Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

No the cars barely rocked. It was faster than I thought but very short!

Thanks. How does it compare to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?

Unless I get another job, I won't be going in September now. I don't see me getting one, because I don't see me getting one as flexible as working for my friend. Then again, as much as she took advantage of me, I'm not really sure if she was the friend I thought she was.

ETA....I'm thinking if I move the trip to December, I could still go. Plus we could go to MVMCP!!!

ok, due to my friend's schedule, December isn't an option. It's looking like January is a better time. Have any of y'all gone marathon weekend? I want to go that weekend, because it's my birthday weekend.

Just checking in to say Good Morning Ladies! No changes here, (so we'll see you in the lounge Sue M :goodvibes ), but we did purchase tickets for the Villains Unleashed event on 8/23/14!!! I am super excited about that as we are all big fans of the villains! :banana:

Hope everyone is doing well. :goodvibes

The track is smooth like EE. It does not have the hills as deep as BTR. It was similar most to Barnstormer except smoother and a little faster.

It appeared to have many young and elderly on it without any problems.

I repeat it is short! Compared to other rides it was just so quick!

We did enjoy it though. I preferred the night vs day. The night felt faster(cause dark) so if concerned do in daylight.:thumbsup2

OOH that looks fun! Hey my MOM wants me to take her to Disney in December for Christmas lights.

I think GF SL will be good. I am expecting some good reviews of the new lounge, please and thank you. :goodvibes

My mom has only stayed on property once at CSR. I think after trying cr, poly and gf cl's gf is the winner.:thumbsup2

We have enjoyed cr and poly. The lounges have great views and cms friendly but really it is the food that matters for my mom so .... gf it will be.

Cool, then it sounds like I should be able to handle it.

Well, our trip has officially been moved. I made a deal with the devil (aka the hubby) and in return, he will pay for my girls only trip. I will fly into Atlanta on January 9th. We'll drive overnight to WDW and arrive early in the morning on January 10th, which happens to be my birthday. Then we'll check out of WDW on the 14th and drive back to my friend's house. I'll fly from Atlanta on the 15th. So, the new dates are 1/10-14/15, but we don't know where we are staying yet.

JM's birthday is on the 8th, so we'll celebrate the weekend before and the day of. I'm just surprised that the DH is ok with me being gone on my birthday. Then again, he knows how badly I want to go to WDW on my birthday.

Thank you. :hug:

I have to get the ok from my friend, but what I would love to do is spend most of my birthday at Epcot. Have dinner around 5, and when we are done, head to the MK for fireworks.

So DH found out I'd switched the first part of the trip without telling him...not sure why it really mattered, but yeah he wasn't thrilled that I'd made yet another change...oh well. :-)

Now if only I could figure out ADRs and stop changing park days and such...LOL.

I am actually rethinking going to Downtown Disney after our AK day...trying to NOT spend so much on souvenirs, clothes, etc. :-)

Oh well, as one of my favorite teachers used to say, "He can get over it just as quickly as he got upset about it."

I hope you are able to get the park days and ADRs figured out.

We have to start our planning all over. My friend is driving home from WDW today, and she'll be able to look at some options I sent her this week. We may end up staying at the Shades of Green, which is fine with me. Going on this trip with her will be the only way I will be able to stay there, and I would really love to eventually stay at all of the mods and deluxes.

That sounds like fun! Hope you all have a good time! :banana:

Your plans look great. We did the 1900 at dinner, those stepsisters are hilarious!
It's hard managing everyone's expectations for sure! Maybe a family meeting with all those going may help. I think starting the day together, and doing some headliners together is a great idea. Then re-grouping later. And presumably everyone has cell phones and can text if they want to find you to meet up.

