Our 1st family trip without a diaper bag! Jan 2012 PTR

Hi there! Thanks for joining in!!:goodvibes What a freeing feeling to be going with no diapers (nappies!), isn't it? After of years of it with the kids! Now the question is, what kind of bad do I carry?! Have you given any thought for yourself? :confused3 My DH will carry a backpack, with essentials, sweatshirts, ponchos, etc.

Thanks for joining me! Are doing a PTR for your land/sea trip? How exciting for you!!!

No diapers  No more fitting in change stops just toilets breaks for all.

Our travel to wdw starts at a very similiar time to yours,we get up about 4 am head to the airport for a 6 am shuttle to London then we fly to Orlando around 11am, the only small......... well major difference we have a 9 hour flight :scared1:

We have never been to the world in January but have November and December experiences of being chilly at night, during the day a mixture of weather for light clothes (shorts/tshirts) and weather for layers (sweaters during the day and scarfs/jackets in the evening).

Wow my kids would love doing whatever they want to do, mum tends to have a park strategy :rotfl2: We do give them freedom on the non-commando days!

That is a good thought about what type of bag to carry not really sure :confused3 We will still have a buggy (stroller) with us so normally we have a bagpack with all the essentials, I am thinking the same as the buggy will still carry this :thumbsup2

I sure loved doing a ptr last year so I'm def going to start one,I didn't get to finish by trip report due to other pressures so may have to add a little of this also :goodvibes

Okay...better late than never, right? I just saw that you started your PTR. I have been a bad DISer lately. Blame it on the long weekend.

I have never been to WDW in January, we usually go in May or Oct/Nov. But, I would think layers would be the way to go.

Can't wait to hear more!

Climbing aboard! Can't wait to hear all about the plans! ASM suites does sound perfect for you. Even with little time spent in the room, I am sure the extra space will come in handy. :thumbsup2

MK on day one sounds great! The boys will love being able to pick what you do first. The trip is a surprise, right? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

Here are some questions for my DIS friends, we've been to Disney in early December, but never in mid January. I'm thinking layers? Anyone have a good feel on the weather that time of year? Will we be swimming? Remember, we're coming from Boston, so it will be warm to us in January, we are New Englanders! Any thoughts? Thanks!!

We went in January 2009 and the weather was perfect! We wore t-shirts/shorts during the day (sometimes a tank top) and changed into jeans and brought zip-up hoodies at night. We stayed off property, so we always rented a locker for our night time clothes. Madison and Tony went swimming one afternoon too. The pools are heated, so I guess it just depends on the air temperature.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for help! I"m having a terrible time with my photobucket account, is that what everyone else uses when posting pics here? Any other recommendations for another site to use? :confused3 I just tried to load 1 picture and it took 20 minutes and then crashed and it was giving me a hard time last week, too. Thanks!!

Hope to get another update done, soon!

Hmm...I've been using photobucket, and haven't had any problems. Have you tried using a different browser? That's all I can think of. I think you can store photos for free on Flickr, too, but IME it's more complicated linking to the pics on another site than photobucket is.

Sorry no help from me I use photobucket and I am hopeless with IT issues, I hope you get it sorted :goodvibes

My photo bucket is working fine, hmmm. Do people use flickr on here too? I think that is the other one.
My Dh is from the Boston area. He grew up in Easton.

Your boys are so handsome.
I can't wait to hear how you plan to pull off the surprise. I just realized that my last 4 trips to WDW involved diapering a baby and I am so excited b/c I do not h ave to do that this trip. Although I am cheating by just not taking the possibly still diapered kid. When we left WDW last time DH and I agreed that we had changed our last Disney diaper.
I think the family suite sounds really great. Who are you working for? We use Magical Travel.

I've been in January twice now (favorite time of year) and layers are the way to go. It's gets downright chilly at night, especially in Epcot around World Showcase.

