This covers the 7-day land/sea vacation of Keith and Holly from Birmingham, AL as told by Keith (Parrotheader.) We’re both 26 with kids still a couple years away. Holly had previously been to Disney World twice (one trip she was too young to remember) and Keith had been 5 times. We're BOTH cruise rookies. Pictures of our trip can also be found at:

Day 5 – Magic Kingdom and MGM again
Wednesday, May 29

We got an earlier start on our last day at WDW. We were up and at the Port Orleans lobby by 9:00 where we asked a few last minute questions to the nice people at the cruise lines kiosk set up there. After that, we caught the bus to the Magic Kingdom.

We went straight back to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and rode that in less than 10 minutes. From there, we went to Pirates of the Caribbean again. Once again, there was no wait. After that, Holly reluctantly agreed to go up with me in the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. I wish they’d let you pay to stay in that thing for a night. I’d LOVE it. After that, there wasn’t much left in Magic Kingdom that we wanted to do which we hadn’t done on this trip. We did go over and catch the Future World (or whatever it’s called these days) Skytram. We ALWAYS have to do that. It’s a family tradition or something (we used to use it cool off on hot summer days at the park.)

After that, we left Magic Kingdom and took the monorail over to the Polynesian around 11:00. We were planning on an early lunch, but the Kona Café was still serving breakfast and that actually sounded great. The prices were VERY reasonable by Disney standards for what we got and the food was great.

After lunch, we walked around the Polynesian grounds. They were pretty (nowhere near as pretty as Port Orleans in my opinion) but the view of the lagoon and Magic Kingdom was certainly nice. We found a hammock on the beach with a bunch of ducks nestled around it and crashed there for about 30 minutes. We then walked over to the Transportation Center and after our longest bus wait of the entire trip finally got over to MGM again.

By this time (1:00) it was VERY hot. The previous days had been hot too, but there had always been a steady wind and the humidity had been only 50% or so. Today it was stagnant air and 80%+ humidity. We’re Southerners and we can take it, but we don’t have to like it.

At MGM, we immediately got a Fast Pass for the Rocking Roller coaster and then had to figure out how to kill the next 2.5 hours until our time came up. So we went to Drew Carey Sound Show thing. It was good although we both liked the older version better (where audience members helped use sound effects tools to fill in the audio of a movie scene.) After that, we did the Great Movie Ride with only a 15-minute wait. I was worried Holly wouldn’t like it since she’s not big into classic movies, but she thoroughly enjoyed it.

After that, we just did a little shopping and then found a shady spot to wait until our Fast Pass came up. We got on the coaster and once again enjoyed it. I timed the ride and it was just over 60 seconds from launch to finish. A long time to wait for such a quick thrill. But I’m glad we did it again since it was Holly’s favorite.

We left MGM and got back to Port Orleans around 4:15. We did most of our packing and tried to take a little nap. Since we hadn’t spent much time at Port Orleans we decided to have dinner at the main restaurant there, Boatright’s. It was very good (I had an EXTREMELY messy meal involving ribs and wings) and we both had probably a bit too much to drink.

We caught the boat to Downtown Disney and walked over to Disney Quest. We’d never been in there before and were amazed. It was like a massive version of Dave and Busters aimed at a broader range of people with all sorts of games. I’d LOVE to go back there with my brother or coworkers some time. We did a virtual rafting game and played some video games, but it was EXTREMELY hot in there so we left.

After that, we strolled along the shoreline trying to savor our last night at Disney World. It had truly been a fantastic trip. We reluctantly worked our way back to the boat dock. The perfect capper was when our favorite little boat driver pulled up. It was the perfect way to end our stay at Disney World with the beautiful boat ride back to our resort.
