Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

I know.....I visited both in October and the GF was gorgeous and became my #1 backup plan.

But the Poly......:upsidedow

I was so strong up until now

Pick the Poly! That's one of my dream resorts. :cloud9:

School is taking over all my computer time, and it stinks :coffee: On the positive side..I've lost 4 lbs. in the last two weeks, and one of my assignments for my Chemistry/nutrition course is to track my food and weight...good timing.
In other breaking news, I have a new job that I will start in February. I am really nervous but excited, I will be working in a dedicated pediatric ER :cool1: I've worked in the specialty before, but it's been part of an adult ER so I am excited. It's also very close to home, and the pay rocks. So my plan is to work about 12 hours a week there (one shift) and 2 shifts at transport. Yes, my friends...normal schedule (well nights so not really normal....but only 3 nights a week).

On to my change.....

Anna Maria Island Aug. 15th-22nd
Hard Rock Hotel Aug. 22-24th
Beach Club CL Aug. 24-29th:beach:

DH says it'll change to all Universal...ummmm NO. Not a chance. This is a gift to them...a day at US/IoA....that's it....bright and early Sunday it's time for Disney pixiedust:

Congrats on the job! Your plan sounds good! Staying onsite at Universal is amazing and the resorts are so nice.

Big huge hello to everyone else :wave2: Thinking about you guys. Trying to get myself organized before our trip in less than 3 weeks. I just received notice that dh's passport is on its way (and the passports for the kids). So I can quit stressing over that little detail. I need to make some magnents for our door. I also need to lose some weight! Oops - i probably should've started sooner on that one!:faint:

Wow, not too long for you now. We're also in the last organising stages of our trip too.

Hi guys! The weekend went so fast- one moment it was Friday night and the next it was Sunday. :( Still, not too long until our trip. 3 WEEKS TODAY, YAY! :cheer2::woohoo::cool1:

Pas, woo hoo for BC CL! I see you added CL and I'm so happy for you! I know your kids love a "snack room!"

I know.....I visited both in October and the GF was gorgeous and became my #1 backup plan.

But the Poly......:upsidedow

I was so strong up until now

I wish I had some advice, but I'm as indecisive as anyone else! As for Poly . . . . I just SWITCHED to Poly ten minutes ago! I really do belong here. I really thought I was going to stick with the POR Royal Room - it looks perfect for our quick overnight surprise. And at the time, however, Poly was not available with the AP discount.

But then I looked today, and Poly was available with the AP discount! The overnight is a surprise for the boys (while we're visiting my parents at the beach) and I know this is one they would be seriously thrilled about. It's our two older boys' favorite resort, but I switched away from it to BWI CL for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend next month due to construction. So it will make me happy to get them back to Poly for some Dole Whips. :) I do have to say that I'd be concerned about the construction for a longer stay, but this is one night with the AP discount in a standard room.

Whoo hoo! That's awesome you snagged a room!:thumbsup2

Jen - OMG - love love love the new cruise plan! :beach: So which ship did you sail before? We leave for ours very soon. They just released those discounts for our dates too.

Thanks for the trip happiness for us Lacey! It was a wild, crazy and implusive decision for us, but things have happened lately and we just grabbed at the rate. We are on the Dream again, and this time will know our way around, and what to expect, where to go etc. I am really looking forward to it. What ship are you guys on? Fantasy? If all works out I am hoping to rebook onboard for Alaska 2015. :rolleyes1

Whoo hoo! That's awesome you snagged a room!:thumbsup2

Thank you!!

If all works out I am hoping to rebook onboard for Alaska 2015. :rolleyes1

Hope you do!!! We sailed the Wonder to Alaska in 2012 and it was one of my favorite vacations ever - really an amazing experience and I highly recommend it! We booked a family room with verandah and we all just loved it. Happy to answer any questions as you're considering it for 2015!

Thank you!!

Thanks so much...I will for sure take you up on that. :hug: I think a verandah room is a must for Alaska right? for this second Dream cruise we have 2 Oceanview rooms after having a verandah but I am ok with it. But Alaska...now I think that one is a must for a verandah.

