Our Magical WDW Adventure ~ 23 Days of Fun, Food, Cocktails... London Trip 2/8

Hey Ariel! We've been busy with Thanksgiving and family and then today we went and chopped down our Christmas tree and hung outside lights.
You've been busy with your food ideas and rating system! :goodvibes For counter service we had Casey's in MK on day and then some sandwich bar thing over near TOT in DHS. Both were just ok... maybe even the one in DHS wasn't so very good, just filling ourselves up to keep running the rides! :rotfl: Mostly we did ADR's.

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving, I envy you all with your yummy turkey and spending time with family. I would definitely like to be in America one year for thanksgiving and see what its like to experience it.

Ok I will avoid the sandwich bar place near TOT, thanks for the heads up :thumbsup2. We mostly do ADR's too, I much prefer TS meals, but since we are on the DDP we have to make the most of it. Maybe next time we should try the Deluxe plan then it would be TS all the way :woohoo:

Hey Ariel! Sorry it took me forever but I just finished reading your first report and I absolutely LOVED it! I can't believe how much you and Nick got done. Not only did you visit all the major parks in central Florida, but you got to visit the water parks, play mini golf, swim with dolphins and manatees, go on a hot air balloon ride, take an Illuminations cruise, eat at amazing restaurants and drive a cool car. Now that's a trip! I don't even want to imagine what that all cost, but just know that I'm jealous ;)

I love how many souvenirs you guys bought, you got some really cute stuff! I went crazy and bought just as much back in 2005, but I've scaled it down since then. Now I only let myself buy things I actually know I'll use since half the stuff I bought I didn't know what to do with from the beginning, and the other half eventually made it from my room down to the basement over the past few years  When you're leaving it always helps to bring back pieces of the magic though, doesn't it?

Thanks again for sharing such a great report. It was one of my favorites! And now I'm off to get some breakfast (or brunch since it's 12:30 in the afternoon here) and then I'm going to catch up on this pre-trip report. I was upset to see your report come to an end, so I'm psyched to already have a new one to read! :goodvibes

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :thumbsup2. Its kind of the usual thing over here, that when you go to Florida you do all the parks (maybe minus BG since its further away). And we love them all so couldn't possibly leave any out. Nick and I were lucky when we went as it was off peak so the parks were all really quiet. Plus it was just the two of us so we could just do what we wanted and it meant we always had lots of free time. I'm glad as we loved doing all the little extra things like mini-golf and Ripley's, Orlando just has so much to offer.

I know I go slightly crazy with souvenirs, I mean I have so many Disney beanies and pens, and magnets, but I just can't stop. We have a Disney room in our house. It is the spare room and we decided to put all our Disney stuff in there, so now we always buy loads of things to put it there. I love it, every time I walk in there it makes me smile... but I think guests think I'm a bit nuts :lmao:.

I hope you enjoy my PTR :thumbsup2

The One Where The Magic Really Begins...
...Way Before We Even Get To WDW

To Make A Holiday Practically Perfect You Need To Have A Perfect Plan
Fun, Fun, Fun ~ Pt. 1

Like I said before, Nick and I like to try and do and see as much as we possibly can on holiday. At home we love to spend our days off doing lots of fun things like visiting the zoo (I love the zoo), going to London and doing all the many attractions they have to offer, seeing shows, movies, going to the beach, moors or country park, ice skating, swimming and so on.
So when were on holiday we go into overdrive and like to fill every day with fun, fun, and if time, more fun :tigger:. And plus when we are on holiday, any holiday, we love to see as much of the place as possible. Of course there is so much to do and see in all the parks, and outside the parks, and I plan to try and see as much of it as I can, one trip at a time. So for this trip to WDW, like every other we have taken, we have planned some interactions, tours and shows:

Interactions

Beluga Interaction ~ We both love the water and love to do things like snorkeling. And not only do we love animals, we love marine life too and love to visit aquariums and sealife parks, learning all about marine life. So after having some amazing experiences at Discovery Cove, which we both love so much, we decided to try a Seaworld Interaction last time. We did the Shark Dive and loved the whole experience, it was so good being able to see these creatures up close and learn more about them, and Seaworld made the whole experience so good and insightful. This time we wanted to try another interaction there, and I thought the Beluga Interaction sounded really good. I have always loved watching the Beluga whales, so the opportunity to see them up close and interact with them is so cool.

