Our (mostly fast food) dining experiences last week!

I posted on another thread some of this, but just wanted to update everyone on some of our dining experiences last week. We ate at several fast food restaurants in the MK and Epcot (usually the Electric Umbrella). My kids found the food really good, but for 9-12 year olds, the portion sizes simply weren't enough. Ended up ordering adult meals for the 12 year old, and frequently 2 kids meals apiece for the 9 and 11 year olds. The drinks were really tiny and my kids were always thirsty so just a warning.

One really nice thing about Epcot is the number of counter restaurants in World Showcase where you can get food that's a break from the burgers/nuggets. We went to Epcot 2 evenings, and we'd stop in Electric Umbrella to get food for the kids, then when we got around WS I'd get something more appealing to me. I really enjoyed the Japanese counter service with Miso soup, salad with ginger dressing and rice instead of yet another burger! My kids shopped and bought pearls inside while I was eating and then joined me to have some salad.

The only sit-down we ended up doing was Sci Fi and I was really disappointed with that. Everyone seemed so frantically rushed, yet service was SO slow. I ordered milkshakes for all 3 kids - 2 vanilla, and 1 strawberry. Server brought 2 chocolate, then disappeared for 15 minutes. I didn't know if I should let the kids drink them (they don't like chocolate much). Finally reappeared and glared at us when I told him (even though we hadn't drank more than one sip to determine it was chocolate - couldn't see in that lighting). Then another 15 minutes to reappear with 2 vanilla - still no strawberry. A very long wait for the hot dogs (which all 3 of my boys said were REALLY greasy), even though I asked for the check then, again a really long wait.

Obviously it was just our server, but there was a couple sharing our car with us and they had their food way before us even though they were seated after us. (And yes, we had those tricky hot dogs to cook!) I can understand being treated that way with kids if we were in an upscale restaurant elsewhere, but not at Disney, and not at a restaurant like the Sci Fi, which I think targets kids!

Also, no free frisbies anymore with the kids meals. They pushed you to buy those light up cups for $6 each, but I just couldn't justify spending that much on a cup that will die out in a few hours! To me not a good substitute for the frisbies or something similar. We won't be going back there!

Churros and funnel cakes were good as always, and I just wish there was somewhere around here to get churros!

Sci Fi hasn't offered free Frisbees in years, unfortunately.

As for Churros, look in the Mexican section of your grocer's frozen food section. Not quite the same, but not bad.

Also, here's a really easy way to make something that tastes a lot like a churro:

Cut flour tortillas into 1/8s -- I use kitchen scissors. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the tortillas until they are light brown and puffed up. Remove and drain ona paper towel, then dip in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

Thanks for the reviews! Hope you had a funnel cake for me too. ;)

Thanks for the reviews. We also like that there are a lot of counter service choices in Epcot that aren't burgers!

Enjoyed the reviews. I have not eaten at the Sci-Fi but in general I have heard the food was overpriced and not that great.
Everyone has different tastes, but my family also usually eats counter service and then splurges on one or two nice meals. I enjoy reading everyone's food reviews!
