Our Escape Wedding TR/PJ ~ 06/2010 WP/Mizner's/Citricos

I can't believe they didn't fit your dress correctly!! I had no idea that Davids was so expensive for alternations. I'm glad you found a place that was much more reasonably priced.

That sucks! I've heard similar stories about DB and decided to buy my dress at another store because of the bad things I had heard. I'm so sorry this happened to you!

Thanks :goodvibes I mean I love the dress and the experience buying it in NC was great....but the alterations were a whole other story that wasn't great at all. Way too overpriced for my dress.

Well i'm glad everything went well now! Can't wait to see it the pictures of it! I do have to say I had a bad experience at DB as well. When we were first looking for a dress (like a year too early:rotfl:) I went there. The lady did not measure me either and kept being like oh your a 4 def! and I was like no not even close...and she kept insisting and telling me I was wrong. Well guess what I am not a 4 and she didn't listen. Then she kept ignoring me about what dresses I wanted to try on and telling me that the dresses I liked were too old for me. SO I know how silly DB can be. I'm glad yours is all set and now you have no problems!

That's so annoying that they don't measure!!! How the heck are they supposed to know just by LOOKING?! It doesn't make sense to me. If I had ordered the right size from the start, I might not have needed any alterations. And by the time I figured it all out, it was too late to try and exchange anyway

I am so glad to hear everything worked out. My sister went through a nightmare with DB and alterations as well. They were rude and took her dress in too much to the point she almost couldn't wear it. I haven't looked for a dress yet, but I will deff. be taking mine to my local seamstress as well. I was recently a BM and all the other girls got there dresses done from the salon we bought them from, (I refused to because the lady screamed at me for no reason at the fitting) and I went to my regular lady and my dress was 1/2 of what everyone else's cost. I think because DB is such a big company they just don't care about every customer as much as a small local seamstress does.

I agree with you on keeping the dress a secret. I don't know why but I never liked the idea of posting my dress anywhere online. What if DF came across it some how?

OMG I would have had a heart attack if that happened to me! I hope your sis was still able to wear her dress!! :scared1: I totally agree, DB's is just so large now it's easier for people to slip in the cracks...but my seamstress has a reputation to uphold and she took so much time to make it perfect. Yeah I've also been worried my DF would see the dress! Another good reason to hold it back :cutie:

I didn't think DB's would be that outrageous. I went in thinking I'd spend up to $200...but over $300 for a dress that wouldn't fit right?! No way. If they would have been able to make it fit right, I might have just paid it but I'm SO happy I went with my seamstress instead. :woohoo:

Eric and I spent last Saturday in DC for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It was awesome! We went last year, but it's just so pretty that I'm trying to soak it in as much as I can each year before we leave the area! We had a picnic near the basic at Jefferson's Memorial where most of the trees are planted. I love DC :lovestruc

I'm glad you love your dress! David's can be quite a disaster! I'm glad it all worked out in the end though..I'm sure you will look beautiful and I cannot wait to see it! I love DC..we are actually planning a weekend there soon!

I'm glad everything worked out with the alterations! Your welcome bags sounds good...definitely full of lots of useful stuff!

Wow - I have enjoyed reading all your planning so far and looking forward to more. Can't believe what happened with you at Davids Bridal. I did not get my dress there but where I did of course they took measurements - how could they not take measurements. Glad you found someone to get your dress fitted to you and I completely understand you not wanting to share your dress right now. I felt the same way - the only people that saw my dress before my wedding was my 3 bridesmaids and 2 people at my job that were not coming to my wedding - and Cam - here on the Disboards.

We were in WDW last year for my DH's birthday in March and came home on Palm Sunday in April and caught the Cherry Blossom Festival - we took the autotrain so when we got off the train in VA we just had a little drive to DC. Here is a picture I got.

Thought it was funny we got almost the same shots.

Back to your PJ - can't wait to read more.

Hi! I just read through your whole PJ, and I love your plans. I can't wait to see how everything comes together.

I LOVE the hanger. What a great idea. I wish I knew about it before I got married. I'll definitely be getting that for friends/relatives in the future :thumbsup2

I can relate with the alterations drama too. The smallest my dress came in was a 4...then I spent almost $300 on alterations and I still feel like I was swimming in it on the wedding day...so I hope people take your advice!

I'm loving everything so far. I'm also a June bride but not until 2012!!:lmao: I already bought my dress at Alfred Angelo and can't wait until it comes it! But I will be waiting until prob late 2011 to get alterations done to it, and I might go to a local semstress as I did for a formal dress I wore on the cruise. As I will just need hemming done to my dress, nothing else needs to be taken in because it has the lace tying up the back. Can't wait to hear more about your plans!! Love the dress BTW!!

I'm also going to go home tonight and order a hanger, it's sooo cute! I'm still debating on my new last name or mine and his names how did you choose?

Love-Love-Love the hanger. I am so sorry I never saw anything like that before our November 2008 wedding. I have some great shots of my dress hanging up but it would be SO much better with that hanger.

My girlfriends son is getting married this coming November and I am planning on ordering this for her shower. When talking to my girlfriend, she said that the girl is just so happy to be mrs. xxx - so that is what I am going to get on the hanger (of course with the correct last name - not the xxx. I almost feel like ordering one for me and redoing my dress pictures.

I am so glad you posted it on here and said you liked it. I was kind of afraid on what the quality would be.

Thanks,
Linda

I'm so glad things worked out with your dress! That's so weird that they didn't measure you. I worked at David's Bridal when I was in college and we always measured brides, if we didn't already know the size. But back then, you were not supposed to encourage brides to order dresses, so most of the ones I sold were off the rack. We only ordered if there wasn't a dress in the right size, etc.

They did not measure me for my dress and had me order a size 2. I wear a size 0/2 in clothes but was told that gowns fit a little tighter..luckily the dress fits me like a glove, but I cannot gain ANY weight..I'm getting alterations done at DB, so wish me luck:confused:

I'm glad you've enjoyed everything so far. The hanger would be a great gift! That's so annoying that your dress didn't fit well after all that $$ spent on alterations. I hate that it's SO expensive to get alterations done. Maybe I was super lucky to have my seamstress be able to fit it the way I wanted to. I think my biggest fear with my dress was not getting it fitted perfectly to me. I was ridiculously upset when I saw how big the size 2 was on me!

Wow we did get the same shots in DC!! I went last year too, it was gorgeous then! I think this year we missed the peak bloom by a couple days so it wasn't as pink. Great pictures though, thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

It'll be here before you know it!! I would get a price quote from AA and make sure they can fit the dress exactly how you want it to fit. Even if they can, I would still personally get a price quote from your seamstress. I think you'd be surprised with the price difference. I got "wendy&eric" on the dress hanger instead of "Mrs.XXX" because at the point when those pics are going to be taken of my dress, I won't be "Mrs. XXX" yet! So that was my rational :) Plus I'm the kind of girl that isn't head over heels excited to be Mrs. XXX (I contemplated keeping my last name for academic reasons), so it didn't match my personality to get "Mrs. XXX". Good luck deciding, let me know what you choose!

I found the hanger randomly while searching Etsy if you can believe it. I realized I didn't want a normal plastic one and then saw this one and I was hooked! The quality is great, but the seller does warn that it's not a long term storage hanger (probably can't handle the weight for a long period of time). I'm glad you're going to get one for your friend, she will love it! Hah that would be funny to redo your dress pics with the hanger :rotfl2:

Yea I thought it was weird too looking back on it! I didn't realize they tried to sell off the rack, but that makes sense then. I probably wouldn't have bought from David's if they had me purchase the dress that I tried on!! But thankfully it all worked out :cutie:

Wow that's perfect! I bet your alterations will be very minimal then and hopefully not expensive. Good luck and let me know how they turn out, when are you going?

Despite not updating, I've been SUPER busy with wedding stuff. :scared1:

The most important update is we FINALLY finished our invitations and mailed them out!!! :yay: We started using an Etsy seller but it turned out to be a horrible experience for us because she would hardly return my messages, gave us our mock up copy way too late, and the invite just looked horrible. So we got a refund and just made them ourselves. I am very happy with the way they turned out! We should have just made them ourselves from the start - I've become pretty detail oriented lately. Oh well, live and learn!

Wendy the invitations are gorgeous and they really match your theme. Sorry that you had a bad experience with the vendor however I think your own have probably come out better. :cool1:

haha I haven't update in a while (I really should...) either!

I really love the invites and the tissue packets! so so pretty :thumbsup2

They're very pretty, nicely done.

LOVE your invites!!! You did an amazing job! I also love the tissue packs!! As we speak I am also working on my Program fans...so I'm anxiously waiting to see those!!

great job on the invites! I love the detail you put into them. I'm sorry you had trouble with the seller but I think they really did turn out better and now you can say that you made them :goodvibes. The tissue packets are so cute....I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to do them or not....but I should finish all the other projects I said I was going to do first :lmao:.

Hi Wendy! Your invites and cry pack turned out beautiful! I love them!! You are so talented. Could you post closer pics of your invite inserts? I never know what people put on, and how they word all the extra cards! Thanks!
Marissa

Your invitations are incredible! Did you find the template online or come up with it yourself? They must have taken forever! I think I'm going to have to get really good at being creative and patient...I'm hoping to do a lot of DIY stuff to save money. :goodvibes