Discovery Cove ~ A definite 'must do' every trip for us, we just love this place. It is a little expensive, but to us it is worth every single penny. We love the tropical atmosphere, we love that everything is included, we love snorkeling amongst the beautiful tropical fish, feeding the rays, and of course playing with the dolphins.

---------------

Tours

Key's to the Kingdom Tour ~ We love Magic Kingdom, its just so magical. And we love learning anything we can about Disney. Therefore this tour sounds great for us, we get to learn about our favorite place, and see some of the backstage bits too.

---------------

Shows

La Nouba ~ Nick and I are major Cirque fans and try to see them whenever possible. We have already seen La Nouba a few times (3 for me, 2 for Nick), and have also seen 3 other shows, soon to be 4. La Nouba is our absolute favorite of the shows and is a 'must do' for us every time.

Blue Man Group ~ I booked this as a surprise for Nick last year as he had been going on about seeing it. After seeing Cirque du Soliel a few times and loving it we both thought this looked really good, and it was, it was so funny and entertaining. Nick has gone on about it ever since and regularly watches the other shows online, so it was a given we would go and watch it again.

---------------

In addition, we plan to do the following:
- Hire a boat at DTD
- Do a horse and carriage ride at POFQ
- FW camp fire
- Mini golf - probably Winter-Summerland as we really enjoyed that this year
- Visit a beach

And if we have time we hope to do:
- A helicopter tour
- Parasailing at the Contemporary (as we missed out this year due to the wind)

Currently nothing is definite yet, but I hope that by Christmas most should be booked. Then its just a matter of waiting... although I'm sure I can find some more planning to do :surfweb:

Hey again! I just got caught up with your pre-trip and I'm so excited for you and Nick! It sounds like you have another great trip in the works :goodvibes

Since you're up to counter service restaurants, I just had to mention a few. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot have the best counter service :thumbsup2 Cosmic Ray's at the Magic Kingdom is our favorite - it's huge in there, there's a ton of good food to choose from, and you get a little show from Sonny Eclipse as you eat  It's a great place. At Epcot we love Sunshine Seasons, the Electric Umbrella and the Liberty Inn. All three have huge seating areas and lots of good food to choose from. And speaking of snacks, we always get food at the Liberty Inn and then run out to the stand around the corner to get fried ice cream and a funnel cake for dessert, which we eat in the air-conditioned comfort of the Liberty Inn. It's one of our favorite traditions :goodvibes

We're never had counter service food at Animal Kingdom, but good counter service at MGM is few and far btween :headache: My brother loves the Back Lot Exress for their veggie wrap, but that's really it. Everything else we've tried hasn't only been nothing special, but it's been gross  Thankfully they have some fun sit-down restaurants!

You also have to get snacks from Goofy's Candy Company at Downtown Disney. You can get three chocolate-covered pretzels for like $2.50. I always get mine dipped in milk chocolate and then covered in m&ms, butterfingers and sprinkles with white-chocolate glaze. The mix of sweet and salty is SO good!

Hopefully it will be another great trip. I am determined it will be anyway :wizard:

I love funnel cake so that idea sounds really good. And what exactly is fried ice-cream :confused3

We have been to Cosmic Rays twice and really liked the food. But till recently I had never heard of Sonny Eclipse so will have to keep an eye out for him. If we can't find anything in MGM we will just stock up on snacks from the candy store and starring rolls, I love their cakes there, there very good :thumbsup2

I cannot wait to go to Goofy's, it all looks so good. We have actually never been but I have been seeing all the pictures of all the yummy snacks and can't wait. The pretzal rods sound really good. I have only tried a salted pretzal before, and it was horrible, far too salty (and I love salt). But covered in chocolate and candy sounds good to me :)

Fried ice cream's really good! They always have it in Mexican restaurants here in the city, but I don't know how authentic it is to Mexico. It can be found at the funnel cake stand outside the American Adventure. It's ice cream (vanilla or chocolate, but vanilla's better!) covered in fried, toasted coconut. It's delicious! Here's a picture...

And Sonny Eclipse is the big alien who plays the piano and sings in the main room of Cosmic Ray's

Ariel!

Wow! Your trip plans seem like a dream! The Poly is also one of my favorite...I can just imagine you jumping up and down when Disney came out of that deal! I am so glad you got what you wished for :)

I'm afraid I can't give much imput for your latest post...interactions. I havn't done most of the things you have listed.

One thing that Steve and I will be doing for our Honeymoon trip this January is Hoop De Doo Musical Review. That is kind of entertainment/dining. I've just heard so many wonderful things about it!

