Day 6 continued: March 18, 2010
We left off leaving the MK and heading to the Contemporary. Instead of waiting for a monorail, we decided just to walk over. We used to use that path all the time when we would stay at the Contemporary every year. It was so much fun getting to do that again! While walking along this path, there are always these plants that smell really bad. I dont know if its the mulch around it or what, but they stink! When we were younger, we used to always sing this song that we made up in reference to Phoebes song from Friends called Smelly Cat. We replaced the word cat with plants, so it was Smelly plants, smelly plants
its not your fault. haha. Dont ask me why it was that song, but it just stuck with us and now every time we walk by them, we think of it. Since Sis wasnt with, I had to sing the song by myself. It wasnt as fun. Haha.
Another perk about the path is it only takes 7-10 minutes to get to the MK from the Contemporary or vice versa. We walked past all the people waiting at the Contemporary bus stops and walked into the main lobby. I immediately was sad because I saw that the Walt and Mickey statue (I think it was Walt, but correct me if Im wrong) was gone! Sis and I used to always get our pic taken in front of it at the beginning of each trip. Oh well. We kept walking through the lobby and I was amazed at how much has changed since weve stayed there. The whole lobby area is refurbed! As we walked by the check-in, I said See you in July! And I think I did a little skip, but lets just pretend no one saw. HAHA.
We walked by The Wave and I started to get really excited about finally getting to eat there. We still had some time to waste, so we headed out the sliding glass doors and out to one of our must-do traditional pics at the Mickey Ears. Fiancé figured out the timer on my new camera, so he was able to get in the pic too! Since Sis wasnt there, he decided to take her spot:
Yeah
that was really weird not having Sis there. I know its just a picture, but we have seriously been taking our pic there every year for as long as I can remember. Sometime Ill have to scan all the older ones and post a Through the Years of Mickey Ears pics.
After we got our pic, we wanted to head over to BLT and check it out now that people were finally staying there, so we started walking that way. On the trip of our last year of staying at the Contemporary before we became DVC members, we were lucky and the CM checking us in upgraded us to the main tower! We had a Bay Lake view and were up pretty high. I remember when wed go down to the pool, wed tie a towel some crazy way on our railing so we could tell which room was ours. I cant remember which exact one it is, but its in this pic somewhere. Haha:
Just walking up to BLT was pretty amazing. It is hard to believe that there used to be another garden wing of rooms there before! We walked upon an intersection. We could either go left and head to the lobby entrance or go right and head to the pool. We decided to go left.
We made it up to the front door and realized that it was locked! You had to have a room key to be able to get in! Great. Well, I took a pic of the welcome sign anyways:
As I was doing that, a CM comes out and asks us if we were staying there. We said no and he told us we werent allowed in then. Boo. He was just so snotty about it. He could have definitely said things differently. After he went back in, we turned around and looked at each other like Well then
They werent messing around there.
I took a few pics before we went back to the main building
The MK looked so close!:
We stopped along the path and waited for a monorail to go by:
As you can tell, it looked like it was going to rain any minute. I was hoping it would hold off until the middle of the night while we were sleeping! We were starting to get hungry and it was close enough to our ADR time that we decided to just go check-in.
The lady at the check-in desk was SO nice. She saw our pins and congratulated us. She asked if I had any idea that he was going to propose and when I said no, she just looked at Fiancé and went Awwww. haha. She told us to walk through the tunnel and a CM will be waiting to seat us there. Walking in, I could not believe that the area used to be the food court and arcade! I think I mentioned this to Fiancé at least 20 times during our meal, haha. As we walked past the waiting area, I instantly thought of Kristen because she had sent me a pic from there when she was there with Chris. As the CM took us to our table, I think my jaw was dropped the whole way. It was so beautiful in there. I had been anticipating seeing how the restaurant looked and to finally be there was surreal.
