Our Homemade Minnie Cake! (Look!) ** Added a few party pics now

It looks great!

Can you post a link to the instructions? My class is having a cake sale in a few weeks. I'd love to use a Minnie cake as a center piece.

Thanks everyone!!!

We only had a pic to go on, and modified things a bit! Here is the one I saw online (SUPER cute!) http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesweettoothfairy/3018282019/in/set-72157603839918298/

The bottom is 2 layers from a 10 inch round 2 inch high pan. The middle layer is a 8 inch round 3 inch high pan. The top layer I used a saucepan since I didn't have a small enough pan. Then I put a small bowl on top of that layer to get the rounded effect. The ears are cardboard with fondant over them and toothpicks holding them in. The entire cake is covered with fondant, you can get a 5lb pack at Michael's for around $10 with a coupon. The fondant is a pain, you have to knead it well, then drop some icing coloring into it to get the black and the pink colors and roll it out thin. I used red for pink, not too much. We had various round objects we used for the polka dots mickey head and ears (a cookie cutter would work great, but didn't have one!). All of the decorations are "glued" to the cake with a paintbrush and a little bit of water on the backside of each decoration. It holds like glue. I didn't make the ribbon, my sister did so I'm not sure how she did that!

Hope that helps!

I want to make a red and white one (the boys would die if I made a pink cake:scared1:)

Silly question, but how did you get the ears black? I've never seen black food coloring.:confused3 I assume I can pick some up at Michael's.:confused3

Sorry for all the questions :flower3:

Beautiful, beautiful job!! And happy birthday to your little princess!! princess:

It's gorgeous! I would like to try ne of these, but the fondant intimidates me.

That cake is adorable! If you don't already post to this DIS thread, do post your cake there. The gals are very friendly and love to support each others creativity in making cakes. :thumbsup2

Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Thanks

:lmao:Yeah they might not like that!!

I bought Wilton black icing coloring at Michaels. It comes in a little jar. The black is a pain, you have to just keep adding more color so it's not a purpleish tint. Make sure you get some of the plastic food service gloves. We had none and our hands were black and pink!

Nice job! Fondant's a PITA, isn't it? :o)

Totally! Neither of us have ever used fondant before, heck I can barely even bake a regular cake :rotfl: I had to bake the bottom layer twice because it wouldn't come out of the pan!

Me likey rolled fondant...
actually, I used to be a professional baker...nice job!:thumbsup2WDW would have charged you $350 for THAT cake!!!

Ps...the rolled fondant usually tastes awful, too sweet...did you put a thin layer of regular frosting under??? I peel off the rolled fondant after people ooohh and ahhhh over my cakes.

I did put buttercream under it! I think if I peel the fondant off, people will die of how horrid it looks with crumbs all in it LOL. I agree about fondant, taste gross! I made some marshmallow stuff a couple of weeks ago to test it, and it tasted pretty good, I just didn't want to do that work again!

That is beautiful! I don't think I would want anyone to eat it! Great job :thumbsup2

I love that cake! :woohoo:
I wish you lived by me...I would order one!

You did a great job!

What an adorable cake! Almost too pretty to eat.