TY! This is exactly what I needed to be reassured about. I just don't get the pack mentality... esp when we have such varied groups. My one SIL wouldn't even do a park except tix come with FD package. I love that my MIL wants family time but I also think more than a few hours a day would cause mass stress. The other kids and I have been in touch and we all are on the same page, so that helps.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! We're just hanging out watching WWII documentaries on our DVR. Yes, we're nerds at heart! Hope everyone has a great start to the week! :goodvibes

Not a nerd! DD6 keeps freaking her teachers out because she loves non-fiction books and is really into the Civil and Revolutionary Wars right now. In fact, we drove near Dr Mudd's house and where John Wilkes Booth was killed yesterday and she went on and on and on with theories about how he made it from point A to B. We plan on taking her to Gettysburg and Manassas before we move and she wants to lay a wreath at the WWII memorial in DC on the anniversary of my grandfather's passing. I love that she's a history buff but it's hard to find reading material for a 6 year old on those topics!!!

Thanks y'all. :grouphug: I recounted last night, and without any drop-ins coming, we'll have 16 kids. She keeps thinking that since it's mostly "during nap time", it's ok. The thing is, I still have to get lunch for all those kids. She, for some reason, doesn't understand me having a problem with it.

ok, due to my friend's schedule, December isn't an option. It's looking like January is a better time. Have any of y'all gone marathon weekend? I want to go that weekend, because it's my birthday weekend.

I HATED that the center I worked at would let the first teacher take their lunch as we got the kids ready for their lunch. Lunch and diapers is a 5 person job... esp if you have to feed or help feed!!!

Marathon weekend seems to have a ripple effect on crowds: you notice a bit of an upkick but it's limited and mostly out of park. My friend runs the marathon in Jan each year and she said the parks are pretty manageable save for after the race and the next day - most runners aren't touring too much the day before and save it for the day after but then head home.

OOOH, I would LOVE VU! Part of why we're going in Sept is so I can get my evil on! I hope you have a blast and PLEASE take lots of pics!!!

Fun trip! I love trips like that!!! That's how I got to WWoHP!!! My mom just said one day "I want to see Harry Potter Land" and we planned a 4 day trip to Orlando. Did IoA and Sea World with my folks and DD (4 at the time) and waved to Mr Mouse. So relaxed and def no pressure to do it all! New ticker???

Oh well, as one of my favorite teachers used to say, "He can get over it just as quickly as he got upset about it."

Shades is nice but def not themed the way any of the Disney hotels are or even some of the near Disney hotels. Other than Salute Mickey in the lobby, it's very subtle. Honestly, were it not for the fantabulous rate we got at WL for Sept, we'd be at Shades. The food is only 'eh' but it's more incentive to head out. And the walk to the Poly makes all the monorail resorts and parks that much closer. Just watch for Alli Gator - he keeps to himself but sometimes likes to sun himself near the water hazards of the Magnolia and Palm courses.
One of the super perks you can get is if your friend can score military tickets... those can save tons! Next set of options hasn't been released yet but even just the regular tix with military discount are a savings! :goodvibes

