Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

I would change to the Plaza for dinner as well. If it can be helped, I would rather not leave a park to go to a resort for dinner. You just lose so much more park time doing it that way.

I am thinking about spending the night the night before I fly to Atlanta in a hotel inside one of the DFW area terminals. The flight I want to get, departs DFW at 7 AM, and we live about an hour from the airport. I haven't flown in ages. Do they still suggest you getting to the airport 2 hours before your flight, or will I be ok with just getting there and hour before the flight since it is so early? I just hate making my DH to get up that early to take me to the airport and then having to work that day. I'm not sure if I'll stay at the hotel by myself, of if the DH will stay with me. Then again, since it's in an airport terminal, he may not be able to since he's not flying.

Yeah, but as Mum pointed out, we will probably want a break from being in the park from the early morning to late at night. There's nothing stopping us from going back to our resort in the afternoon to rest and swim though. I much prefer the Plaza's menu and really doubt we would want two heavy meals in one day anyway.

I would stay overnight. So much more piece of mind knowing you're already there and makes for a much more relaxing travel day. Plus it saves your DH a very early morning trip.

Happy Saturday Morning:surfweb:

Hope everyone is doing well! I'm pages behind:upsidedow Been crazy busy this week and haven't had much Distime - hate when that happens! Super nasty rainy day here in south Georgia. Guess that means it's time to do some Disney planning....

Too bad we aren't here today, basking in the Florida Sun and enjoying beautiful Bay Lake.....

Candance.... love that new ticker!!!! Did you see mine?? :rolleyes1 We're doing the Dream again, two months after y'all! Know you are super excited. Love that you put the cruise right in the middle. Have you done the Poly, yet?? Awesome place!!!

Jen....I totally agree with Pas - None of their business:thumbsup2 Enjoy counting down those days! So close, so close!!! You're going to have a fabulous trip for sure. I'm very excited for y'all :teeth:

dimngal1....sorry about the confusion with the trip. What a pain!? A cruise would be an excellent choice!!!!

gwynne....was noticing your avatar, name, etc. and the "Trip planning is half the fun!" How right are you?!! Love it! That really is part of my fun for real....crazy at it may sound. I especially love the part of "adding" things to the trip:laughing:

Pixar.... :woohoo: for the Princess Half!!!! Good luck!! No worries about your resort choice. It will be fantastic to say the least!

Sparkly....so close!!!!! Have fun!!!!! :cool1:

Sue....how was the trip????? Fabulous???? ::yes::

Janet, Wookie, Pas... Howdy  Are y'all staying warm???

Who did I miss??? Hugs to everyone:goodvibes and Happy Saturday!

Heather

Awwww, too bad we won't be on the same sailing!! :upsidedow

We are super excited about our vacation plans! I can't believe I have to make ADR's in 1 week!! I am actually going to let IPO do it for me this time, which I've never done before. A little nervous about that :scared: we are planning on 7 TS over the 11 day trip. :goodvibes

I am waiting for my neighbor to come and pick up her daughter who slept over last night with youngest DD, and then I have to pick up older dd from a sleepover with her bball team.

This is the second weekend in a row involving sleepovers...all done!!! :crazy2:

Hi from the airport hotel- Mum upgraded us to get access to the concerge lounge and we can have free snacks and drinks and breakfast tomorrow.

When we stayed PolyCL, the IPO did EVERYTHING for us....it was super easy and they got all of our ressies. For our June trip, our TA did everything. Again...super easy. I wasn't sure how I would like it (I'm a bit of a control freak :rolleyes1) but it has been wonderful. Take a deep breath, Candance:laughing:....it will be fine! ::yes::

You only stress about things you care about. You stress about a Disney trip, because you want to make it as magical and memorable as you can for all involved.

YES! I couldn't articulate why I was so frustrated but that is exactly it! It took DH a few trips to understand that for my, a great trip = happy family = best feeling ever!!!

For DFW, I would get there early but DH says 1.5 hrs should be plenty. (he spent a bunch of time back and forth to Dallas over the last year). Early flights can actually mean longer security lines because so many flights take off within a short window, but he thinks you'll be fine with an hour and a half. I've found it better to give myself more time and sit and enjoy breakfast after security than to feel rushed because security is insane... but I also fly out of DC a lot which can be hit or miss with security lines.

Hiya Heather  I've made a change yesterday....from GF to YC  It was all about the math AND really not liking the décor. I just feels so UN-Disney...IDK...it's me

They really are sweeties, it's no wonder our Sarah was such a big part of the thread (and still is) I changed, not because I fell out of love but because I want to remember the rooms they way they were....Memories....
You can contact the agency-banned-from-the DIS and they can take over the reservation, switching it to the special discount...easy peasy. :thumbsup2

and  Thanks for the MickeyBar..this group is AWESOME :grouphug:

We loved YC when we were there June '12... but it was also our first dip into deluxe. Would go back in a heartbeat if WL wasn't so much cheaper and worked better for our group!!!

And I will always share Mickey bars with this group! You all are great!!! :grouphug:

I understand how you feel! My friend at WDW right now had her TA make all the ADRs. When I asked what ADRs she had she said "I'm not sure"... it just sort of threw me off! She's such a planner but for her as long as there WERE plans, she was content. For me, I'd be too busy stressing over if they were the BEST possible plans.

SAFE TRAVELS!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------
So, Japan is looking more like a real possibility! Our backups are San Diego and Tampa... so I'm happy as a clam no matter what -- easy access to the mouse wherever!!! :earsgirl: DH, of course, didn't even see that when he listed the choices and I (of course) immediately thought that!

With the ILs trip, DH and I reached a conclusion: it has to be over Christmas break (so there's no last minute 'no, wait, I can't take that day off') and it's going to be simple. We'll have the family fly in Saturday and spend 2-3 nights at Disney. If there is a Christmas party that Sunday (right now the various websites disagree on the likelihood), we'll do that. If not, we'll do two park days and just take in CHRISTMAS. We'll try to grab the 3 FP+ rides we can each day but otherwise will walk the countries, see Osborne lights, and scope MK. I had debated trying to have the adults do the Yuletide Tour while I watch the 3 kiddos (DH and I did it years ago and enjoyed the experience and it's a great overview of holidays in the parks) but I think they would enjoy the Osborne Lights and touring the countries slower... plus, the tour itself is the cost of a day ticket so might as well chance getting a few rides in! Anyway, after 3 days at Disney, we'll head over to family on the gulf coast and spend the actual holiday at the beach - or at the heated pool of the family!!! :) We feel like it's a better value and will avoid a lot of the grumblings from family about the crowds.

GOOD LUCK to all the people amping up for the Princess Half! You're rock stars!!! :dance3: OH - and my friend at Disney now had the best day: her two girls got to ride the magic carpets with Jasmine and Aladdin! AWEEESOME! AND, she was so excited she texted me because she knew it would make my day... and it did! :woohoo:

Dimndgal1 - so awesome about the ride with Jasmine and Aladdin! How'd they manage that?

:confused3 I haven't been able to really talk to her (our husbands limited us to 4 texts a day because we're such Disney gushers!!!) but I did ensure she got pics. She said the photopass photog at the M&G even took some pics for them, too! :woohoo: Jasmine is her oldest DD's fave so I can only imagine how the girls (7, 5) reacted! :dance3: Stories like that get me through the Disney droughts!

Totally random - I was working on our Sep trip ((SERIOUSLY, where are the park hours!!!)) and was wondering if anyone has found it worthwhile to book an off-season trip with a TA? I already have a military discount for the room but I have seen some great rates floating around and wasn't sure if it was worth touching base with a TA to see if they could secure something even better? thoughts?

Ummm...so how crazy am I?? I was actually pricing out our July dates at other resorts to see if I could find something cheaper...

If I could watch the Olympics while being there, I would totally love to be on that beach.

I'm going to blame this over week long migraine, but I am just so confused. PM me some info about the agency-that-shall-not-be-named, and who I need to talk to.

Very true

The thing that stinks though, if your trip is perfect and super magical, they never recognize it was due to your hard work before the trip. However, if one little thing were off about the trip, you would never hear the end of it.

Thanks. It has just been so long since I have flown, and I have never flown by myself. It wouldn't bother me getting their so early if the DH could hand out in the terminal with me.