Yes, I really do think the verandah is important for Alaska, if it's in the budget! We spent a lot of time out on the deck, too - especially for Tracy Arm. But at the end of a busy day and all the fun port adventures, our kids would crash with a movie in the room and we'd sit out on the verandah with a glass of wine - amazing! Same with coffee in the morning, on the days that we didn't have early port adventures. We really used that extra space a ton.

Our oldest son and I stood out on the verandah as we arrived in the port early on the final morning - just watching the ship slow and then come to a halt. I have a photo of him looking over the edge of the verandah - it's all fuzzy and he looks so sad to be leaving the ship, but shows how incredible the trip was for all of us and how much we were going to miss the Wonder!

Sooooo, the Poly pool construction has been pushed out till August now......I'm thinking chances are, it will be pushed out again.....what to do, what to doooooo......:scratchin
We are holding strong on a Poly :). Hope pool will be open, but if it isn't, they'll shuttle to gf pool.

I love the Cheesecake Factory!! I always either get the chicken and shrimp gumbo with brown rice (for some reason it seems less spicy with brown rice) or the Sheppard's pie. My favorite cheesecake is the Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake. Have a safe and fun trip.[/

We love the red velvet too, sooooo good! I usually get the fish tacos, but gumbo sounds good too!

Good Morning :wave:

Holiday for us today, but not too much lounging around; have tons to do :upsidedow

Sue - Since you are headed to POR, here's an early morning photo just for you. Wish we were going to be able to get down there to see you again. Hope y'all have a fabulous trip!!!

Thanks for the pic!!! 3 more work days till we drive down to Seattle for flights. Looking forward to some warm sunshine!! It is too bad you all won't be down, was so much fun meeting for beignets last January! What is the birthday surprise this year?

Koh - We've done breakfast and dinner there. While it's been years since we did dinner, we probably wouldn't go back. If you are strictly going for the food, you might want to find another option. However....if you are going for the princesses, then it wouldn't be a bad choice :thumbsup2 And the Banquet Hall has a very nice atmosphere. JMO, of course :teeth:

Wookie - Behind the Seeds tour is a :thumbsup2 Even DD loved it and she was only 4 or 5 at the time. TONS of interesting information!

Candace - No changes!! :thumbsup2:dance3: So proud of you. KEEP that GF ressie. You'll love it !!!

dimndgal - Of course CL is a necessity, isn't it?? :confused3 :laughing: DH always gives us grief about CL, but once he's there... he loves it.

jewels - I totally get your "waiting to change" thing... :laughing: It's always fun making tweaks to our plans. In fact, I'm doing it today! Have to add some dining ressies that my parents said we must do ;) Haven't mentioned it to DH, yet, as he will go into the "this trip is nickle-and-diming me to death" mode.

To anyone I've missed :wave:
Hope everyone has a magical day!!!
Heather

Morning Peeps! :)

Sue, So close now! :banana: Hoping the week flies by for you. :)

MM, thankful that your extended warranty covered the repair. Always a nice feeling when you expect the worse and get this kind of surprise. :goodvibes And congrats with sticking with GF.. is this a record? :upsidedow

Wookie, well we didn't get to see Frozen instead we opted for Catching Fire as DH wanted to see it (second time for me and fifth for Sam.. can you tell we are huge Hunger Game fans? :goodvibes ) Hopefully we'll be able to see Frozen in 3D this week.

Heather, :wave2: Always love to log on and see a morning photo from you. :)

dimndgal hope you had a nice loong shower! :goodvibes

Koh, We had dinner at Akerhaus in 2012 and we had a really nice time. Great princess interaction (and very relaxing). The menu used to include several ethic dishes (which I think was a deterrent for some people) but this had been changed prior to our visit....now there is only one main Norwegian entree. I feel it is definitely worth it on the DP. :)

Thanks!

Pas, a BIG congrats on the new job!!:thumbsup2 You will rock it cause you are amazing at what you do! :flower3: And way to go on dropping 4 lbs, getting in shape and eating healthier means you are taking care of you :goodvibes

Jen, so happy that your cruise/trip is still on!....it will be here so fast.:hug: Forgot is this is a surprise trip for the girls or not.