We are also doing the Dining Plan! So excited!

I can give you some of my favorite counter services that are on the dining plan...

We always eat it separately, we just get them at the same time since they're from the same stand  I'm sure it would taste good though, I never really thought about that... mmmm :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Alarose - Thank you so much for all the ideas, I will definitely look into them all.

We did Hoop dee doo this year and absolutely loved it, I'm sure you will too. The food was really, really good and the show itself is so funny and entertaining. We were a bit worried at first as there was just the 2 of us and we were put on our own table right at the front, right in the center, we could actually touch the stage. But it was such a great table, we had the best view ever and the cast were a lot of fun. We will definitely be doing it again in the future, but want to wait till my family are with us again as I know they will love it :lovestruc.

Melissa - I might have to try them together. I have only ever had funnel cakes from Blizzard Beach and we get it with vanilla ice-cream which is so tasty, they go really well together. If I try it with the fried ice-cream i will let you know what its like :thumbsup2

To Make A Holiday Practically Perfect You Need To Have A Perfect Plan
Fun, Fun, Fun ~ Pt. 2

Since you know what tours, shows and interactions we are planning to do this time, I thought I would just let you know what we have already done in the past. Again I have written briefly about each experience:

---------------

Trip 1
July 1998 ~ Only me

None :sad2:

---------------

Trip 2
January 2005 ~ Only me

Interactions

Discovery Cove ~ Our first visit to the most amazing place on earth (along with Disney of course), and a total surprise for Sophie who loves animals and dolphins. She was so amazed when we arrived, she loved seeing the dolphins up close and loved snorkeling with all the tropical fish. Sophie still didn't know we were actually swimming with the dolphins until we went for the talk before our interaction, the look on her face is one of the most amazing memories I have. Only Sophie and I did the dolphin swim this time (our first ever) and loved it so much, it was such an amazing experience and so great to be sharing it with my baby sister.

Tours

Everglades and Naples Tour ~ This tour was booked in advance through our TA in the UK. We were taken by coach to Billy Swamp in Everglades and en-route given breakfast bags and told about the different areas we passed. Billy Swamp is an area of the everglades, down near Miami, and is a small park with a few native animal enclosures, a boardwalk over the swamps, a cafe, shop, and then 2 tours. We first did the Swamp buggy tour (which was an additional $10/person), a big truck that took us into the (dry) swamp areas and taught us all about the plants, the history of the everglades, the native tribes, and the wildlife. We were visited by some rather playful ostriches and also saw bison, buffalo and wild boar. After the swamp buggy we went straight over to our airboat tour which was included. This was a 30 minute tour where we got to see lots of aligators and was great fun. We then got some free time in which we had lunch in the cafe ($10 lunch voucher included), and walked round the boardwalk where we saw aligators and the chickee huts the Indian's used to live in. We then drove on to Naple's where we took a boat ride around the bay. We were given soda and got to see dolphins and watch the sun set. Then it was a long drive back to Orlando (stopping for tea en-route, not included).
It was a very good tour and was well worth the money (about £40/person). The transportation, breakfast, lunch, airboat tour, entrance to Billy Swamp and Naple boat ride (including drinks) was all included. It was a really good way to see more of Florida, and 2 quite different, yet lovely places.

Shows

La Nouba ~ Our first ever experience of seeing this, or any other Cirque du Soleil show. My Mum was a bit apprehensive but after the rest of us persuading her we booked tickets. I was expecting a lot from the show and it didn't disappoint. It was amazing, even better than I thought, and we all loved it. From that point on I was an official Cirque fan.

Dine With Shamu (SeaWorld)~ Sophie always loved Free Willie and could not wait to see a whale up close, she was more excited about going to SeaWorld than anything. So after seeing the killer whale show and her falling in love with them big time (she decided at this point she wants to become a killer whale trainer and 4 years later still wants to be), we decided to book this as a surprise for her. We all loved the whole experience, the buffet was so good and we got to learn about how they train the whales and see them up really close.

disney05f061.jpg

Arabian Nights Dinner Show ~ This was our first dinner show experience and we choose this one as Sophie loves horses. The show itself was really good and included some comedy, stunts and a fairytale-like story involving lots of horses, as well as a nice meal and drinks. We all really enjoyed it, especially Sophie being a horse lover.

