Other resorts than Disney

How hard is it to schedule a vacation other than at WDW? Also what fees are involved in doing so?

depends upon what you are after. the charge is either $75 or $95.

if you are trying for one of the really great places that II has - I would say forget it on the whole.

now the concierge collection is different - MS can guaranteed that one. but it is more expensive pointwise.

the cruises are expensive pointwise too.

What about the people they show skiing on the video? How hard is it to go to say Tahoe and snowboard at someplace?

SpiceyCat, I noticed you are from Birmingham. Have you went to Gatlinburg, Orange Beach, or Destin on points? Where else would you suggest in the Southeast?

Where did you go, how did it go? Were the resorts nice? Was it easy to make the exchange? Would you do it again?

I know everybody says to just rent out the points, but I am curious.

We are taking DSis (last trip to WDW 1973) and her family with us to BWV in April and they love Gatlinburg and Gulf Shores.

IF they fall in love with Disney, they may consider DVC.

Exchanges may be a factor for them, and I'd like to be able to truthfully tell them about the Gatlinburg, Orange Beach, and Destin experience using exchanges, and would kind of like to know myself.

I just got back from using my points in DC. Couldn't have been happier. It only cost me $75 and the amount of points. In DC you stay at the Mandarin Oriental, adn you are giving room options when booking. The better the room the more points. All I have to say is the hotel is amazing. I am planning not only a vacation to WDW but looking at where I am going next outside WDW.