I can't remember if you have said, if y'all end up in Japan how long will you be there? The reason I ask is because the 2020 Summer Olympics will be in Tokyo.

Ummm...so how crazy am I?? I was actually pricing out our July dates at other resorts to see if I could find something cheaper...

If you are crazy for that, then I am crazy insane. I prized out different resort options last night/ today. I did a total of 30 resort/room category combos.

I assume the agency that must not be named is someone who got a thumbs down from the DIS? And, I understand your frustration and hope you find what you're looking for!

The thing that stinks though, if your trip is perfect and super magical, they never recognize it was due to your hard work before the trip. However, if one little thing were off about the trip, you would never hear the end of it.

VERY TRUE! *sighs* One reason I prefer going with my immediate family!!! The only reason I'm not worried about bringing friend on next trip is she's known DH and I since our inception and she's already done the hard-to-get stuff at Disney so she's thrilled just to enjoy the ride!

Thanks. It has just been so long since I have flown, and I have never flown by myself. It wouldn't bother me getting their so early if the DH could hand out in the terminal with me.

No worries - I hate that DH travels so much but it's great for learning the airports and for earning air/hotel miles! We're going to Bush Gardens with my folks in May for a steal (free military tix and HH Points!). Weekends like that are what I hold on to when I have to wear the solo hat!... that and my Disney trips!

I can't remember if you have said, if y'all end up in Japan how long will you be there? The reason I ask is because the 2020 Summer Olympics will be in Tokyo.

We would be gone by then, thankfully! I visited Atlanta just before the games there and it's wild... I can't imagine how crazy Tokyo would be since it's already busy!!! However, we would be in Japan for the winter games in Korea, which might be fun - I love curling!!!

If you are crazy for that, then I am crazy insane. I prized out different resort options last night/ today. I did a total of 30 resort/room category combos.

Kohl I often like to throw some scenarios out... and in the last two weeks have just about called about some of them. I just can't find anything that quite fits the bill as well.

Thank you, I'm sure we will. The one good thing about WDW, is there are so many great resort options.

This is my first time to travel with non immediate family. Because of that, we have been doing a lot of talking about trip details, and have already covered things like when we like to shower.

My WDW girls trip is what is keeping me sane for sure. Especially since we may have to cancel our Yellowstone trip, so that money can go to helping his parents with different taxes.

That stinks. Going to an Olympics and the opening ceremony is on my bucket list. I would love to go to the one in Japan. I love watching curling as well. It's too bad we didn't have enough of us RCer's close enough that we could have our own curling team. Even if I could ever talk my DH into taking me to an Olympics, there is no way he would take me to the one in Korea. His brother was stationed there right out of boot camp and he had nothing good to say about his time there.

Kohl I often like to throw some scenarios out... and in the last two weeks have just about called about some of them. I just can't find anything that quite fits the bill as well.

I think why I have so many different pricing options, is that I still don't know what the resort budget is. The DH is being a pain and is insisting that the only resort in the budget is the Pop Century.

Ok, I am one week away from ADR time and NOW am wavering about my resort choice!!!! :crazy2:

I am now thinking about AKL CL again, for a few reasons. I'll try to lay them out.

1) Cost - If I switched to AKL, my resort portion would be paid off already. DONE!!! :cool1:

2) Now that we are 99% sure that Poly will be a go (along with BWI in April), our monorail wishes will be complete at the resort we really want to stay at, so GF isn't neccessary??? :confused3

3) Since the 2015 trip is pretty certain, again, the AP's will come into play because we will still have about 6-7 more days in the park with that trip. It makes the AP's worthwhile again, and with the cost being lowered by staying
AKL CL, it more than covers the cost difference between 10 day hoppers and AP's.

4) According to my plans, we already will have a Sunday at AK during our August trip. The Sunrise Safari is only done on Sundays and Thursdays so it would fit perfectly....a sign perhaps??? :scratchin

Ok, all powerful RC ladies....WWYD??? Talk me through this Monday morning conundrum! :goodvibes

Thank you, I'm sure we will. The one good thing about WDW, is there are so many great resort options.

The double-edged sword of us RCers! :lmao:

This is my first time to travel with non immediate family. Because of that, we have been doing a lot of talking about trip details, and have already covered things like when we like to shower.