During the day, I usually wear jeans, teva mush flip flops, a tshirt and a hoodie or long sleeve tee during the day. The hoodie/long sleeve tee comes off usually by lunch. At night, I wear my sneakers or flip flops with those cute little toe socks cause my toesies get chilly, some nights I had a very lightweight scarf especially if I'm watching fireworks or a parade. Of course I have my hoodie on and sometimes my long sleeve tee as well.

I have been known to wear capris on somedays because the afternoons can get warm.

Thanks LL, good to know that January is your favorite time of year to go! We LOVED going early December, it was cool in the mornings, I'd wear jeans, flip flops and a tshirt with a hoodie, by late morning, the hoodie would come off and by night it was was back on. It was the perfect touring weather for us! We weren't sweating our rears off and I didn't worry about the boys dehydrating or getting burnt to a crisp! I'm hoping the same for January!:thumbsup2
When we went this past Feb it was down right cold in the evening. We didn't swim at all and as you know I'm Canadian. Mind you I still wore my flip flops but did have a jacket on. Some days it was warm then cooled off considerably in the evening.

Tony's is one of my favourites. You can't go wrong there thats for sure. :)

Oh no! I hope I don't have to bring hats and gloves for us! We may go over our 50 lbs free for each person flying if I have to bring that many layers!

I'm not sure I'd swim, but the boys probably would love it, you know how kids are, they don't care that their lips are blue, they just keep swimming!

We love Tony's too, one of our staples!

No diapers  No more fitting in change stops just toilets breaks for all.

I know, such freedom!!!! It's the little things in life, right? I know, kind of crazy to let the kids have free rein that 1st day but I think we'll all be so tired, that I dont want to be a crazy planned Mom just yet, just kind of take it in, get on a ride if we can, enjoy the sights and smells of MK!:cloud9: I can't wait!!!!

Let me know if you end up doing a PTR! :goodvibes

Hi C!!!!!! Glad you're here!!:goodvibes I'm excited about ASM suites, just the space and everyone having their own beds, it's the little things in life!:cloud9:

This is a SURPRISE trip! Not sure how we're doing it yet, if you have any ideas, let me know!! Thanks for reading!!:goodvibes

Thanks Meg! Sounds like i'm going to have to pack a litte bit of everything and watch Accuweather right up until we leave! Thankfully the boys will be in school so I can pack.

True about the pools, I think the boys would love it, being January and in Disney!

Thanks guys! It's giving me trouble today, too!:headache: Hmm, not sure what the deal is, I'll keep trying, I'll apologize in advance for the lack of pics today if I can't getting up and running.

Hi! Thanks for joining me!!:goodvibes

Thanks for the tip on flickr, will check it out. I must be doing something wrong! It comes up, let's me upload and then gives me error messages. :headache:

Small world with your hubby from this area! Do you get up here often to visit?

Thank you for your kind compliment on my boys, I think so, too, but I'm a little biased! So exciting to not have to change diapers!:yay: And carry a HUGE diaper bag with sooo much stuff! Such freedom!! LOL!! Are you sneaking away for an adult vacation?:woohoo:

I'll send you a PM about who I'm working for, we're not suppose to say here.

Thanks reading!!:goodvibes

Just popping on to say I hope you got photobucket prob sorted out. Oh and I started ptr figured its never to early to start ......... 391 days and counting :rotfl:

Hi Kristen!! Sorry I'm just now getting over here, I haven't had much time to DIS lately :sad2:

I had no idea that you were a Disney travel agent now! When did that happen? Are you loving it? Pretty soon we are all going to be travel agents and there will be no one left to sell travel to

I'm here. Sorry I'm late, but I'm here! Can't wait to hear all about it and live vicariously through you for this trip. :cheer2:

Joining in- took me a while to realize you had scrapped your TR- i was a bit behind:)

Hi there!
Thanks for joining me!!

We have lots in common!! Where near Boston did you live? We are South of the city on the South shore.

When is your trip? So exciting! I'm going back and forth about the stroller...Cole is only 4 and loves to be carried by Daddy and completely takes advantage of that from time to time. But obviously Todd can't carry our 40 lb. "baby" through Disney all week. Do you think your 5 year old will do okay without one? The last couple of trips we've used our sit and stand, but I got rid of it, since last trip no one really used it. So all I have is my Maclaren umbrella type stroller...it's lightweight but has no cup holders or storage. SO not sure yet about that one....

LOVE Pop! So sad we outgrew it! But I guess we could do the two rooms, like you guys. Someday I'd love to try Art of Animation, too!!

Hope you stick around!!:goodvibes

re: the stroller- there are a bunch of attachable cup holders. we added one for our last trip and it helped. we just slung a bag with a short strap across the bag of our umbrella stroller. at 4 my dd used her stroller tons. at 5 1/2 she used it less- it was more of a forced thing- but it definitely helped with going longer days. she still fell asleep in it a couple of nights. i definitely feel it made it easier for us- but we already had to deal with the stroller parking etc for ds2 so it wasn't really adding any extra hassle for us.

Good morning!!! Again! As I told you this AM, I am having huge withdrawls lately. So, not only did I read through all of my old TR and PTRs...I found your new PTR! And Oh, how I have missed the dancing banana!!! Your PTR sounds great so far. I don't think I knew it was a surprize!?! That just screams Christmas present...a box with the Mickey balloon...just sayin! Oh, I can't wait to hear your plans, ideas, thoughts on that!

Hi guys!

I'm here! Had issues with my photobucket, think I got things sorted out some! We've been so busy with the boys starting school, getting back into sports and juggling the routine, but I will say it's nice to be back into the groove of things.]

So as of today, we have only 107 more days! One more week and I'll be in double digits! WOOHOO!!!!

I've been busy picking up things here and there for our trip, just some small things we can use as part of the suprise for the boys! Did I tell you we decided to get them their own luggage? Well, now that they are bigger, the ones we had no longer fit much so we got them all matching suitcases with wheels, so they can help. I got a great deal through Walmart.com and we've hide them in our secret spot so no one will find them!

I think we've decided that we will be surprising them on Christmas morning with the trip! :santa: This will be out gift to them, along with a few other small things for them to open for our trip. I'm thinking we'lll some how use the new luggage as part of it...maybe put a sign in each suit case with a balloon? I don't know...open for suggestions here!! ;) We went back and forth on the surprise, Todd really wanted to just wake them up, car packed in the wee hours of the morning and head to Logan, but as I said to him, we're not really in a position to go all out for Christmas and then two weeks later surprise them with a trip to Disney! So we're coordinating the two and this way it will give the kids a couple of weeks to "help" us plan our trip....little do they know I"ll have it all ironed out, thanks to your help! :rotfl:

Going to attempt to post some pics now, thanks for being patient with me and thanks again for reading! Details to follow.....

Just popping on to say I hope you got photobucket prob sorted out. Oh and I started ptr figured its never to early to start ......... 391 days and counting :rotfl:

Thanks for checking on me!!:goodvibes And no, never too early to start yoru countdown!!!! ;)

Hi Michelle! I know the feeling well, time just goes by and days start to blend, I hear you! SO glad you're here!!!

Yes, I started about a year ago, took a break, as I was busy with Real estate but missed it so much so I"m back and so glad I am, I really missed it and LOVE it! And you're so right!!! LOL!! ;)

I'm here. Sorry I'm late, but I'm here! Can't wait to hear all about it and live vicariously through you for this trip. :cheer2:

SO glad you're here Tracy!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Hi there! glad you found me!!:goodvibes I know, I apologize for not finishing my last TR, sometimes life gets in the way of DIS, unfortunately! :(

Good idea on the cup holders...I love that stroller and really think we *need* something but as soon as Cole gets out, it flips, grrr...:headache: Maybe I should just get a cheapy umbrella stroller and sell mine. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

Hey Leighan, sooo glad you're here! And yes, I feel your withdrawals! I can't wait to chat with you about things!! Yes, we're surprising the kids, and you wouldn't beleive how many times recently they've told me they want to go back, it's so hard not to say anything!!!
