Our beloved Chef Mickeys is now off our list

I cancelled my ADR for our breakfast in November. I have been wondering if it was a good idea. But now reading about the sounds and the smells of the construction, I know my asthmatic son couldnt handle it. I guess my mommy vibes were kicking in!:goodvibes

We did the same thing. When we got off the monorail, we literally saw a cloud of construction dust over the restaurant. There was no way I would ever eat in a restaurant that is completely exposed to that. The noise was much louder than I expected. I couldn't believe it. We walked right up to the podium and canceled our ADR.

Did you tell them why you were cancelling? The CMs that we spoke to were not surprised that we left. I think a lot of people must be doing the same thing.

Ruby what time was your ADR?

I am sure the interruption is also depending on what they are doing that day construction wise. I cannot imaging having them open to serving meals while sanding drywall is going on, but you never know

glad thsat many were able to make alternative arrangements. Not a pleasant way to eat, that is for sure:scared:

I would hope that they would do something about the situation- how healthy is it to expose people (kids) to that???
Perhaps if enough people cancel ADRs they will react.
We aren't going till March, and dinner at Chef Mickey's is going to be the highlight of the trip, so I sure do hope it is ok by then!

I agree, how healthy can it be to serve food with all that construction going on right there???
And we are planning on eating there in March too--we missed it our last trip since we all got sick, I REALLY hope we don't have to miss it again!:sad2:

Yeah.. I'd think that operating while there's dust in the air like that would be against health department regulations.... It's unsanitary. And unhealthy for people who suffer from dust allergies (like me) or asthmatic individuals....

We have a 10:20am ressie for CM during our honeymoon this December. Should I change it?

Does the construction affect California Grill too?

When I was there last week I was surprised at the thought that they are even open with the deplorable conditions I saw. The restaurant looks to currently be operating with about 1/2 their normal seating capacity and the construction is going on right next to the area where the food is served on the buffet line. I wouldn't want to eat there under those conditions. I would advise anyone planning to eat there in the near future to seriously reconsider and make reservations elsewhere.

Oh no:eek:
This is our son's favorite place to eat and we have it booked the very first night because of this. We are going the middle of December.

UGH this is our first night tradition! At first I figured construction "should" be over by 5pm, but who knows? It doesn't sound so great.

The kids will be sad...Nana delighted!

Is this costruction affecting THe Wave?
Thanks

We have an ADR for 9 next Friday night the 26th. It's our first night with all of us. I've seen the video on youtube of the noise but haven't heard anything about smells and dust.

Should I make a back up,in case we can't stand it. What else close by?

I want to counsel caution in your concerns. We too were very worried about how bad it was going to be at Chef Mickey's. Before we left for Disney World, having read so many negative concerns on here, we almost switched our reservations. I'm very glad we didn't. Bear in mind that people's perceptions from the Monorail platform, or even from the check in desk are not always the same as the conditions inside the restaurant. Also, everyone's tolerance for inconvenience is different.

We were there a few weeks ago. We ate at Chef Mickey's both for lunch and dinner. During lunch time, the noise walking up to the podium was really loud. We were virtually shouting over the CM as we were checking in. I thought it was going to be miserable inside Chef Mickey's and figured we might have to leave.

But it wasn't miserable. Not at all. Don't ask me to explain the dynamics of noise but once you move away from the check in desk and over to your table, at least where we sat, the noise was minimal. I would expect the noise over in the section of the dining room by the dessert bar to be louder. We were seated directly across from the center of the buffet.

We did not see any dust and there was no work going on near the food areas.

At dinner time, there was no work going on at all.

I understand the work on the new quick service place should be done in October. But of course, nothing is certain. I would think if you had plans to be there in December or afterwards, you won't have any of these issues to contend with.

Again, everyone's experience might vary, but if you love eating at Chef Mickey's and you have an upcoming reservation, don't let a few experiences from other people scare you off. If you get to your table and you find the noise unbearable, you can ask to have your table moved to the other side of the restaurant. I'm about as picky as it gets when it comes to inconvenience and in our experience, eating there two times during our stay, once you got past the check in desk, the noise and smell were not an issue. And while your mileage my vary, when it comes to Disney World as with all things, no situation is perfect. You could be seated in a completely construction-noise free restaurant, like say 1900 Park Faire and get seated next to a large party of loud people and have a waitress who disappears for 30 minutes at a time.

Just my .02. I hope that helps some of you who have upcoming visits planned.

Thank you for the above post. Sometimes you plan and plan and when you know ahead of time of possible problems you can make yourself crazy. This can be good or bad.

I think we're going to keep what we have and have a plan B in the back of our minds if things don't work out. We just really love Chef Mickey's for our first night.

Thanks for the positive point of view.

Very well worded and nicely stated! I completely agree! Let's really give it some thought and then again...don't. That's not Disney style, come on, construction, dust flying by the food...highly unlikely. Besides, do you have any idea how many lovely creatures inhabit your favorite food places at home?

btw...LUVTHATTINK.. what time is your ADR on the 7th? we'll be there for dinner on that same day....

I'm sorry to hear that, you would have thought Disney would have figured
out to do construction with being bothersome to the customers. Usually they are very discreet, anyway I am sure next you go there it will be as wonderful as before

We have dinner ressies for 2nd week of Oct, should we cancel? Were staying @ CR & have never been to CM, but I will NOT eat in a construction zone:rotfl:

They aren't slated to open until Sept. 2009...so I would imagine construction will be going on for a while still. We have ressies on 10/7...hopefully it won't smell that bad!:confused3

what isn't slated to open til 2009:confused3 ...the contruction inside the Contemporary has nothing to do with the construction of the new DVC and that isn't interfering with Chef Mickeys...the construction inside next to Chef Mickeys is suppose to be finished long before the DVC tower:confused3
