Others on Reservations -- Make Changes?

Hi everyone,

Short version: If someone on the reservation with me, but not on the deed/DVC owner, calls in -- can they make any changes to MY plans or reservations? Is DVC allowed to release any information to them -- future plans, cancellation policies, how many points we own, etc.?

Long version: We're travelling with my in-laws and our respective families for the 50th in October. They're last-minute, flaky people, and now have decided they want to either change dates or cancel the entire reservation. My wife and I aren't interested in making any changes -- we're going as scheduled, with the reservations we have, unless Disney shuts down and/or elects to cancel the reservation themselves.

They're calling in to Disney -- not member services, but traditional consumer Disney World planning -- to "get an idea of when things will open back up." They're upset that restaurants aren't back to full capacity, some things are still limited, limited menus are still in effect, dining plans aren't offered, parades aren't happening like they traditionally are, masks are required -- basically upset that the parks aren't exactly as they remember from 2015. We've made it clear that those things are not and will not necessarily come back exactly as they were -- EVER -- but they're insisting on calling in to talk to someone about this, and "find out what their options are."

We're all set to stay together in a two bedroom villa -- same reservation -- which my wife and I will happily still use if they back out. It's our reservation; we booked it as a gift with them included for this trip.

My question is -- they can't possibly cancel or change this reservation through Member Services, right? They have no ownership rights. They're only listed as "guests" on the reservation with us. I'm fine if member services would let them remove themselves -- that doesn't matter to me -- I just want to make sure they don't lose us this reservation, since we'll definitely not be able to book it again at this point.

Thanks!

We're over 30 days from travel -- technically COULD cancel -- but don't want to.

Nope only the owner can make changes or cancel a reservation. People renting points can’t even make room requests without the owner. You have nothing to worry about!

I don’t believe they can change anything at all since they are not on your membership. I don’t even think they can remove themselves; you would have to do it online or call in.

Great! That's exactly what I was looking for. Next question -- how do they verify/authenticate who they're talking to? I wouldn't put it past my father-in-law to pretend to be us. He may know my wife's social... doesn't know mine... but knows phone numbers, addresses, etc. and has the confirmation number. Obviously if they "verify" he's me, I can't blame Disney... but I'm wondering how strong that verification is. We're new resale members as of Sept 2020... I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of calling in to member services yet!

They always ask for your membership number so as long as they don’t have that you should be all set. Yikes having to worry about that from your in-laws though! Sorry for the stress for y’all! Hope your trip is magical :)

Great. I don't see how they'd have that. Thanks!

Yeahhhhh -- we're regretting our offer of all staying in one 2BR villa... we'll be pushing the limits with nine of us... myself, my wife, our two kids (11 and 2), my in-laws, their two adopted kids (16 and 7), and my brother-in-law -- really hoping they cancel!!

Just popping in to say that your in-laws sound insufferable. Stay strong.

You could take them off the reservation if it makes you feel better. You can always add them back closer to the trip.

Unfortunately, we're fast approaching dining reservations, etc. so I don't want to mess with their MDE at all. BUT -- here's hoping they decide to cancel! :)

Not to make you worry, but MS has accessed my account for me without the member number. They use verifying information to access it, last 4 digits of social, address, phone, email.

I would like to think MS would get suspicious when a person stumbles when asked for their membership number. Your situation is why they need to ask for verifying information.

You can add a password on your account. I have one on mine. It’s not a number it’s just a word I chose. No one can access the account without knowing the password. Might give you piece of mind. Good luck!

Couldn't you just change their names a bit? If one is Mike, change the name to Matt. etc.

You can make dining reservation for them even if they aren't on your hotel reservation - assuming you're the holder of the dining reservation.
The situation does not sound pleasant. Good luck!

This one seems pretty easy to get out of. Just keep complaining about all the things that are closed. I mean, why on earth would you even want to go if you can't get a princess makeover at Bippiti Boppiti and go one the Belle story ride? It's the best ride!
