Our End-of-the-Summer Celebration! *TR LINK ADDED!!*

What a great trip! You saw so many neat things, I'm a big history geek and would just love seeing all that! The sunset/view at the baseball game was beautiful.

Loving your Philly TR! I went to Philly once to visit my friend at Villanova and yes it is such a beautiful campus. But sadly I didn't see anything else in philly so I'm excited to see it in your TR. The only other thing I saw was the King of Prussia mall...did you guys go there? My gosh it was HUGE!!!!! Anyway looking forward to more.

Ohhh and Claire I'd love to read about your trip!!! :goodvibes

Hi Sarah! I haven't posted in here for ages, but I have been lurking and following along. I finally decided to pop back in and post again. I am loving the "Magical Memory" countdown that you are doing. I agree with all of the things on your list.

I can't believe how close the trip is getting. Less than 2 months now! :cool1:

Ohhh and Claire I'd love to read about your trip!!! :goodvibes
Yay! I started a PTR for it already. The title is "A Mid-Winter Getaway." :) Please check it out. :thumbsup2

COOL!!! I'M SO JEALOUS YOU WENT TO A PHILLIES GAME! It's supposed to be the most vegetarian friendly ballpark, lol! I never knew what Villanova looked like or where exactly it was, but it looks neat! My friend just DROPPED OUT of Princeton with a year left!!! Crazy, but he did have a good reason. Thanks for sharing these pics!

LOL, I didn't know that about Citizens Bank Ballpark. Villanova was really nice. It's fun visiting other college campuses even though I've been there, done that!

oooh I'm such a history nerd and I really wanna teach American History so that trip sounds really cool to me!

I saw a commercial on TV this morning and immediately thought of you...that Titanic exhibit is coming to NY! I'm so excited, I need to find out more info on it because I'm definitely dragging my BF there

I bet you would have such a blast then in Philly! There were so many old buildings, etc. to visit. It was definitely worth the trip.

Ohhh, cool! I hope you get to see the Titanic thing!

Those pictures are too cool! They bring back many fond memories for me as that is the City where I grew up! And believe it or not my High School Graduation ceremoney was held at Villanova!
It was the biggest airconditioned place they could find! Can't wait to see more! :thumbsup2

Glad you like all the pictures. That is funny about your graduation ceremony being held at Villanova!

Yeah, I don't consider myself a big history nerd but I have to say it was so cool seeing where such historical events happened. And the sunset was very pretty. :thumbsup2

No, we didn't go to the mall at all. We were only in Philly for one full day before driving to Princeton.

HI!!!!! :wave2: I know you've been lurking along since you keep telling me that. ;) Glad you like all the memories.

I am excited you started a PTR, I have to go find it now!

Hi DIS friends!

As I mentioned in my last post, my sister Claire is going to Disney World! She just started her very first PTR (woo hoo! :woohoo:). Please check it out. :thumbsup2

A Mid-Winter Getaway

Love the photos of Philadelphia, another place in the US that looks nice and i'll have to think about visiting :)

great mini-TR! I would like to go to Philly one day and do all the historic touristy stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Make sure you post a link here to your sister's PTR when she starts it! :thumbsup2

Enjoyed your side/trip to Philadelphia.
I saw Princeton and Rutger's (sp?) college when we went to NJ 2 years ago.
I also saw that your sister posted a Pre-trip, and I didn't put the connection together right away. I'll have to go back and find it.

Look at my ticker, we finally got together and booked our cruise,
but not a Disney Cruise, so I have to figure out a way to hide my cruise trip plans into a pre-trip. I can't believe I am going into this cruise so blind, I know absolutely nothing, but I"m learning.

I saw you are going to be down in Florida and I was hoping to maybe see you at the airport, but you are going home 2 days later. We all have to get back to work on Monday.

Did you go to Summerfest yet?

Yes, you should just come for a big trip and visit all those places! That would be awesome. :thumbsup2

I posted the link a couple posts up, but here it is again: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2216069

Glad you liked the mini TR too. Yep, my sister did start her own PTR after I kind of forced her into it. haha!

I saw on the Jon and Kate Plus 8 thread a couple days ago you posted and noticed your ticker. That is very exciting you booked the cruise! What are the dates? It looks like you'll be going around the same time as our Disney trip.

I have not gone to Summerfest yet but if the weather's decent my sisters and I may go tomorrow.

LOL, your pictures of Philly are gorgeous, you are a really good photographer. I forget to post that in my last thread.

We are flying out Saturday. Aug. 15 at 6:40 pm and getting into Orlando at 10:00. The flight was $79. I am hoping to get the girls going and maybe trying standby for the noon flight or the 4:00 p.m.

Our Travel Agent told me to book a day early, so we don't miss our cruise. She also said to stay at the airport hotel and catch the shuttle over to Port Canaveral the next morning. The airport hotel is over $200 and the shuttle over to Port Canaveral is $35 a piece. Crazy.

Disney keeps releasing these codes and it is like a vortex that is sucking me in. We should of flown out Friday afternoon and spent some days at Disney or the Wilderness lodge. Rooms are only $129, or $89 for a moderate when I priced them out yesterday.

See why I need a pre-trip report, I have some last minute planning to do yet, and I don't know what to do.

We are definately going back home on Sunday, Aug. 23rd. Cassie has to get back to work.

OK, I officially hi-jacked your thread. Maybe you could put in your heading-help the moderator out, she needs some "serious help" in my thread. LOL.

Aww, thanks for the compliment on the pictures. I try to be creative but that doesn't always work out. But for the most part they turn out pretty decent.

Oooh, Disney codes?! That definitely sounds tempting. I don't know if I could go to Florida and NOT go to Disney...it was bad enough when we had to stay offsite on our trip in 2005 since it was last minute (oh, the horror! :scared1: No, just kidding, we've just been spoiled always staying on Disney property).

You should somehow do a PTR, I want to hear about the cruise!

Happy July everyone!

It's hard to believe my 100-day countdown is now half over! That's right, today is an exciting day for 2 reasons:

1.) Only 50 days until our trip!

2.) We can now say we're going to Disney World NEXT MONTH!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Isn't that crazy?! I feel like school just ended and it's already July. The time is flying by.

Anyways, time for Magical Memory #6.

While this isn't from Disney World, I'm going to share it anyway. As you can tell from my signature, we've been to WDW many times. Since I loved it so much I thought it would be fun sometime to visit Disneyland. But like a lot of people, having been to WDW so many times, I was afraid I'd be disappointed with Disneyland since it's so much smaller. I kept thinking how if I was there I'd wish I was back in Disney World instead.

In 2004, I finally got my chance to visit Disneyland. Dad went to the University of Michigan for law school and thus is a big fan of the football team (my sisters and I are too...Mom says we've been brainwashed ). Well, Michigan ended up being invited to play in the Rose Bowl so Dad, Emma, and I decided to take a trip out to California for a few days. Of course one of the perks of going to CA is Disneyland!! We stayed in one of the Good Neighbor hotels (for those of you who are unfamiliar with DL those are the hotels that are literally right across the street from the resort).

It was so great finally getting to see Walt's original park and getting to ride some of the attractions that WDW doesn't have like the Matterhorn, Indiana Jones, and Alice in Wonderland. We also liked comparing attractions found in both parks (Dad named DL's Splash Mountain the "Splash Mountain Speedway" because it just seemed so much faster, and we agreed that DL's Pirates of the Caribbean is WAY better). Since we were there after Christmas Disneyland was also gearing up for the Happiest Celebration on Earth to celebrate Disneyland's 50th anniversary.

One of my most vivid memories from that trip was from our second day in the parks. It rained most of the time so we figured that since we were already soaking wet we should ride Grizzly River Run (similar to Kali River Rapids) at California Adventure. All I remember was it felt like I gained about 30 pounds because my clothes were DRENCHED. But it was so much fun.

As it turned out, I couldn't have been more wrong in thinking Disneyland would be boring. Emma and I both loved it. In fact, in 2006 Michigan was in the Rose Bowl again so Dad and I went then too. :thumbsup2 To this day Emma and I repeatedly say how we want to go back. And now with the Grand Californian being a DVC resort, we're hoping to some day be able to stay there.

Here's just a couple more pictures from that trip:
The entrance to the resort:

Sleeping Beauty Castle. One of my favorite quotes I heard from that trip was "The castle in Disney World OWNS this castle!" haha

By one of our favorite attractions!

And of course meeting Mickey!

AW, cool memories! I was disappointed with Disneyland when I went because I thought it was the same as Disney World. Now that I know it isn't, and if I knew what to do there, I'd probably really enjoy it! What's the Alice ride? I loved the Matterhorn and Indiana Jones!

Woo!! We're going to Disney World NEXT MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo::banana:

Love that quote you heard about Sleeping Beauty's Castle. It's so true! I think SB castle looks like something squashed it down. It just look so...compact. Cinderella's Castle is just far superior.

See, you snuck your DisneyLand Trip in here.
I think I figured out a way.
Me and my 2 sisters are going to WDW April 2011-gasp, long ways away.
Maybe I'll start it that way, and say, but guess what-a RC Cruise first.:rotfl:

Aww, that stinks you didn't like it! I went in knowing it wasn't going to be the same so maybe that helped. All I know is I really want to go back! Especially since there are supposed to be a lot of changes at California Adventure.

The Alice ride is in Fantasyland, it's pretty much like all the other dark rides like Pooh, Peter Pan, etc. It's pretty cool because part of it's outside!

I KNOW, can you believe that?!:eek::eek: Sooooo excited.

Yeah, I thought it was funny when the guy said that. The first time we walked into Disneyland park I was taken by surprise...I was like where is the castle?! :confused3 haha!

haha, well that works! Bummer you're not going next April, that's when I'm going again.

WOOHOO next month!!

YEAH!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

So we leave for Disney World in 49 days. AKA 7 weeks. 7 WEEKS!! :dance3::dance3: That means there are only 7 more Thursdays until we are on a plane to Orlando. WOOT!

I suppose since we are getting so close I could share some more plans. ;)

Emma and I still need to get our park tickets (Dad has an annual pass). On our past few trips we've gotten the 10-day park hoppers with the no-expiration option which we plan on doing again. That way our tickets will get us through this trip and another trip.

As for which parks we'll go to each day, that' still to be decided. Because we'll have park hoppers we'll visit one park in the morning at opening, take a mid-afternoon break, and then go back to another park later in the day. Usually we try to visit each park twice: the first visit is for our favorite attractions and then the second time we do what we missed the first time or just do our favorites once more. I'll get more into favorites/must-dos in a later post.

We also still want to go to Blizzard Beach. I don't know if we'll add the waterpark option to our tickets since we're only planning on going there once.

Something else I've got to do before this trip is get a new pair of shoes. The ones I have right now are pretty worn out...I don't want to end up sore from not having a decent pair of shoes.

Oh yes, and of course I need to start gathering quarters and pennies so I can add to my pressed penny collection! :teeth:

That's all I've got for now. Have a great night!

Love your Disneyland pics, make me more excited for my trip in september and woohoo at you leaving for Disneyworld next month