~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~
Yesterday was totally exhausting but super rewarding!!! I met the one other DISer at Kings Dominion and we palled around all day - super neat to have an almost instant connection with someone. All told, all of the participants at our park raised over $31k for GKTW:thumbsup2!!! Super awesome!!! DD6 was a monster and rode all the coasters she could over and over and over! Good time but soooo tired!
This is a crazy week in our house: last week of school, class party for DD (summer birthday), dress rehearsal for dance (she has 2 routines), DD's actual party, ILs arrive (nuff said), and then recital!!! Oh, and DD~1 starts early intervention services - nothing major but she's a little delayed in speech and the state provides free services so we're just making sure there's no underlying issues. She actually started saying "hi!" and waving to all the people on the coasters as she watched yesterday (so stinkin' cute!) and she's almost got 'dada'.
Hope all is well! Believe it or not, I haven't had a chance to even think about changing lately... though I have my little chart of Christmas ADRs up on my desktop and am now looking at it debating adding a lunch on our MK day at a resort... Hmmmm....:rolleyes1
*HUGS* to all! :hug:
Luckily, only 7 of them are in diapers. Now that school is out, 2 of the kids are school aged. A 4 year old isn't going to go home and tell their parents it was just one adult to a bunch of kids. Those elementary age kids just may do that.
I'm sure, even with the marathon, the crowds won't be as bad as June crowds.
omg, I am never ever going out for ice cream at Sonic. I was making a turn on the road that runs in front of our house. I looked, and as far as I could see down the road, there was nothing. A little bit down the road there is a hill, so I couldn't see if something was coming up the hill. Right after making the turn, I hear a noise and look in my rear view mirror. I see a red car, fishtailing, with tons of smoke coming out of the back of the car. It end up running off the road, hitting an electric pole, and taking out a lot of a fence that has just recently been fixed from the last person that ran into it. The kid driving takes off running, but when he turned to look, and saw me on the phone, came running back. He could hear what I was saying, because I had my window rolled down. He starts running at my car flipping me off, and calling me a 4 letter word that starts with c and rhymes with runt. A city police officer got to the scene pretty quickly, but we technically weren't in the city limits. We had to wait for a state trooper to arrive. When he did, he measured the skid mark and said there was just over 300 feet of skid, I just can't remember the exact amount. The trooper said that without another trooper and specific equipment they couldn't measure his exact speed, but only his minimum possible speed. He was at least going 77-83 mph. The city officer said that if he had even clipped me, I would be having a lot different night. I wouldn't have been near as freaked if both of my boys hadn't been in the car with me.
dimndgal your welcome! I don't understand how moving in unison with 11 people could work!! Nothing wrong with parting for some of the day!
I go with my adult daughter and a good friend. We pretty much like the same things, but I'm the only one who likes ToT, lol so we split up. Same with other things. We aren't tied to the hip. If someone wants to do something else, they do it. Easy to re connect with cell phones!
I'm sure it will all work out. MIL has to understand it's your vacay too!!
Wookie congrats on the new trip. Jan 9 is my younger daughters birthday! She'll be 25 :faint: next one! Yikes. I'll be in wdw next January, but later in the month! Not sure where we will be either! Maybe POR. Will have to see the deals.
:rotfl: he should know better by now!!!
Quick question for all you knowledgeable ladies. :-)
If we are getting 2 sets of bands for our split stay, do we take all 8 with us? Or would we really only need one per person?
Sent from my iPad using DISBoards
One band rules them all :upsidedow
Last Aug we did a 3 resort split. They were still in testing phase but 2 of our resorts were in the test, our 1st (Pop) and our last (YC). We got our MB at Pop check in ( they don't mail out of country) but it worked at GF, then again worked at YC.
I did order 2 sets of MBs, for Pop and YC, but never got bands at YC :confused3 and never thought to ask. It was all so new.
This trip we ordered 3 sets of MBs, one set for our SL stay at GF, then we move to a regular GF non CL room, so ordered another set, then they had that special MB for AP holders with the slider. Gotta have that :rotfl:
So now I'll have every colour, except the yucky grey! I can colour coordinate with my clothing lol!
Ladies, I finally have my vacation in tract and all planned and booked, well for the most part. We decided to spend the day before the cruise at Epcot, yay!!! I was actually able to call the airline and have them put us on an earlier flight, thank goodness!!!! Although, when I say earlier, I mean we have to be at the airport at 5 am, and I am NOT a morning person, haha. Good thing is, the airport is only 10 miles from our house!! But, we arrive in Orlando at noon, woohoo!!! Epcot is open until midnight that Friday so it will be a LONG day, but who cares, we're at WDW right??? We'll be staying at AKL for the first time so I'm really excited about that!!!
First, AHHHH! So glad you're okay! I absolutely hate moments like that... it ruins me for the day! One time when DH was deployed and DD was only 6 or 7 months, I was driving back and some jerk ran me off the road and I almost hit the side of the girder for an upcoming tunnel. I stopped inches from the cement, terrifying thoughts running through my head. Another driver pulled over and helped me and another one chased after the guy who cut me off and got his plate. He was cited for reckless driving but it took me awhile to get over the shakes. I'm so glad you missed that self centered jerk!!!
You are right about the kiddos being able to say what's going on... that does seem to change things. I saw a teacher fired because she was in a room of 12-18 month olds and kept texting on her phone. A little girl climbed on a chair and fell and another child said "Ms. X was on her phone and (child) falled down."... the teacher never thought a kid that young would be able to snitch.
No rest for the weary!!! It would help if we weren't already dancing with the 90s but at least it waited until June for the humidity to kick in. One bright spot is DH is planning a night in Baltimore for just the two of us next month - there's a squadron function up that way, so we'll drop LO off at my folks (DD6 will be with his parents out west), and get a night in my fave city!!! YAY!
dimndgal your welcome! I don't understand how moving in unison with 11 people could work!! Nothing wrong with parting for some of the day!
I'm sure it will all work out. MIL has to understand it's your vacay too!!
The problem is everyone agrees we need to do something different this Christmas - last Christmas was really hard b/c it was 1st since nephew passed and we don't want to just sit around and dwell. The problem is MIL is a traditionalist so I think she wants a traditional, family Christmas but with a different backdrop and ALL the kids feel that if we're just going to do traditional, there's no point spending the thousands of dollars to do Disney. She is also very passive/aggressive so all I get for feedback is "fine"... "ok"... "if that's what you all want". DH has shirked out of dealings with her before but when they get here this weekend, I told him that it is HIS job to get her to commit to something or else I'm booking blindly and she can complain to him. We'll see how it goes!
I know, right?? :-)
It's funny your DH was up in arms with a change... mine keeps asking me what's wrong because I haven't changed in so long! Of course, he doesn't know about all the times I plug in different scenarios online. And, truthfully, I'm preoccupied with ADRs for Dec... once those are nailed down it's DP+ time for Sept! AHHHHHHH!!!!
~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~
Today went well considering all the running around I did! When I ordered 'Frozen' cupcakes for DD's class, I didn't account for the blue icing... lots of lizard tongues going home today! Oops!

