We are strongly considering purchasing a resale:

Questions:

How hard is it to get reservations at other properties outside the DVC?

How hard is it to get reservations at other properties within DVC that are not our 'home'?

If someone is asking $70/pt, what is a reasonable offer?

Why should I buy directly from DVC (Saratoga Springs)?

You should buy SSR if you are young and will use the 50 years that are included in the contract. If you are older than say, 40, I would give it some thought, but a resale might be a cheaper, and better option.

If someone is offering their points for $70 I would offer less only if I didn't care too much if Disney took it. All resales must be submitted to Disney for approval, and they can grab it out from under you if they want. It's called ROFR, and it's around $70 now. The contract, if stripped of points, is worth much less than if it has banked points, so a stripped contract may get thru for $68, but it depends upon how many times you want to play the game before you actually win a contract. It's too nerve-wracking for me.

I have never had difficulty staying at any of the DVc resorts, except at Christmas(the prime time). Next year at Easter will be horrendous, too. But most other times of the year are fine.

I wouldn't use my points outside DVC, they are worth much less out there. If you want to stay somewhere else, I prefer renting my points at $10 or so, and paying cash, which saves me lots of money. Remember that DVC is most economical if you plan to vacation regularly.

I would buy SSR from Disney if you need financing. It is easy to get with Disney and it won't show up on your credit report as long as you stay current.