Lacey, HI :wave2: good to "see" you....refresh my memory where are you off to in a few weeks that you need passports?? The cruise, right? and please give me your dates for the RC list, somehow I missed you .. it's weird 'cause I thought you were on it! See, I need more practice at this RCing ....:goodvibes

Wookie, Cinna is so cool, definitely a favorite character of mine too and I didn't like that scene either :( And please give me girls trip dates for the RC list ... we'll just put "resort TBD" :upsidedow

PixarMom: Congrats on snagging an AP discount at the Poly!!:yay: It will be perfect for the one night and for easy access to Epcot (and HS) and MK. And your boys will be so happy. :)

Thank you :hug: 3 weeks :banana::banana::banana: I figure I have 6 months to get my SAB body on :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: I tell him if he keeps it up I'll cancel HRH and change to GF :hyper:

Stay strong for Disney.... do you need some more muscle to convince DH?:rotfl2: I'm not far away!! :laughing: It will be SO nice to see you, even if only for a day...

It was our #1 choice for this years trip but with the construction and pool being closed, we decided against it. I've been keeping close tabs on it but now I feel like the pool is going to end up being open....I don't really care about the DVC construction, that doesn't bother me....but I neeeeed to have the pool open.

The Poly lover in me says yes!! :thumbsup2

Hi guys! The weekend went so fast- one moment it was Friday night and the next it was Sunday. :( Still, not too long until our trip. 3 WEEKS TODAY, YAY! :cheer2::woohoo::cool1:

:yay: SO nice to think of palm trees, sunshine and DISNEY with the snowstorm heading our way today.

Hello ladies! :grouphug:

How was everyone's weekend?

Jen: Your countdown is looking better every day. :laughing: :hyper:

Jeanette: Congratulations! :worship: I love that GF is used as a threat. :lmao:

Janet: "TBD" should just be on all of ours. :rotfl: Much easier for your record-keeping.

Lacey: Where are you guys off to?! popcorn::

Heather: Oh, thanks for bringing up the Behind the Seeds tour. Jeanette had a glowing review of it, too. Might book that for the birthday shindig. :scratchin

Wookie: I've been to the Luau but I was about 5 at the time so I can't remember a single thing about it. :rotfl:

Candace: Did you change to the Poly?!

Pixar: Sweet swap! :woohoo:

~~===========~~

We took Miss M to see Frozen yesterday. :goodvibes Was hard to tell if she really enjoyed it, but the singing of the movie songs all last night might be a big enough clue. :rolleyes1 I love the "strong female main character" trend with animated films; I hope it long continues.

Hey ladies! :wave2:

I've been trying to lurk here and there, but I had to pop in today since I am finally booked for 2014! :cool1:

We are Poly bound 8/2-8/12 with an amazing deal from that TA which must remain unnamed. :rotfl2: :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Christmas at the VGF was beyond amazing. :lovestruc Crowds were great too. I expected it to be packed, but I guess we got out before the crazy hit. :confused3 Highlight of the trip was watching Holiday Illuminations on CHristmas Eve. I must do this again. Soon!

Anyway... miss all of you! Hope I can pop in more often soon. :goodvibes

We LOVED Frozen!!! My girls have already seen it twice and we've been playing the soundtrack non stop. :love:

And no. We have not changed to the Poly, we are sticking with GF. :goodvibes. It's just the right choice for this trip. :woohoo:

Another development...we have now decided against doing annual passes and will just do a 7 night cruise in 2015 instead. I think (I know) that DH is getting burnt out on Disney....he loves it but this is the 5th year in a row and he just wants something different. He gets so excited about the cruise. I want him to be excited about our vacations and not just go along with it. He'd like to do Disney parks in even years and cruise or other vacation in odd years. I think that's fair. Gotta keep the hubs happy. :goodvibes

I may upgrade my ticket to an AP though and sneak in another girls trip. :goodvibes

Hi! My weekend was alright. Getting the last few things needed for our trip.

I LOVED Frozen, it has to be one of my new favourite Disney movies of all time. Up there with Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast and The Lion King. I've had In Summer in and out of my head since I saw it a couple of weeks ago. :rotfl2:

Oooh, sounds amazing! I think I know you you're talking about, and yes, they do seem to have some amazing deals. I don't want to go in August again though- we went that time in 2006, and whilst it was quiet, it was also very hot and humid. Poly's pool looks amazing though, so take a dip for me!

