Our 4th FP+ of the day...

forgive me if this has already been asked, my brain is on overload getting ready for this trip!
But does my entire party need to come with me to the kiosk for the 4th fp, or can I take care of that myself for everyone?

Just the fact that everyone can make 3 FP+ reservations in advance goes a long way toward creating a more level distribution of FPs.

If the super users do have an advantage, they will be getting an advantage over a much smaller piece of the pie than they used to have.

Not to mention that we don't know how some of these things will work as the system continues to evolve.

Yes, but, the old system built in a 2 hour gap between FPs. This new system seems to allow for adjacent ( if not overlapping) FPs. I'm not so sure the super users are fighting over a smaller slice. When users are forced to tier at Epcot and 2 of their 3 initial FPs are largely not needed, the race is on for the rest of the day. Strategy and knowledge are far more meaningful now.

It's almost as if the system was actually designed to let guests use it to suit their individual preferences while giving Disney some ability to manage inventory for the mass of guests.

;)

Sounds like an apt description of FP- ;)

does anybody know.... do you have to USE all three of your fp before you can book the 4th (what if you don't make one or skip one) can you book a 4th as soon as the 3rd ones time expires even if you only used 2 of the fp you booked earlier that day?

I have not seen a post where someone has confirmed this if staying in the same park. The information in the media stated that this could be done if changing to a different park but I was wondering if it would work in the same park as well.

If this works for the same park and the expired original FPs can be rebooked and the additional can be used with addtional ones selected after that then it could make for an interesting strategy. I suspect that the system won't allow this but really want to know. It could be good for folks that want to ride the same ride multiple times or severl tier 1 attractions.

Has anyone tried to book a fastpass for wishes after they used their 3 ? Was it available ? This is what I'm hoping we can do but I'm doubtful that there will be any left ?

No kidding-I would go today just to check this thing out if I could-curse you Shaden. :rotfl:

Hahaha ... no cursing. This is exactly what I am planning for sat at MK.

It's supposed to rain though ... so the real tests will be throughout the week. I am going to try and break FP records ... if bumping and stacking is really possible. Flight leaves in 7 hours 23 min ...

No, it didn't, at least not in the last few years. You could get a new FP at the EARLIER of (1) two hours after you pulled a FP, or (2) the return time of the FP.

The overall pie may have grown because more attractions now have FPs than before, but the vast majority of the angst expressed by the most ardent detractors of FP+ involves the FPs for the most popular attractions. I don't think anyone is going to be too excited if they can get more FPs for the tier 2 attractions at Epcot and DHS. If you are talking about the availablity of FPs for things like TSMM, RNRC, Soarin, or TT, the pie of FPs available for same day use has shrunk dramatically, and it's going to be very difficult for anyone to get as many of those as they could before except maybe on the very least crowded of days.

Strategy and knowledge have ALWAYS been valuable, even before there were FPs at all. It's just that the strategy has to evolve as the system evolves.

I will say this. If the net result of all of this is that the super users conclude that they have a bigger advantage than they had under the FP system, it will be the greatest irony of the century. Of course, even if they could do more with FP+ than they could with paper FP, they would never admit it, and would still find something to complain about, like the fact that they miss hugging those little slips of paper.

Anyone know if the 4th FP+ can be used for MSEP, Wishes, Illuminations etc? That will help when I choose my initial FP in my

That really depends.

Even if I am able to push the limits of the new system to squeeze a little more out of it, I will still dislike that I am required to commit to my primary FP selections 2 months out, and that I don't have the flexibility to just change parks on a whim on a given day. I also dislike the idea that to maximize FP, I will need to be glued to the smart phone I would rather just put in my backpack and forget about for the day.

Plus, it's really going to take time to see if the availability of a 4th (plus subsequent FPs) is going to make one bit of difference in overcoming the tiers at DHS and Epcot during all but the slowest weeks.

This is the best and most informative FP+ thread yet. I am curious how 4 5 6 FP's will work in the MK as far as availability goes in a busier time but i think Disney listened and it seems to be working look forward to more updates

Thanks

Exactly. This is just craziness now.

"Ill use all my FP+ in the morning, when I don't need them, so I can roll the dice on some afternoon bonus FP+. Hey, it worked, but I am here during a dead period. Still, I'm sure this will still work in the Summer. It is Disney afterall. FP+ is Sooooo much better than FP-, 4> 6, 7 or 8!!!"

Not a knock on the OP, very glad she was able to do what she did. However, doesn't the above give one pause that super users are going to be able to take advantage of this system far more than they could under the old system? For those that think this new system levels the playing field, I would think that the above explanation should disabuse that notion.

""shhhh" don't tell Disney! :debwalk:

Does anyone know if Disney did any research/surveys to find out if people would actually prefer to use their smartphones so much while touring? I've seen a few oats now where people would like to be "disconnected" from technology at the parks but FP+ makes that nearly impossible.

My experience today (5/2) with the 4th FP+ wasn't particularly great (but not unexpected I guess). Went to DHS today around 6PM on a day that it had rained/stormed since 2PM so thought the crowds might be a little lighter. Park closed at 9:30PM and when we arrived there were no FP+ available for Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror or Rock n Roller Coaster. We could get one for Star Tours but didn't want to ride and standby was only 10 minutes. Ended up riding Rock n Roller Coaster in single rider line and had about a 15 minute wait. Imagine availability will be much more limited duing the busy season.

it's called luck with empty parks. Try it during peak times.

FP+ is garbage

Apparently far more people have and use them in the Parks than Disney originally expected so they were able to save money by not installing as many kiosks.

I'm 54 - so not a young pup - and I love having my phone with me in the park. It is my phone, I'll Facebook an occasional picture, check wait times with apps and also use the FP+. Works great. I can still put it away and have plenty of fun. More fun that running to get FP.

Disney claimed early on that their research told them people wanted to interact more with their mobile devices in the parks.

I think they conducted this "research" by asking everyone in their IT department.

They were giving paper FPs today with all the glitches, which really screwed up some of the FP lines since the paper FPs were good for any ride.

We also tested the MB FP in a new way for us. Splash was down during our time and we were able to use the MB at the FP line hours later without issue. We then went to Peter Pan to use the paper FP we had gotten, my daughter instinctively held her band to the Mickey and it turned green. We never held a FP for PP for today, so not sure what was going on there. I had her do it at the second checkpoint just to see what happened, it turned green again. We turned in our paper FP and were on our way, but I was curious if the system was just greenlighting everyone because of all the issues today.