Make sure to fit time in to 'freak out when something goes wrong'! We had that issue when we used to commando tour... almost missed our Backstage Magic Tour because I hadn't taken into account the EPCOT kennel would be closed and we had to hoof it to AK to drop our pup off. (that was before central kennels) Taught me a little flexibility takes you far! :drive:

My WDW girls trip is what is keeping me sane for sure. Especially since we may have to cancel our Yellowstone trip, so that money can go to helping his parents with different taxes.
*HUGS* I hope you get to go! Yellowstone and the Tetons are ah-MAZ-ing! Let me know if you need any advice; DH's family is from that area so we frequent the mountains a lot.

I would love to see an Opening Ceremony but I just hesitate to think how much busier Tokyo will be - DH already said the trains are packed... throw an extra million tourists and :crowded:! I wish I could've made Vancouver!!! And I can only imagine how much of a party Rio will be!!! :joker:

I think why I have so many different pricing options, is that I still don't know what the resort budget is. The DH is being a pain and is insisting that the only resort in the budget is the Pop Century.

You could always do what I do: highest room category during highest season for a value... that's $230! Great baseline to wiggle from ;)

We have the Grand booked and I'm looking at mods?? What is wrong with me?? ;-)

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

*sighs* I do that all the time... I keep thinking how much we'd save. I still have a SoG rezzie for our Sep trip I can't cancel because the cost is so much lower. Once we have the $$$ for WL saved up I think I can cancel but I'm just worried some financial hiccup will happen and we'll have to cancel WL and I want the fallback... but then I feel guilty holding onto the room! :(

Oh man, I could take you either way!
Honestly, there's a lot going for AKL CL based on what you say: you already have the Sunday for the safari and you can cover the cost of APs. The Sunday thing might be a really big factor so that you don't have to consider it next time if you skip AK this trip. I also like the idea of setting yourself up well for future trips... However, you were super excited about your current set up... :scratchin

I think the big question is will you be happy with AKL or are you considering it only to 'make things work'? While it's always great to save money make sure you're doing it for the right reasons! :thumbsup2

Wookie, agree with dimndgal1, an hour and a half should be okay. Weekday early AM flights can be very busy, both with business and vacation travelers, and you are traveling at a busy time with Labor Day weekend ahead. If DH doesn't mind getting up early I'd go with getting to the airport that morning (traffic will be very light at 4:30 am (is that hour drive factoring in traffic?) and you won't have an extra hotel charge). My DH leaves very early every day so when I do have an early flight he doesn't mind. Why don't you leave the option up to DH? And he can certainly stay at the hotel with you.

Hiya Heather  I've made a change yesterday....from GF to YC  It was all about the math AND really not liking the décor. I just feels so UN-Disney...IDK...it's me

After going over the plans I slipped and told DH 5 nights at WDW, I forgot I told him 4 WHOOPS:rotfl: He's all ready for YC, but of course he thinks it will change at least 20 more times:rotfl2:

:goodvibes YAY for the Princess Half, and welcome back!! GF is in the past....what is wrong with me??? And now I am giving YC another chance. I have to say other than some snooty CL guests(who could be anywhere) the CMs at YC were absolutely exceptional. :cheer2: I knocked off $2000 from my BC CL booking,so I am hoping I stick with this one...The rooms are selling out!

I hear ya, the only reason I am glad it's not summer is I have loads more pounds to drop!!:sad2:

Pas, liking your "latest" change ... :goodvibes and saving $2K is awesome!! Just think what you could do with it (like planning another Disney trip? :upsidedow)

Hi from the airport hotel- Mum upgraded us to get access to the concerge lounge and we can have free snacks and drinks and breakfast tomorrow.

Fantastic Sparkly!! Enjoy!! :)

Agree with dimndgal1 ... both AKL and GF are fab choices (and quite different). And what is the big motivation for changing? Price? Preference? It appears from your comments that GF is third on the monorail list and with Poly in your sights for 2015, it has backing away from GF. What is your gut saying? Setting yourself for being PIF and covering APs for next April is something to really think about. What do you think the girls would like better? The Sunrise safari is very enticing!! If you go with AKL perhaps GF could be on the radar for a grils trip with those APs. :goodvibes
