I would address this sooner, rather than later. If you go to school and they have an expectation that you will be using that extra money to take care of them and then you don't, it will be much harder.

It will be hard, but tell them the money is for your won family. Suggest they stop spending so much if they are worried about the future.

No, this is neither normal nor appropriate (as Crisi said, obviously you weren't raised in a culture where this is expected). Your parents should NOT expect you to pay for their own poor planning. I would never let my parents suffer, and in fact we are assisting my MIL financially, but we volunteered to do it - she didn't ask, expect, demand, etc. Tell your mother that you appreciate her support but that she must not expect that you are going to dig them out of this hole.
