Our Biggest Celebration Surpise Trip Ever!!! Update 8/21

Looks like a wonderful vacation of surprises! Who doesn't LOVE that!!!!! Last year we went to WDW as a family in December (oldest son was attending the mlb winter meetings looking for a job). It was the first time we vacationed together as a family of 5 in 11 years. We stayed at Pop and had a blast!!!!! During the summer last year free dining came out for January so myself and a girlfriend planned a girls only trip! Yep, just like you, I had two trips planned to WDW in 2 months. It was so much fun doing all the planning. I can't wait to start planning our next trip or trips! ;) I hope you're able to do a trip report when you return. I can't wait to hear all about the family's reaction to the surprises!!!!! HAVE FUN on your vacation!!!!!

I am super excited, 3 weeks from today, they find out they are going to disney instead of Myrtle Beach. The only thing that has helped me not tell the kids by now is not having all 3 of them here at one time.

So tired of the rain, I am ready for summer. I am originally from Alliance Ohio, what a small world

Just started to read your pre-trip report and saw where you're originally from.....Alliance,,,,We're from Hubbard, Ohio and drive to Alliance to board Amtrak for WDW.....we've done 44 trips so far and are headed back for trip 45 this September.......

We've stayed at the BC a few times when our daughter was in the CP a bunch of years ago.....Y&B is an amazing resort with a pool to match....it will be a big, great surprise for your family over the values.......the awe factor will blow them away and to be within a short walk to EPCOT.....

I'm going to read the rest of the thread and chime in...have a great big wonderful trip and enjoy the surprise....

How long of a trip is it via Amtrak from Alliance? I think my cousin just bought a house in hubbard, not sure, but sounds right.

Thanks for chiming in, hope to hear your thoughts and opintions on what we have so far.

This coming Friday will be 2 weeks from the day we are going to tell the kids. We are thinking about telling the kids this weekend we are going to Disney, but not anything else. I am thinking it may be a little to much for all of the surprises the way I have them planned. What do you think?

I understand how you feel. You are sitting on pins and needles I'm guessing. I know I would be and I'd probably go ahead and tell them. I'm guessing it will be just as much fun for them to "bug" you with questions about the trip. :) Of course, that's just me. Sometimes we (me) build up the surprise so much that we're (I'm) disappointed in the reaction after its out of the bag. Do you know what I'm talking about. Haha. I know I'm holding back a surprise trip for my DH only to California to visit his brothers. He knows nothing and I'm guessing when I tell him about his upcoming trip he's going to be stressing about it instead of excited. That's just Him!!!! I'm looking forward to your vacation surprise whenever it is! Are you getting any sleep thinking about all of this???? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No I am not getting any sleep LOL, I hope they are happy. I just don't know what to tell them

Quite a few years ago (I think about 7) we surprised our oldest two sons with a trip to spring training with their Dad (Mom and little brother stayed home). It was Valentine's Day so I got the boys one card and punched out hearts and wrote out something like Arizona Cubs Spring Training with Dad. They had to figure it out (yes, it took awhile and I probably helped them a little). It's fun to think back about that day (yes, I still remember them sitting at the kitchen table). Better yet though is when they talk about it now and how much fun they had with their Dad by themselves. :) Maybe a suggestion would be Myrtle Beach = Beach Club, WDW. Something like that. Is there a game they like to play? Hang Man? Separate envelopes for each child with one word scrambled up and they have to figure out the word and put it all together. Ok, enough ideas from this person. I love planning Disney trips!!!!!!!!!! Whatever you do will be special and your family will have the time of their lives!!!!!!!!! Make a decision so you can SLEEP!!!!! :rotfl2:

I have kept this a surprise for so long and had built myself up to telling them the night before we are going to DW instead of Myrtle Beach, then when we get off ME finding out we are staying at the BC and CL at that. I just don't want to tell them this weekend we are going to DW and they figure out the rest before we leave. I just feel we (I) need to tell them so they can be prepared for what we are doing. My DD will be 20 next week and is a planner/packer, I am afraid she will freak out if she has to change the plan at the last minute. I am so confused and don't know what to do

Looks like we are going to tell them we are going to Disney on Friday night. Thoughts are it will give them time to get anything they would need for disney vs the beach. We aren't going to tell them where we are staying or what we are doing, but maybe get their opinion on which park they want to go to. I want to go to MK since we are going next year and going to Epcot. So, Friday night, I will sit them all down on the couch and give them their vacation books and wait to see their expressions. I hope they are excited as me. They will still find out where we are staying when we get there.

When you get inline at ME from the airport, does it say which hotels the bus is going to? I wasn't going to tell them the hotel until we got there.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Hooray a plan. Better yet..................Friday is almost here. Can't wait to hear what your kids have to say. I'm sure all will be great. It might take a few minutes for the shock to wear off. ;) Better yet your trip is almost here!!!!!!!!! I need to start planning a trip NOW. LOL. Disney Dreams to You!!!!!!

Thank you, I will let you know how it goes.

I think your plan to tell them sounds great! Like you said, it will give them time to get anything ready that they will need for the trip.

A friend surprised her two DDs with a trip to Sea World for Spring Break... told them they were going to the "aquarium", LOL! After a few hours on the road (it should've just taken one hour to get there) her girls (ages 13 and 10) finally noticed something wasn't right and asked where they were going. When my friend spilled the beans, her oldest actually started crying... because she couldn't believe her parents LIED to her! You don't want that to happen, so I think it's good to give the kids a few days to get used to the idea!

I have no idea about Magical Express... I've never used the service (never flown to WDW). So I don't know if the lines show what resorts the bus goes to, or if the Cast Member will direct you to the line for your resort when you check in.

I can not wait, this day is going to go slow until 4:30-5:00 when I can finally let the cat out of the bag.

Glad the reveal went well!!!!!!!!! You should be able to rest your mind now for a few days. :) Enjoy all the questions from the kids!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Weekend Over, now hope the next week and 5 days goes by quickly. We have a concert this weekend and my sister will be in town so will be busy this week, then when she leaves I can set all the suitcases on the guest bed and start packing, well started packing over the weekend, just have to put clothes in them. I have 2 ways I can blow off the ME thing if they question why we are going on the BC bus vs POP bus. 1 is to tell them it is the bus I was told to be on, or #2-since none of them know how ME works, tell them we have reservations at BC to eat.

1 week and 5 days!!!!

You're quite the sneaky/tricky Mom! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: My husband's surprise trip to California was just ruined this week by my father-in-law. UGH. Glad your's went better than mine. :) I love surprising the family, it's so much fun. Enjoy the next 12 days!!!!!!!!!!!!