Oh wow, the VGF is another of my bucket list resorts, looks soo magical. I would just love to take a Christmas trip someday, I love all the decorations and music. :lovestruc

No resort changes here, but we did change our FP+ selections around a bit, does that count? :lmao: Nothing special, just moving the times around to make the day not revolve as much around the three FP+.

Does anyone know if the MK FastPass+ options are going to be tiered like the other parks? And if so, what are the ones in the top tier?

Trying to figure out if we need 2 full days at MK (Saturday/Sunday) or if we do Friday 1/2 day and Sunday full day...Also, trying to find out what's included in the Family Magic Tour with the new FastPass+ system in place...I know they used to do 1-2 fast passes i thought?

And is the rider swap still available at certain rides? Would all 3 (both parents and kid that's riding twice) need FastPass+ for the ride then?

I did customize our bands the other night. :-) DS is yellow, DD is pink, DH is red, and I am green. Really wish they had purple. What's up with that?

Love the idea of upgrading your ticket to an ap for another girls trip!!! Really sounds like something I would do! :thumbsup2

Hi Sue! :wave2: So happy for you - just a few days now!

PixarMom: Congrats on snagging an AP discount at the Poly!!:yay: It will be perfect for the one night and for easy access to Epcot (and HS) and MK. And your boys will be so happy. :)

Janet, thanks so much for adding me to the list on page 1 - forgot to send my thanks earlier! This is such a great place for those of us who love many resorts, and it's wonderful to have a place to go to chat about all of this! As for Poly, I'm so excited to surprise the boys! Our oldest (14) was randomly talking about Poly tonight - and how NOTHING would keep him from choosing it - no pool closure, no GCH construction, nothing on the beach. It's his favorite with or without construction . . . and then I was thinking I made the right choice in switching!

Miss, we LOVE frozen. And we're a family with three boys - they are all about the songs, too. I've now seen it three times, and our youngest (just turned seven) asked for a Frozen theme for his birthday. It's my favorite non-Pixar Disney movie! Sounds like Miss M did enjoy it!

Wookie, I've been to the Luau too, but I was 11 years old, so I don't have much to add either!

We are Poly bound 8/2-8/12 with an amazing deal from that TA which must remain unnamed. :rotfl2: :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Hello iheart! :wave2: Great to hear about your Poly deal for August!

I may upgrade my ticket to an AP though and sneak in another girls trip. :goodvibes

Mousemommy, always a great idea to upgrade to an AP! And we found the Disney cruise was a great balance for everyone. We travel a lot - many non-Disney destinations - but the cruise was a great combination of new places and Disney service, quality, etc. Highly recommend that for your 2015 plan!

No resort changes here, but we did change our FP+ selections around a bit, does that count? :lmao: Nothing special, just moving the times around to make the day not revolve as much around the three FP+.

Sparkly, I'd say that does count! And I've already changed the March ADRs about ten times. :) The switch to the Poly meant switching ADRs and park plans, and then switching some back again. Part of the planning fun!

Does anyone know if the MK FastPass+ options are going to be tiered like the other parks? And if so, what are the ones in the top tier?

Koh, not sure about the swap - our 7 year old is tiny - still too short for a few rides. But these next two visits (February and March) are primarily just the kids and me, so no swapping for us. (My husband will fly down for the night before the Princess Half and the day of, but will not be in the parks with us on the other days.) As for MK, looks like no tiers so far - at least not for our February trip - hope it stays that way!

Love the idea of upgrading your ticket to an ap for another girls trip!!! Really sounds like something I would do! :thumbsup2

Hi Grumpy Grandma! How are you, and how's that California weather? Hope you're keeping the sunshine out there for us - only FOUR MORE DAYS until we're in Newport Beach again for a week!

Sooooooo cold and soooooo much snow!!!

That's what I was thinking. Plus we're going to spend the most time probably at Epcot. We want to really explore all the countries really well and especially their shops. We are probably going to do the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot as well. The person that was going to be the hard one to schedule with is the one that isn't going now.

