Ouch!! No good deals announced!! No fd!!

oh! so you can either get free dining or you can get the room discount? but you can't do both? i guess i was confused because the information came in the same email. dang. well..i'll work something out. :D

Correct- one or the other. You have to figure out which works out best for you. One other advantage of the package (free dining) is that you can use the Disney Visa and get 6 months interest free as well. Room only you can't but also don't have to pay until you get there.

Does anyone else think maybe they are/were waiting to see what Universal is offering for WWOHP? They just released information on when it's opening and I'm sure that it will draw some people away from Disney (not for long and not that many). IMO there is no comparison but if Universal accomplishes what they set out to do for their new park (doubtful - I was there when it opened) then it could impact Disney at least a little bit.

Patiently waiting for something - anything to be announced. popcorn::

Maybe, I think you make a good point. I think they will be offering some kind of deal though. I am very curious to why they are waiting. Maybe they are not anticipating it to be slow at that time. Harry Potter would draw visitors to Universal 1 or 2 days but they may also visit WDW for the rest of the vacation which would make it busy. I am glad I booked my bounceback for August, but waiting for FD for friends who want to come along. :confused3

Doubtful. Remember this is the same company that just lifted discount blackouts for Easter week........

Iger did say Disney would "scale back" significantly on discounts. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut free dining.

Yes, he did say that but he also said he would start if they were able to. From what I am seeing...it really is not there yet. Yes, they are starting to cut back what is offered...but they are staying with there normal offers they do ever year and scaling down the "mini" offers to get people to book...like the offer right now. I don't see them cutting back on free dining...brings too many people into the parks that might otherwise not come.
Here are some of his words

he expects his company’s theme parks will scale back discounting during the second half of 2010, though he acknowledged that “we don’t know when we will essentially be able to turn it off.”

promotions Disney’s parks are currently offering –are slightly smaller than deals they offered earlier this year, when the global recession was at its worst.

He said, for example, the promotions have attracted new customers who would not otherwise have visited a Disney park

Iger declined to predict when Disney might be able to stop discounting entirely.

So, there you have it...he doesn't know when he will be able to cut back promos...but they have scaled down some of them.
...Talks amongst yourselves...:goodvibes

Maybe that new "mini" deal is a test. And I bet it's not going well. Did any of you book with it?

I think at the time they made that announcement they were optimistic that the economy would bounce back by now.

I'll say it again. They lifted the blackout dates for Easter, one of their busiest weeks of the year. They are NOT going to eliminate their star attraction of a promotion during one of their SLOWEST times of the year!

That is exactly what I was saying...I think too many people are getting nervous from his statement but he said "We don't know WHEN we will be able to turn off the promos"
He was hoping but it is not going that way.

I don't think the waiting has anything to do with the upcoming Harry Potter opening and them worrying about attendance whether high or low. Last year was the first year that the FD code was released in March. The other years it wasn't released until April...with a couple of years going in about a week into the month. I am sure they'll offer some incentive to come during the fall as it's highly unlikely they'd offer incentives during the summer months when they have no problems with guest attendance, but offer nothing during the fall when it's prime hurricane season and kids are back in school. Hopefully it's FD. But since the code was only released in March the one time (last year), they could simply be going back to an April release. Now if MAY rolls around... :scared1: Although the first year it wasn't offered until June. My goodness I don't think I can last that long. :rotfl2:
