We live in the UK and have just booked a week in New York. Went there about 6 years ago for the weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to visit (we have a 3 year old in tow this time).

As well as the usual sites the little one may like a trip to the big Toys r us in Times Square. It has a big ferris wheel inside the store plus tons of toys.

Love New York.:thumbsup2

Oh I love NY!
When are you going?
Bearing your 3yo in mind I would head for the zoo at central park, the fao schwartz shop on 5th av (near c.park) and treat yourself to a ice cream from the parlour inside the shop.YUM YUM
Depending on your child you could watch a show? Last time I was there they still had beauty and the beast on (something that you can all enjoy)

FAO Schwarz toy store!! It has the big piano from "Big" in it and you can actually go on it.

The Toys R Us on Times Square is awesome too, as someone above mentioned.

I've been to NYC 4 times, although never with kids.

FAO Schwarz is a lovely place to while away a few hours - although it can get very crowded. Arrive just before opening time to see the opening ceremony. The staff then line the red carpet entrance and clap as you go in - makes you feel like a celebrity!!

Tried to go and visit the real Winnie the Pooh at the New York Public Library but it was closed when we went (Oct '08) so check before you go. The Public Library is very grand and worth a wander around anyway. Free entry.

Central Park is just over the road from FAO Shwarz so that would make a nice respite from all the noise and crowds of the street. Try the Zoo there.

I'd be interested to know how you actually get on in Manhattan with a 3 year old. Mine are 8 & 10 and I haven't yet been brave enough to book a NYC trip as I don't think my younger one could handle the pace! Even if we did use the subway a lot! It is the most amazing, exciting and vibrant city you won't want to miss a thing!

the central park zoo.....get there for the sea lion feeding...you'll see lots of new york nannies and mommies there for it too...

The zoo would be perfect for your little one as others have said. We spent a lovely morning there yesterday and it was full of pre schoolers having fun. The toy shops are huge. Maybe an open top bus ride? I am sure you will have a great time here.

Jet Blue to MCO in a few hours for us!
Just time for one last big breakfast.

Thanks for everyone's replies. The web links are great. Counting down now as 5 weeks to go. Now busy figuring out how to get to all of our favorite US shops. I have bus and train timetables coming out of my eyes!!!!

Don't forget the rather large M&M store on Times Square, too!!

DD (16) and I visited New York this April and had an absolutely fab time, can't wait to go back again in a couple of years time to do all the things we didn't get around to doing.

We did one of the boat tours around the Hudson - highlight of the trip for both of us - and there were plenty of younger kiddies on there who also seemed to be really enjoying it. Circle Line - took us all around the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Ground Zero - two hours well worth it.

Have a fantastic time:cool1:
