Our Hoop Dee Doo, Hoop Dee Dont Review!

Sorry you had a bad experience OP...
We loved it during our trip, but I did feel the meal is a bit rushed...I hope you enjoyed some of your other meals if you had other ADRs...thanks for your review so that folks can get an idea from both sides of the fence...

OK now I'm getting more n more nervous about our ressies at the luau but now I'm scared to switch it to the hddr. Decisions decisions.

Please don't change any reservations based upon reviews. If it sounds like something you and your family would like-then go and see. I don't like HDDR but many people love it. I did like the Luau and many people don't like it. You really just have to try things for yourself.

And have fun planning-don't stress. :goodvibes

We went in 2007 mostly because I find every joke in the Jungle Cruise really funny. I thought corny humor=Hoop De Doo -> I would be in heaven.

Not at all.

The humor wasn't corny. It was cringe-worthy. It was even weirder in that it sounded as if a class of 6th graders wrote it in the '70s. Here's what it was like- if you find yourself watching an old re-run of the Brady Bunch and wondering what on earth was so funny or entertaining about it...beware HoopDeeDoo.

Food was OK. Service was slow but acceptable. Kids will probably like it, it's loud and active and all of that. Adults? You pay your money, you take your chances.

Oh, and just my opinion. YMMV.

I have to agree with the OP, one trip to the HDDR was enough for us. It wasn't our thing. Sorry u had a bad experience as well. :goodvibes

We HATED it, too and would never go back. My DH added another Doo to the song...
Hoop-Dee-Doo-Doo :lmao:

We also HATED that the bathrooms are outside in another building. DS had to go during the show, so I missed quite a bit of it. (Not that it bothered me to miss the show... ;))

went to the Spirit of Aloha on our honeymoon two years ago. She had never been to a laua before but she absolutely loved it! The bottomless beer mug may have made it more fun but the show was entertaining, the food good and the adult beverages kept on coming.

I know they have changed it seveal times in the past five years and the first change I didn't really care for but they have tweaked it into a pretty good show.

Sometimes if you go into something with too high expectation u can lose track of the experience. The phone call and weather seemed to have you in a mood and no matter the experience once your mind set is negative things only seem for the worse.

I love this "Corny show" and thought i wouldnt..I was pleasently surprised and will be returning.

BTW I hated LeCellier so diferent strokes for different folks

My DH thought that we should do Hoop this upcoming trip. I You Tubed it found a few videos and...:rolleyes1 we won't be doing it. We enjoyed the Luau, and I think that with younger kids it would be great, but there is just the two of us, so... we're going to Boma instead! :thumbsup2

Oh, I wish we'd done that....:headache:

OP, I am sorry how you were treated when trying to request a special meal for your kids! That should NEVER happen! First of all, the cost for a child to eat is enormous--I think they could arrange a little mac and cheese or whatever (from Trails End next door if need be) without giving you grief about your picky eater being "your problem". Grrr...

Anyway, our party of seven hated HDDR several years ago when we went, too. Oh, well....at least we found out it wasn't for us. I wish we could have looked it up on You Tube first before dropping $400 or whatever it was...

Sorry you did not enjoy yourself, it is rather expensive if paying OOP to have had a bad time.

I have gone a total of 3x twice in the 90's and then just last year. I have only ever gone to the last show of the night and my DS were older 10+ and last year we were all Adults. I always wondered just how much smaller children would enjoy the show as it is somewhat more oriented towards Adults I think, as for the food I do not think it is something most kids would not eat, my kids were picky when small too but it seems to me fried chicken, mashed pototoes etc are foods most kids eat.
I have to agree the first time I went I was surprised that you had to share dessert but it was actually plenty since we all had over eaten with the main meal.
Last year it seems the quality of the food was not the same as in previous times we went the beans were too runny and our family enjoyed the corn over the mashed potatoes they now served.

The picture being taken before the show while you waited to go inside was new, this was not done years ago and I personally was happy to have it as a rememberance from the night we went last year.

Our server Bob was fantastic, we were seated right upfront near the piano, the music was a little loud but we had a very nice time, the show still the same from years past but we still laughed.

We are not going this year but my DS and his wife already have their ressie for while we are there in November.

We were tossing around the idea of doing HDDR on our trip next year, then we added a person to our group and she has an interest in doing the Spirit of Aloha, well we have done it 2x now and loved it both times, super food and super service. So we will do SofA again and put HDDR on the back burner until the next trip after reading your review. I think for us it is better to do the tried and true than to do one not done and have regrets when taking a newbie.

Sorry you had a bad experience tho!

I think HDDR, Mickeys Backyard BBQ, and Chef Mickeys are go one time events..due to the popularity ..then you decide for yourself. Personally I love Chef Mickeys but a lot hate it, I have done HDDR and Mickeys BBQ would I do them again no but at least I had the experience

Since 1985 we've been there 15 times.... :rolleyes1

We love it.

Yes, it's sort of "Hee Haw humor", but it's just such a good time....

But, it's not for everyone, I suppose....

We have friends that go to the HDDR and love it. They stay at the camp grounds so maybe that has something to do with it. They have told us about it for so many years that we decided to try it about 3 years ago. We were on the disney dining plan so we decided this was a good time to try it. I am glad we tried it because I would always think I was missing something. It was not our thing. The food was good (not great) but good. We sat upstairs on the rail which was nice but the show was just not our thing. We were kinda of glad we were not on the main floor so we did not have to interact with the show. The other thing is it takes so long to get there and back that we spent a whole evening getting there, waiting to be seated, watching the show and then having to get back. Glad we did it and probably won't do it again. We find that as we try more restaurants and shows that there are ones that we will never go back to but are glad that we tried them because it makes more time for all the things that we find are a must do every year.

We didn't like it either. We had cancelled the Luau because we heard it would be closed if it rained and didn't want to be caught with no where to eat. The food was good but we were cat. 3 and had to turn our seats around to see the show and then turn them back to eat. There wasn't much room to do this and we kept banging into the table, railing and eachother. The show wasn't that great. Not worth using 2 dining credits....unless you are a drinker(all the beer and wine you want) which we are not.

We have seen the HDDR 3 times and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. Yes, the food is not as exciting or varied as Chefs De France, but that's not what we look for at that show.

As someone who has seen his share of everything from Broadway to experimental theater in a 10 seat room, I still enjoy the vaudevillian schtick and fun songs of the HDDR.

Most importantly, I totally agree with the many posters who have said that no one should be making their ADRs on 1 bad or good post. You know your family best and whether the food or show will appeal to them.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I thought this was going to be the dumbest show on earth... (and I liked Hee Haw). If you don't know.. Hee Haw was a TV show (long time ago) with similar type of humor. I still don't think HDD was funny... but DS4 laughed his head off the whole time. For that reason, I almost planned to go on our next trip, but DW wants to do different things.

Our waitress was great -- maybe that makes a difference. She was a LOT of fun, joked with us non-stop. Gave DS4 a stool instead of a chair so he could sit higher and see better.... brought him french fries not on the menu.

I'd go again, but it's not a priority. I'd rather see Spirit of Aloha again, just to see the fire juggler and it was nice to eat outside. And many people don't like that show either. The fire juggler at the end of the show was awesome... so if you want a different show to do, try that one. (And I recommend Category 1 seating).