After looking over the menu, I told Fiancé that we have to bring Mom, Dad, and Sis here in July. They would love it. Our server came over and she was either not having a good day or just not friendly. She quickly took our drink orders without even looking up at us then walked away. Okay then
We werent going to let her ruin our meal. By the time she brought our drinks, we knew what we wanted to order. We were doing the dining plan for this meal, but I was able to order the Wave Appetizer for 2 and have it count as an entrée. It was SO good. It had sautéed sea scallops, rock shrimp, and crab cakes. For dessert, I had the Creamy Indulgence, which is The Waves signature dessert. It comes out on this long plate that has three little square sections to it. In each section is a little different dessert, which were: Cheesecake with Raspberry Coulis, Coconut Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit Drizzle, and Chocolate-Passion Fruit Mousse with Pecan-Olive Brittle. All I can say is YUM! Fiancé had the Angus Chuck Bacon Burger, which came with your choice of coleslaw or potato wedges. Fiancé chose the coleslaw. He also had the Creamy Indulgence for dessert. Both of our meals were amazing. I really recommend The Wave to anyone!
After we were done eating and had to be rolled out of there, haha, we headed up to the concourse level. We really wanted to go out onto the observation deck, which we had found recently on a previous trip. We think it would be amazing to watch Wishes from there! When we went out, we saw that the entrance to the BLT walkway is out there! But it was locked, and again, you had to have a room key to get in! Darn it! While I was looking at the Castle and just taking it all in, I take a pic of the walkway
and realize that Fiancé is in it! He sees me and motions for me to come over to the door and he let me in. I said to him What are you doing?! How did you get in here?! He says, I just waited for a family to go in and followed them. I about died! He told me to relax and just enjoy the view since we werent really doing anything wrong. And heres when the million pics start taking place. I have to say though, it is REALLY windy up on the walkway. I had my hood up and was leaning all weird ways to keep my hair out of my face so I could take the pics. So please appreciate the great lengths that I went to while getting them for you! Haha:
You can see the top of WL great from up there:
Down on the ground, you can see the intersection we were at that I mentioned earlier:
Down further on the walkway was Fiancé, my rebel, haha:
The BLT lobby entrance, where we encountered the mean CM, haha:
Wow, the view of the MK was so great from up there. I cant imagine how great of a view people staying in BLT have from their rooms!:
The sun was finally starting to come out!
I ducked down a little and you could see a monorail coming from the GF to the MK:
So I stood there and waited for the monorail to leave the MK and get to the Contemporary:
I made my way closer to BLT. Heres a view of the main building:
I kept telling Fiancé, Can you believe we were down there?! Right there!
We got a glimpse of the BLT pool:
Ahh..heres a better view of the Castle:
A WDW bus pulling up to the Contemporary bus stops:
One of the Contemporary/WL/FW boats was at the Contemporary dock:
By the time I had made my way to the BLT building, I realized that Fiancé was in there! I kept thinking to myself, Great. Were going to get caught. Were going to get kicked out. And well be banned from WDW for forever! But then, another part of me kept thinking how cool it was we were finally able to see what BLT looked like on the inside! Being a DVC member, we always take pics of the rugs of Resorts we stay at. Even though we werent staying there, I still had to take a pic of it since its DVC:
I didnt take any pics once we got inside, but all we did was walk all the way down the hallway and looked out a window out to the pool. When we made our way back out to the walkway, we couldnt help but laugh. I texted Dad and Kristen and told them to be ready to break in to BLT in July. They have to see the views from the walkway even if we dont go into the building.
When we made it back to the concourse level in the main building, we decided to look around the gift shop. They had some cute things in there, but its all stuff that we have already seen in just about every other WDW gift shop! Haha. We headed over to Chef Mickeys so I could get a pic and say See you in July!
Then, we decided to catch a boat over to WL, so we headed down the escalators to the lobby level. Before we went out the sliding glass doors, I turned and got one last look at the lobby. I thought to myself, The next time Ill be here, the little guy will be with, Ill be meeting Kristen, and it will be the best trip ever.
As we walked outside, I wanted to take a pic of the refurbed pool:
We cant wait to go swimming there!
~Up next:
The rest of our afternoon and our last night of the trip. Boo.
