter he got a salad of romaine and parsley twice a day and got a slice of apple or banana for a treat... I never thought that rabbits would like bananas but he devours them! he wasn't up for pictures so Ill try to take some this morning.

Hope Max feels better soon, I had to laugh when I read your post of him sitting on your lap with frozen peas. Sounds like he has found a wonderful home :thumbsup2

I have been suckered into a bunny when we move into our new home. I had no idea you could get one from a shelter. Tell me, was it really expensive? I dont know the first thing about taking care of a bunny.

Your Max is adorable. When my lazy daughter gets out of bed I will be showing her the pictures. Please, please, please get a picture of the bunny with peas between its legs :rotfl2:

We got him at the MSPCA a few cities away. We paid $80 for him and that included him getting neutered and a cardboard carrier to take him home in. I read that it cost around $50-$75 to get them neutered at a reg vet. I know this vet does a low cost neutering because all of the animals from the shelter get fixed there but to me it was worth it because it would have cost me around $20-40 for a rabbit from a breeder plus the cost of getting him fixed..

Max is doing better. He was still bleeding last night a bit. Nothing major just drops here and there. He must have been drugged still because now that they wore off he doesn't like to be picked up.. He still might be sore through so we are pushing it. I needed to go out and get him a new litter box because the corner one was too small for him and he proceeded to pee all over the cage. I still haven't gotten pictures so hopefully tomorrow...

Congratulations on the bunny !!! Sooooooooo cute!!!!

I've had bunnies for years. One thing that most people don't understand is that rabbits are just like having a dog or a cat for a pet. I've always allowed my rabbits free roam of my house. They've always used their litter box, just like a cat. At night I would put them back in their cage.
My outdoor bunnies also had a bunny condo in the backyard. In the morning I would open up the cage and they would spend the day roaming the backyard and would go back into the cage to eat. They would also go back into the cage once it got dark, and I would then close it to keep them safe from the racoons.
If a bunny is happy with their home, they will never leave. They might leave to roam around the neighborhood and socialize with other bunnies, but they always come back at night. There's a bunny that has the same chocolate coat as one of my old bunnies, Cookie, right around the corner. Cookie was a roamer, a ladies bunny, so I wouldn't doubt I'm seeing his offspring.

Just remember that bunnies do not like to be cooped up in a cage their whole life. It makes me very sad to think that a majority of domesticated rabbits live and die in a cage. :worried:
Just like your cat and dog, bunnies love to be babied. I've always had my bunnies fall asleep while laying on their back in my arms. They love to be pet on the bridge of their nose with two fingers, between their eyes, up and around their ears. If you cuddle your bunny while it is young, it will always want to be cuddled. If you get a bunny who's a little older, it won't be used to that type of affection.
If you decide to keep your bunny in the house and let her/him roam, hide the wires for your appliances. Bunnies have a natural instinct to trim the roots in their warrens to keep it clean. An indoor bunny's warren is the area behind your furniture, and the 'roots' are the wires for your computer, television, stereo, etc. keep those areas blocked off. If you've got carpet, they also like to scratch in the corners, which isn't good. I don't know why they did that......
My first bunny was very smart. My dad didn't like her having free reign of the house and he would always try to scare her. Well.......When she saw my dad was approaching his bedroom, she would run over to my dad's door before he would and sit right in the middle of the doorway, waiting for him to see her, and poop!!!!! It drove him NUTS!!!!!!! I don't think she did it because she was scared, she was just making her point. She did that Every Day! It's hysterical to think that my father was matching wits with a rabbit - and she always got the last laugh :)

If you ever have a question, please feel free to ask. Best of luck to you and your family

My in-laws had a bunny for a long time. She ws a real pip, she loved bird seed, that was one of her favorite treats.

Once he heals he will have free range of part of the house. They told me to keep him contained in his cage until the bleeding and swelling is gone. His cage is huge, its 2 stories. He seems to like to use his straw mat as a litter box. I bought him a bigger litterbox and he sits in it and eats the hay...

The think that is confusing me is the gave me a packet of rabbit info and alot of it is completely different than what I have read online or in my rabbit books. They use hay for his litter and just add clean hay on top for him to eat. They said that shavings cause kidney failure..plus they make a mess because they like to dig. He does have a hay manager but doesnt really eat from it unless I take the hay out of it. He is only supposed to get a tiny bit of grain a day and once it is gone no more until the next day..thankfully he isnt finishing all of the grain yet.. He gets salads of romaine lettuce and parsey 2 times a day. He just learned how to drink from the water bottle so we have both the bottle and the crock..he can have a tiny piece of fruit for a treat and they dont want him to have any prepackaged treats. My old rabbit loved cheerios and the yogurt drops...he used to beg for the me..

He is so cute. My daughter has a black and white rabbit that she named Oreo.
