Yippie ! Congrates! Welcome to the World Calvin! :cheer2:

Thanks so much for sharing the news! I'm so glad to here that Calvin has arrived! Congratulations to mom, dad, and family!

First, just wanted to thank Alison for sharing my update with you guys. I was so out of it the past few days, I had hoped she would see my update and share with you guys, so thank you Alison :goodvibes

Wouldn't you know, I started getting contractions at 1am the morning of my induction. Which meant I didn't get the full amount of sleep that I thought I was going to get. I got 2 1/2 hours of sleep before getting contractions and stayed up with them until we got to the hospital.

Leaving to the hospital - 6:30am

We checked into the hospital a little after 7am and got put in our room right away. My doctor came in at around 7:30 to check to see where I was, and even with my contractions for the past 6 hours, I was still where I was! So she stripped my membranes and actually got me to a 3 right then and there. I started telling her about my concerns with the Cytotec and she was very open and willing to do half of the dosage (went from half a pill, to quarter of a pill) so that's what we did. She said my contractions were going to get stronger and closer together.

Holy cow. I was not prepared at all for the pain I was going to endure. My pain went from about a 5 going into the hospital to a 7.

Here I am at 8:30am

But I wanted to stick out the contractions as much as possible before getting the epidural. They checked me again at around 10:30am and was about 3 1/2 centimeters. I finally asked for the epidural at 11am and the anesthesiologist came in around 11:30 and started working on getting me drugged up in between contractions. It was VERY hard to stay still during contractions. But she finally got it in, and within 10 minutes, my pain was going down slowly to eventually feeling nothing at all. It was amazing. Just like the Zofran that saved me early on in pregnancy, this was my life saver right now.

At 2pm with my mom and Dan.

The checked me again around 2:30pm and I was at 5 cm. Still 5cm left to go and I had been laboring for over 12 hours now, so they gave me pitocin. I was tired from the lack of sleep and exhausted from all the pain earlier. Well, it got worse. The pain started coming back even harder before the epidural, plus this time it was also in my lower back. The epidural was completely gone by 4:45pm, so they called the anesthesiologist to come back in because my eyes were rolling and my oxygen had dropped. I was at a hard 9 for pain definitely and the contractions were getting closer together. It took a little longer for the epidural to kick in this time, probably about 30 minutes. They were also changing nurses soon, so I got introduced to the new nurse that would be taking over and she was super sweet.

At around 6:40, she wanted to see how I was progressing, so she checked and she had a very shocked look on her face that actually scared me and she said, "I feel a head! He's right here and you're a ten!" I started tearing up, one because she scared me and two that this was almost over. DH wasn't in the room at this point, he was out talking to our families that had been waiting. So she had me push to see how far he would come and she immediately told me to stop because he was for sure coming down. She called my Doctor and told her to hurry because the baby was coming. My doctor wasn't in the hospital at this point, so she had to hurry and drive from her house to the hospital. Right after the phone called DH walked in, and the nurse was so excited she told him, we're getting ready to push. He got antsy and nervous, immediately! DH ran out to tell everyone that I was going to start pushing soon; he can't sit still when he's nervous or excited. He started taking pictures too

My doctor showed up about 12-15 minutes later (I was watching that clock!), she got dressed really quick and had me push to see for herself where I was at. She had me stop pushing and said, "You're an amazing pusher. He'll be out in 3 pushes!" Sure enough, all it took was 3 pushes!

We were both so thrilled and happy!....and tired.

I ended up having a second degree tear and also tore on the top, sothat's why I haven't been able to update. I'm in a lot of pain right now, and can barely walk to do things I need to be doing around the house to take care of Calvin.

Anyway, because he's waking up i'm going to keep this part short. We were taken to the mother-baby unit to stay for 24 hours to be monitored and to heal. They had pushed back our release time by an hour after being monitored for a bit. I think because of oxygen levels and my tearing?? But as time went on, it went from 8pm to being released at 6pm! So here is his in his going home outfit that I made for him.

Thank you all so much for listening to my whining and complaining these past 10 months. You all have been so incredibly supportive! So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words, prayers, thoughts, suggestions, opinions, etc, etc.

I'm trying to get the hang of this breastfeeding thing down, so that's what i'm off to do. I'll be back soon!

Congrats!!! He is so beautiful!!!! Isn't it crazy to think last week he was still inside your tummy!?!? I thought about you today and how good of a time your going to have at Disney this year!!!

Leasha Calvin is Beautiful! Once again Congratulations ! :goodvibes

He is beautiful! You have probably heard this from other moms - but sleep when he sleeps.

Congratulations! I'm so glad he's here and all is well. Also glad your doctor was receptive to your concerns and things worked out smoothly. I had second degree tearing too, so I understand how hard it is right now for you (and I have to say I'm impressed you already have your birth story written and I'm still working on mine 2 weeks later!). For what it's worth, the tearing/stitches were pretty painful the first week, but this second week has been much better. I hope breastfeeding is going well for you. It's been more challenging than I'd anticipated, but things are improving. Calvin is quite a cutie! Oh, also, cool that your nurse (?) is wearing a Disney shirt in one of those pictures!

Wow Alicia I loved reading your birth story with pictures included too!

Your story is very similar to mine, except my epidural was a little too good which meant I didn't feel my contractions much at all. They had to use the dreaded forceps lol

Anyway, Calvin is just gorgeous!! Totally worth all the pain and worry!

Hope the breast feeding is going ok for you. I wasn't too great at it I must admit.

Wow, I'm amazed you remembered so many details. I guess it's an experience of a lifetime :) thank so much for including us in your journey :) I'm sorry about the tearing, I hope it heals fast. Calvin is super cute!!!

Congratulations! Babies are such a miracle. :cutie:
(PS How did you look so fabulous, even in the hospital? :goodvibes)
