OT Water purification/softner system

Anyone purchase a steeltec water purification/softner system? We live in the Chicagoland area and have just horrible water. It smells, and is very hard.

We had someone from Artesian Waters come in tonight and do a whole speal about the steeltec whole house system that is a water purification/softner unit. We were given the price of $3500 installed. I wanted to know if this is reasonable or if we are being scamed. Also if you purchased it are you happy with it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know anything about steeltec but we have a Culligan man coming out this morning to install a water filtration system for the whole house.With both the filtration and sediment removal thing it will also cost over 3000.00. Good luck and maybe someone else will know something.

We were considering a home purification system as well. Artesian waters came to our home and did the tests. We already know that we have very hard water. but
after the test the salesman offers a system that comes with five years worth of soap, shampoo and products for about $5,000. Just wanted to know if you went with artesian and if it was worth the investment. thanks

You may want to go to your local Sears store. My DH works for a company (Ecowater Systems) who makes water softeners and RO's for Home Depot and Sears. To my knowledge you can get one for a heck of a lot less...Chicago is actually one of his districts (he doens't sell them ,he is the account manager/trainer)..I think their highest end is around $800 plus a couple hundred bucks for install. And they are supposed to be better or as good quality as the expensive units.

I just bought one of these steeltec systems here in south Carolina from Environmental Progress Inc out of Lexington. They have an active office, responsive staff, and welcome me to visit if Im near by. Seems legit and fair so far. a+ rating with the BBB. Unit seems to work fine however I am going to speak to them as i got the Econ model, large salt tank, RO system, and UV system, for over $6k. I'd prefer to have the steel electronic model for that kind of money. It came with a decent amount of true concentrate soaps, detergent, ect with option to buy more at a deep discount i I like them. The installer was knowledgeable and frank. He told me the tank would eventually fail as the internal resin/carbon became saturated (even after weekly regeneration). He said he had to replace a couple under the lifetime warranty but they were all over 10 years old. I don't mind paying for a professional type system with quality set up, performance, and support. I don't see wasting $800 at sears on units that seem to add odd flavors to the water that you have to calibrate yourself and that dont include filtering, just softening. My 2 pennies.
