Can anyone recommend a good white noise machine. We have tried the radio static for our 2.5 DD and that did not work. We considered just using a fan, but would prefer not having the air circulating in the room all of the time. Any recommendations, good or bad, would be terrific.

I cannot sleep without white noise! I have a honeywell air purifier in DD6's room that serves two purposes, white noise and cleans the air. I have one in my room as well but I also have an alarm clock from Sharper Image that plays different sounds, white noise being one of them. You can have it on all night or just for an hour. It's pricey, but I've seen other generic models that have the white noise as well.

Hi there!

I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I have to recommend a mechanical white noise machine. I think mine is a MarPac SleepMate - it sounds like a fan, and is only 6 inches in diatmeter and about 4 inches high.

I'm a light sleeper, so I turn it on before I go to bed, and turn it off in the morning. It's the only way I sleep through the night!

We've had them in the family as long as I can remember. My father worked the night shift when I was a kid, and he used it to sleep during the day. Later on, my younger siblings used it to nap while us older kids were stomping around the house. I bought one for college so I could actually get some sleep in the dorms, and I still use it to this day. I even bring it to Disney with me. :)

The best $50 I ever spent!

We have a small air purifier as well. It sits on the dresser and doesnt take up a lot of room. And clean air is always nice too!

My DW and I have a Marpac Marsona 1288, which is a high-end "sound conditioner." It's electronic, so you can easily control the volume. It lets you select a "base sound" (like an ocean sound, or a level white noise sound) and you can overlay other random sounds (like an owls or frogs).

I ordered ours online a few years back, from the "Ear Plug Store," but it's available in a number of sites. If you Google on "Marsona 1288" you should get some good hits.
