I know - how can a person come on the Dis Boards and ask about taking a vacation other than Disney! The shame! :rotfl:

Well, we just got back from a great WDW vacation a few days ago. We are planning to head back in a couple of years, but after 4 WDW vacations in 4 years, my DH is ready for a short break :)

We live in Wisconsin, so I know that by next year this time I will really be craving a warm weather vacation. Easter 2010 is April 10, so we will most likely take our vacation that week. I am looking for a family-friendly beachy area to visit. Definitely want warm weather. I would love to find a resort that has planned kids activities - we have twin DD's - they will be 5 when we travel. But, I'm not opposed to renting a house/condo somewhere.

I'd love to hear any ideas you might have to share!:)

I know it's a super busy time there, but what about Washington DC? There is so much to do there and much of it is free (Smithsonian museums, etc.). You could stay in MD and take the Metro in, then do other day trips to Annapolis, Baltimore (for the Aquarium, etc.). It won't be as warm there as FL of course, but it will be nicer than WI.

You could also head out to CA, like maybe Laguna Beach.

Or are you thinking of flying out of the country?

even Miami can have 50 degree days. If you really want to guarantee warmth then you really need to head to the Carribean or Mexico. I really like the Carribean side of Mexico as the water is so much warmer than the Pacific. So, Cancun, Cozumel, the Riviera Maya. There are tons and tons and tons of family resorts in that area...many all inclusive.

We also have been to many places in the Carribean with our kids. The Cayman Islands were probably our favorite...rented a condo right on the beach...so much fun. The problem with many Carribean destinations is that, depending on the airport you fly out of, you might not get a direct flight. Everyone has their own hassle threshold but for us, with three little kids, not having direct flights is a deal breaker. If it isn't direct, we won't go.

There is also Arizona but you may or may not have warm weather. San Diego is going to be chilly...upper 60s, low 70s....warmer than Wisconsin but not beachy by any stretch. Hawaii is wonderful, if expensive. However, it is a super long flight and might require at least one plane change. Only you know if your kids are up for that. We took ours when they were tiny and easy travelers. We will go back when they are older but now, at ages 5 and 6, they are too restless and active to handle that long of a flight. Meltdown City.

Have fun planning. I am already working on Spring Break 2010 as well and we have not even gone on Spring Break 2009 yet! Right now, I am leaning towards Costa Rica.

I would cruise. Have you ever been? My kids love it. If you go on one of the bigger ships there is so much to do for everyone of all ages. I cruise Royal Caribbean and not Disney, cause I find Disney too expensive. My seven year old thinks that our vacations should have a pattern. Like WDW one year, cruise the next, then WDW, then cruise etc. I talked about breaking the pattern and he said "no, that is the way it goes, Disney, cruise, Disney, cruise, Disney......"

How about Costa Rica? I just got back and had a great time. Great weather, most people spoke english. Kids loved volcanoes, animals especially monkeys, zip lining....and tons of other fun stuff to do for kids and parents.:thumbsup2
I live in New York and am guessing Spring break will be Saturday March 27th through Tuesday April 6th.. just my guess because Passover is Tues March 30th and Easter is Sunday April 4th. I am looking into Hawaii.. trying to find a cheap fare from nyc area and then want to do NCL cruise from Honolulu to see all islands.

I would also suggest a cruise! Look into Royal Caribbean's newer ships...they look AWESOME! I'd suggest a Caribbean Itinerary. This way you can have some "beach" time as well as fun stuff for the kids to do (and, dare I say it...time alone with your DH when your kids are at the kid's club!). :rolleyes1

I am thinking of a Spring Time cruise on RCCL for April/May 2010...if I can convince DH...;)

Our kids will be almost 6 and 4, and the kids programs on Royal Caribbean get the second best accolades after Disney Cruise Line, so that's saying a lot!

Have you considered a Cruise, Rccl is AMAZING, beautiful ships, great stops, LOADS to do onboard and off, private island is amazing!! great site to look around for info is cruisecritic dot com, but be warned you will become addicted :rotfl2:

Try one of the Disney Adventure trips. Then, you get a little bit of Disney fix, but DH gets to go somewhere different. That's what we'll be doing next summer after our 4th annual trip this year.

I say cruise. We have done 11; DD has done 5. Her fave (and ours) is Carnival. best food, great kids club and amazing value for money. Disney was fun but too much $$$, and DD preferred the Carnival club to Disney's activities. Shows are glitzy and entertainment is corny, but we always manage to have a great time!

uummmm.....I think Easter is April 4th, 2010, isn't it?

That's what my calendar says and April 10th is actually a Saturday.

I also vote for a cruise or Cancun. We have done both and enjoyed both immensly.

The thing about cruising is that the kids can go to the kid's club and you and your DH can actually have some alone time to go to dinner and see a show.

We took our teenagers on a cruise 2 years ago and they loved it. We are cruising again in June 2010 on the new RCCL Oasis. It looks to be a fabulous adventure and our first cruise with the kids was on RCCL and they can't say enough. We have also cruised on Norweigen Cruise Lines without the kids and we also enjoyed the freestyle cruising of eating at whatever hour you wished. We of course love to head north during our summers to the dells and all of the waterpark resorts. Our favorite is the Wilderness Resort. Just wanted to give a shout out to your home of WI:banana:

Here's another vote for a cruise. My kids love them. Their favorite lines are Carnival and Royal Carribean. Both have really good kids programs.