Trip 3
July/August 2006 ~ Nick and I

Interactions

Discovery Cove ~ Our second visit to this magical place. We visited on my 21st birthday and I can't think of anywhere I would rather have spent it. This time Mum and Dad joined us in the dolphin swim (Nick choose not to as we had already done one in Cuba), which was amazing again, not just for what it was but for the fact this was Mum and Dad's first interaction, and they loved it. They had also booked the birthday package as a surprise for me so the dolphin brought me a happy birthday bouy and sang to me, I was given a gift bag with a t.shirt and underwater camera, I got a photo and dvd of our interaction, a reserved table for lunch and a gorgeous cake. It was one of the best days of my life.

ap11.jpg

ba1.jpg

Serengeti Safari (Busch Gardens) ~ We booked this as a surprise for our little animal lover Sophie. She loves giraffes loads so when I read about this tour I knew it would be perfect. We were taken on the back of a flat-bed truck out into the Serengeti where our guide gave us lots of information about giraffes and the other animals out there. We then got to spend some time feeding and touching the giraffes and it was such an amazing experience. After the giraffes we were taken to feed some of the other animals too. Our guide was so funny and kept us all entertained and also very informative. We all loved this and would definitely do it again.

DSC03191.jpg

---------------

Shows

La Nouba ~ Our second time seeing this show (Nicks first) and this time we loved it even more. Its great to see it multiple times as there is so much to see you sometimes miss things the first and even second time around.

q6.jpg

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede Dinner Show ~ We went to see this for Dad's birthday and loved it. The show started with a little pre-show in the carriage room which involved a really funny and entertaining act. The food was really good and beer and wine was included. The show is about rivalry between the North and South and includes a little storyline with songs and team competitions including ostrich and hobby horse racing. It was so much fun with lots of audience participation, and a very patriotic ending hosted by Dolly herself (not actually in person). Its such a shame they have closed it down, it was so entertaining.

58q.jpg

Pirates Adventure Dinner Show ~ We thought this looked like fun so decided to give it a go. There was some buffet stations to start but the queues were huge and the food was average. There was then a pre-show to set the story for the rest of the show but the room was very small and hot with no seats and long queues for drinks. After an hour the show started and was based around a princess and some pirates. The story was very hard to follow, there was a lot of fighting and swinging around, a few songs and a bit of dancing. The food was pretty average too and the service was pretty poor. This is one we wouldn't go back to or recommend unless you have kids that love pirates a lot.

pir4.jpg

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show ~ We loved the look of this so booked it for after DC on my 21st birthday. We had the perfect table, front and center, and despite the rain and lightening the show went ahead. The show was about a woman revisiting her Polynesian route through a series of dances from the different Polynesian islands. Along with the dancing there was a great band, singing and a fire dancer. The food was delicious and plentiful. We all thoroughly enjoyed this show.

DSC02370.jpg

Dine With Shamu ~ Since we all loved it so much last time we decided to go back again for Sophie's birthday. It was another great experience, especially since this time alcoholic drinks were included too. The service was great, our table was perfect, ringside and right in the middle, and Sophie was given a cake as our server announced "that although every child at SeaWorld was special, today Sophie was extra special because it was her birthday", she felt so special.

DSC02956-2.jpg

DSC02961-1.jpg

---------------

We spent a week in Miami after our 3 weeks in Florida and did some additional tours:
- Bahama's Cruise
- Miami Tour - Driving and boat tour learning about the history and districts of Miami and a close up view of the stars homes
- Self drive to the Florida Keys
- Self Drive to Billy Swamp in the everglades for another swamp buggy and airboat tour

~ I would recommend any of these tours or excursions if you get time. We got to see different parts of Florida and learn all about the area.

---------------

Trip 4
April/May 2008 ~ Nick and I

Interactions

Discovery Cove ~ This place never loses its charm or power to amaze us in every possible way.

IMG_0018.jpg

Shark Dive (SeaWorld) ~ Nick and I love the water and are fascinated by marine life so the chance to do this was great. We started the tour by being taken backstage to a classroom area where we were told all about the tour, the helmets and gear we would be wearing, the tank we would be in, and of course about the sharks. We were then fitted with wetsuits and gear and taken to the backstage area of the shark tank. We entered the nursery pool, were fitted with helmets and then entered the tank. The tank took us along a line through the shark tank, and then back again, in which time we had close encounters with sharks, sawfish and other fish. It was an amazing experience, one I would highly recommend. Afterwards we were given t.****s and booklets about sharks, and some water. The whole experience was great and Seaworld made sure that we felt comfortable at all times, and were very informative.

