Our beloved Chef Mickeys is now off our list

what isn't slated to open til 2009:confused3 ...the contruction inside the Contemporary has nothing to do with the construction of the new DVC and that isn't interfering with Chef Mickeys...

That's what I'm wondering too.

We are paying big bucks to stay in the tower 12/23-27-08 and were assured that the construction *inside* the tower would be completed by then...

Now I'm a bit worried. :sad2:

Does anybody know if the construction continues on Sundays? WE happen to have a 10 am brunch reservation for a Sunday in mid-October.

Thanks!

Last month when I was at the Contemporary I asked several Cast Members when the construction on the 4th floor would be finished and each time I was given a different answer. The most common one I heard was between October and December of this year, so let's hope that is true.

I want to counsel caution in your concerns. We too were very worried about how bad it was going to be at Chef Mickey's. Before we left for Disney World, having read so many negative concerns on here, we almost switched our reservations. I'm very glad we didn't. Bear in mind that people's perceptions from the Monorail platform, or even from the check in desk are not always the same as the conditions inside the restaurant. Also, everyone's tolerance for inconvenience is different.

We were there a few weeks ago. We ate at Chef Mickey's both for lunch and dinner. During lunch time, the noise walking up to the podium was really loud. We were virtually shouting over the CM as we were checking in. I thought it was going to be miserable inside Chef Mickey's and figured we might have to leave.

But it wasn't miserable. Not at all. Don't ask me to explain the dynamics of noise but once you move away from the check in desk and over to your table, at least where we sat, the noise was minimal. I would expect the noise over in the section of the dining room by the dessert bar to be louder. We were seated directly across from the center of the buffet.

We did not see any dust and there was no work going on near the food areas.

At dinner time, there was no work going on at all.

I understand the work on the new quick service place should be done in October. But of course, nothing is certain. I would think if you had plans to be there in December or afterwards, you won't have any of these issues to contend with.

Again, everyone's experience might vary, but if you love eating at Chef Mickey's and you have an upcoming reservation, don't let a few experiences from other people scare you off. If you get to your table and you find the noise unbearable, you can ask to have your table moved to the other side of the restaurant. I'm about as picky as it gets when it comes to inconvenience and in our experience, eating there two times during our stay, once you got past the check in desk, the noise and smell were not an issue. And while your mileage my vary, when it comes to Disney World as with all things, no situation is perfect. You could be seated in a completely construction-noise free restaurant, like say 1900 Park Faire and get seated next to a large party of loud people and have a waitress who disappears for 30 minutes at a time.

Just my .02. I hope that helps some of you who have upcoming visits planned.

:moped:
And these are two cents that I would listen to.
Not only does this poster make alot of sense with his comments.. he writes one hell of a trip report.:rotfl:
Seriously.. this is wise advice.. give it some consideration folks:)

We ate at Chef Mickey's a couple weeks ago for dinner at 8:00 pm. There was no construction going on. We didn't see any dust or smell anything. They also have these huge boards, like walls, up around the check in desk and entrance to Chef Mickey's. We sat in the second dining room, and once inside, we couldn't even see the construction.

I agree that everyone's experiences are different. I would keep any ADRs and maybe just have a back up.

Thanks to everyone for their input and opinions. CM is a tradition for us so I have ADR for Oct. and Dec. I'm going to keep them and evaluate as necessary when we get there. :thumbsup2

The DVC tower construction is slated to last until fall (september) 2009. I would anticipate the interior construction next to Chef Mickey's to only last for the next 6-8 weeks? How long does it take to build a QSR?

That's awful that it's creating such a bad experience right now. Hopefully the worst part (burning and noise) will be over soon? My family loves Chef Mickey's. We'd be so sad if we had to leave because it was unbearable. :(

We ate Dinner at Chef Mickeys on 9/15 at 4:50pm and there was no smell nor construction going on. Our dinner was perfect

I want to like Chef Mickey's, I really do but we were there last September and the food was awful. :sad1: Maybe we hot them on an off night or perhaps breakfast is better?

we were there Sat, Sept. 6 about 5 pm. No noise, no smells, no dust. We were seated directly across from the buffet so I guess you could call it the main room. The only disturbance we had was the 2/3 yr old girl next to us who didn't want to sit still. It was her birthday, they brought her a cupcake with a candle, and she was just so hyper lol. I had my own 2 yr old, not to mention the 3 elementary age dd's and the 2 teen ds's, so she didn't bother us at all. Probably the other way around lol.
We had no complaints about the food either. The only difference I found was it seemed like there were fewer choices then before. We hadn't been there in 2 yrs tho, so I might be mistaken. We definately got our money's worth with my crew. Even ds2 managed to eat a fairly balanced meal before hitting the dessert bar.

I don't remember if anyone mentioned this but the construction was only happening during the mornings and was finished in the afternoon, so anyone with ADR's for dinner was not effected.