Tomorrow LO starts early intervention services through the county. She's behind in speech (she has almost no 'hard' sounds) but she is communicating well (some signs and pointing) and has receptive language so they want to make sure she's not having some issue with her tongue. She had similar problems in the NICU - her tongue was impeding suck/swallow/breathe - so this was expected. I was thrilled this weekend when she started using "hi" correctly and yesterday she started calling for 'tata' (dada). It's positive that she is able to communicate and I know it will just take some time to get the sounds down.

Also, not sure if you all remember, but we put DD6 on ADD meds back in Dec and after some tweaking I think we've hit the right dose/timing. She is a ROCK STAR at school - she has only been in trouble 3 times since Feb (minor kid things) and she's starting to work better with groups. She is also able to sit down and focus on chapter books so her reading has skyrocketed (she's finishing first grade and is on a 2.7 level) so I am SOOOOO glad we went ahead and did the meds. Her self esteem is so much higher (sometimes too high) and she's doing so much better socially!!! :goodvibes

Hope everyone is well!!! Amazed we haven't seen many ch-ch-changes lately!!!!:eek:

Thank you, it was really scary. It wouldn't have been as bad if the boys hadn't been with me. I can get a copy of the police report in 10 days, so I'm going to get one. I want to see how fast he was really going.

It wasn't just the thought of being told on. 16 is just way too many kids, even if a portion of the time they are sleeping.

Well, I have some changes. I think I jumped the gun on joining all the January threads and groups. We have changed both our dates and our resorts and these will not change, unless we can't get the resort we have booked with the military discount when it comes out. The new dates and resorts are 12/1-12/5/14 WL: Courtyard View.