---------------

Tours

Crystal River Manatee Swim ~ I thought this tour looked really interesting, so after gently persuading Nick who was pretty scared about the whole thing, we booked it. We were picked up and taken in a bus to the Crystal River and en-route given breakfast bags. Once we arrived at the Crystal River we were given wetsuits and masks and then taken down to the river. Our knowledgeable guide then took us out by boat looking for Manatee's and once we found them we spent time snorkeling and interacting with them. After a while we were taken back where we got changed and headed down to the river for lunch (which was included). Then we were taken to Homassassa State Park where we got a few hours to look around the exhibits of native wildlife (and a hippo), which was very nice and relaxing. We were then taken back to Orlando.
Another great tour but I would only recommend it if you want to interact with manatee's and are comfortable in the water.

IMG_0149.jpg

Hot air balloon ride ~ I have always wanted to try a hot air balloon ride and being able to see Orlando from above sounded great. We met our guides and were taken out to find the perfect site and after helping to set the balloon up we were off. We flew over trees to begin and then over orange groves and villa and housing complexes towards Disney. The flight was amazing, it was such a great experience and you didn't notice the height much at all. After the flight we had a champagne toast and went for a buffet breakfast.
It was a great experience and since it started early it didn't take up much of the day. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and can't wait to do another balloon ride elsewhere.

DSC03705.jpg

Around the World at Epcot, Segway Tour ~ Nick was desperate to try a segway tour and this one looked really good. After meeting our guides we were taken for some segway training. We then followed our guides around the World Showcase learning facts and information about each country and stopping to get photo's. The tour lasted about 2 hours and was both fun and insightful. A definite one to try.

DSC02355.jpg

---------------

Shows

La Nouba ~ Amazing again.

The Blue Man Group ~ Since we love Cirque we thought we would try this and I booked it as a surprise for Nick. The show is so hard to explain, so I wont really try, other than to say it includes amazing music, comedy, and entertainment, without one word being said.

Makahiki Dinner Show (SeaWorld) ~ A polynesian dinner show based around dancing, including some singing and fire dancing. The food was ok, but nothing special, and the show itself was good but nothing compared to the Disney one.

DSC01517.jpg

Hoop dee doo Musical Revue Dinner Show ~ Set inside of a hall instead of theater with individual tables. The show was based around 6 characters who performed an old-fashioned music review whilst adding in some witty banter between themselves. It was really good and funny with really catchy songs and some good dancing. The food was delicious and plentiful and served in buckets which added to the entertainment. Beer and sangria were also included.
I would recommend this to anyone and will definitely be doing it again in the future.

So these are the tours, interactions and shows we have already done. By and large we have enjoyed them all and have got to see and do some pretty amazing things :cloud9:. Thats what I love about Florida, it doesn't just stop at the parks, there is so much more. And I can't wait until our next Adventure begins so we can get to experience some more of it :goodvibes

I'm amazed by how much you get to do on each trip. Everything looked great!

I'm amazed by how much you get to do on each trip. Everything looked great!

I know, looking back I always think, "how the hell did we manage to do all that". Even when we went for 4 weeks we didn't stop. No joke we had two rest days in the whole of that time but even on those we were busy. For one we were at DTD by 8am for the welcome meeting ad then spent the day there shopping, hiring a boat, getting lunch at Rainforest and then to Walmart shopping and out for tea, so not restful at all. The second we spent by POFQ pool and then on to DTD for La Nouba and tea, a bit more relaxing but we had so much to do like write postcards, do laundry, do some packing. Our week in Miami after WDW was suppose to be relaxing after all our Disney fun but we ended up doing something every day then too, a different tour or excursion... we never stopped

IT'S SUCH A SHAME YOU GUYS DON'T REALLY KNOW HOW TO HAVE ANY FUN!!
:lmao:

Thanks for sharing. Have you tried Medieval Times yet? It's also fun.

No I haven't really heard much about that one. I will definitely look into it for next time :thumbsup2

Wow, everything looks wonderful! You will be busy busy busy~! LOL, don't forget about your breaks...lol. I remember you had some of those scheduled in there.

Breaks are my favorite time of the trip :cloud9: lol

Really though, sounds great! This is going to be a terrific trip!

I'm glad you enjoyed HDD so much. I was a bit hesident at first...lol, doesn't seem like such a 'honeymoon' dinner. It seems like just the thing for Steve and me though. We are eating at plenty of places with wonderful food. We want the show ! lol I've heard so many wonderful thing about it! HDD is our treat :)