I'm glad you are getting around better. The National Zoo is one of the many things that I want to see when we go visit my sister in the Summer of 2015.

I would definitely do Epcot resort then... so convenient to get to World Showcase and The Land!
And let me know if you need any DC area insight; I grew up outside DC, went to college here and am back with the Navy (I keep telling hubby I asked for exotic and got home again) :-)

Good Morning :wave:

I may need your hubby to explain the virtues of CL to mine ;-)

DH says it'll change to all Universal...ummmm NO. Not a chance. This is a gift to them...a day at US/IoA....that's it....bright and early Sunday it's time for Disney pixiedust:

First off, bless you for taking your time at a demanding but amazing job! Our little Peanut came 2 months early and the Ped ER staff were amazing at helping both of us and getting our little trooper on a help to Georgetown before she was an hour old. She is doing amazingly now but the docs and nurses on both ends hold a special place in my heart!

Love that you are working US in your plans... saw a commercial with the new HP stuff and am trying to figure when we can work a visit in.

No BFF, you're on it :thumbsup2 :hug:

I think the afternoon tea is what you're thinking of, but I don't think there are characters there...would be a nice Mommy daughter activity nonetheless..very fancy :goodvibes

That is probably what it is... need to get down and google soon to start figuring it all out!

I know we want to have pool time as well. The pool being closed was what had kept the Poly off our short list.

Has anyone been to the Luau at the Poly? We are thinking about going to it one night. Does anyone know if the category you book really makes that much of a difference is how well you can see the show?

We did the luau years ago but loved it! Ironically, it was before we moved to Hawaii but DH and I ranked it up with our fave luau from the islands. The storyline is kind of 'eh' but the dancers are amazing and the food was better than some of the luau we did in HI. Also, the all you can drink beer and wine made it even more...magical. :-)

Thank you!!

Hope you do!!! We sailed the Wonder to Alaska in 2012 and it was one of my favorite vacations ever - really an amazing experience and I highly recommend it! We booked a family room with verandah and we all just loved it. Happy to answer any questions as you're considering it for 2015!

Our dream vacation!!! Hoping for a cruise in '16 when littlest is more mobile!

Our household loved Frozen; esp the bond since our oldest is learning about it firsthand. That said, the soundtrack is on repeat and I am starting to feel guilty for the endless loops of music I put my folks through. :-)

We LOVED Frozen!!! My girls have already seen it twice and we've been playing the soundtrack non stop. :love:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things have been up and down here... trying not to overdo but still being a momma and putting the kids first. The snow today is complicating things-really wanted DD back at school so I could just entertain the Peanut. DH is doing short days which helps but I definitely have my whiny moments.
Toying with adding a day to the trip and bumping down to standard... price is the same but we would still have same number of park days... this would just be an extra 'explore' day. DH prefers the comfort of a bigger room over time esp since we are talking 2 extended family trips in next few years. We'll see how it plays out.
Both our families are thinking trips (not together...too hard!) My sister lives out west so I am trying to convince my folks DL would be better: my parents went as kids but haven't been back since, but have done WOW recently. Last time we went was when Carsland was being built so I'd love to go again. And since sister can drive to DL, would be easier than everyone flying (and cheaper!!!)
We are starting to talk our next move which is both exciting and stressful. I love being back on my home turf but miss seeing new places... and we can always come back. Best thing is that 2 good options put us near Disney ;-) and are jobs DH enjoys... double plus!!!
*hugs* to all!
jennyjinxcongrsts on Alaska cruise, veranda sounds great!
Pas congrats on job:thumbsup2 looking at your Universal dates :sad2: we will just miss you, as we transfer to Poly on 8/20. I'm still holding firm on Poly. I heard rumours they've pushed back pool renos, so who knows? I'll keep watching.
Miss we have to get around to see Frozen. Did you enjoy it? We just saw Saving Mr Banks. Great movie!
Koh oh I sure hope they don't tier the other parks :sad2: matter of fact I hope they do away with tiering altogether. I'm not happy about this at all! It's bad enough that the ability is gone to ride fav attractions more then once without having a crazy standby wait, but the possibility of not being able to even get one ride on a fav without spending an hour in line is just awful!! Having to choose between Sorin & Test Track :eek: I'm trying to stay positive about these changes, untill I experience first hand, but it's hard!! Ugh!
Pixarmom :goodvibes good to hear from you! Thanks! I'm packing, but sooo hard deciding what to bring. Temps seem to be all over the place, and I'm really making an effort NOT to over-pack this time :eek: Heatherthat better not be you I hear laughing!! :dance3:
I heart I have the deal for Labour Day at Poly, so looking forward to hearing how it is when you are there.
Wookie I was thinking of doing the Behind The Seeds tour this trip, I think January would be better then our August trips when it's sweltering in there!
dimndgal Brrrr, stay warm!
Oooh, sounds amazing! I think I know you you're talking about, and yes, they do seem to have some amazing deals. I don't want to go in August again though- we went that time in 2006, and whilst it was quiet, it was also very hot and humid. Poly's pool looks amazing though, so take a dip for me!
Oh wow, the VGF is another of my bucket list resorts, looks soo magical. I would just love to take a Christmas trip someday, I love all the decorations and music.
No resort changes here, but we did change our FP+ selections around a bit, does that count? :lmao: Nothing special, just moving the times around to make the day not revolve as much around the three FP+.
August is brutal for sure! I'll be keeping my eye on the pool closure issue. We don't really tour during the midday, so we make it work.
FP changes totally count. Anything that can be changed, shall be changed. I think it's in our blood.:rotfl:
Does anyone know if the MK FastPass+ options are going to be tiered like the other parks? And if so, what are the ones in the top tier?
Trying to figure out if we need 2 full days at MK (Saturday/Sunday) or if we do Friday 1/2 day and Sunday full day...Also, trying to find out what's included in the Family Magic Tour with the new FastPass+ system in place...I know they used to do 1-2 fast passes i thought?
And is the rider swap still available at certain rides? Would all 3 (both parents and kid that's riding twice) need FastPass+ for the ride then?
I did customize our bands the other night. :-) DS is yellow, DD is pink, DH is red, and I am green. Really wish they had purple. What's up with that?
Tiers at MK would be awful. Crossing fingers they stay away, but I'm not hopeful. I want a purple Magic Band too!
Love the idea of upgrading your ticket to an ap for another girls trip!!! Really sounds like something I would do! :thumbsup2
Hi Grumpy Grandma. Feeling any better yet?
- only FOUR MORE DAYS until we're in Newport Beach again for a week!
Woohoo! Can I run away with you? I've go the whole 3 boys thing down pat! :lmao: Have a great trip!
pas - First off, bless you for taking your time at a demanding but amazing job!
Ditto this!
Your story made me smile and cemented my desire to cruise Alaska!!!
Me too! If I could get over my fear of cruises in general(which is not likely! :mad:)
I hope you are back up to speed very quickly. Take care of yourself! I know, easier said then done with little ones afoot. :goodvibes
Miss we have to get around to see Frozen. Did you enjoy it? We just saw Saving Mr Banks. Great movie!
We saw Frozen over the weekend and LOVED it! Now I need to see Saving Mr. Banks. It looks awesome!
I heart I have the deal for Labour Day at Poly, so looking forward to hearing how it is when you are there.
I've never booked with a TA before so I'm a tad nervous. I think I already sent my agent over the edge with all of my quote requests, :rolleyes1 Although I don't think I'm done yet. If I can snag YC or BC at a good rate I'm totally doing another split! Crossing my fingers for that Poly pool!
I bet you are getting super excited by now! Enjoy that Florida sunshine! :woohoo:
Oops! Looks like I need to gt me a new ticker. Better get on that today. :cool1:
Hopeing everyone is staying warm and safe with this crazy "Arctic Vortex" weather, woke up this morning and it was only 1 degree, -18 with the windchill Brrrrrrrrr
Bella is the same am thinking of getting her a doggie wheelchair but going to try a rear leg lift harness first.
Saga of Bob So we are shopping the other day and I left him at the deli counter while I ventured off to the produce aisle, he catches up to me and puts a pond of ham and a pound of bologna into the cart so I ask where's the cheese? Yep he forgot to get it :rotfl2:
Have a Great Day All :goodvibes
